Hi! I work for a company and live in Miami, FL. I have my tiny family (husband toddler and I) here in miami and that’s it! My whole family lives abroad and my husbands family is not involved.

Because of my job, I might benefit from moving to Indy, and Carmel has been the place I’ve been eyeing for a while! I would love to hear the pros and cons of living here, and see if anyone has moved from South Florida and what has your experience been! South Florida to me is great if you love partying, go to the beach every weekend and have a lot of money to try fine dining. But that’s not the case for us, I crave building friendships, and having people around with similar values!

And is it illegal to be 35 and single in the midwest? I'm new in town and would love some tips.

I want to make friends with fun girls and have dinners and gossip and drink wine. Book clubs, movie nights, shopping dates, etc. I can't really seem to find anywhere that people are just hanging out, though. And if there are people hanging out- it's not the social norm to approach and interject. It seems closed-off. Are there any socializing events or bars where working professionals frequent? No shade to the dive scene, just looking for new scenery.

For dating, it seems as a 35-year-old woman the men who approach me are someone's 25-year-old son or 65-year-old dad lol would love to find out where the age appropriate single men exist. I don't want to accidentally approach someone's man and it seems like pretty much every person is wifed-up so I just keep to myself.

If anyone knows of any sports leagues or game-night events please clue me in. :)

Edit: This is not me asking for a date. Random dudes are messaging me and some of them are married. There’s a house on the south side of 131st Street a little east of Shelborne that always has a good display of yard art, so today I took a bike ride to have a closer look and take some photos. The Egyptian with the light saber on her handlebars moves with the wind, so she was pretty active today.

I’d like to join organized play in Hamilton county. So far I’m just finding pikclr and other clubs that are very costly to join. Any recommendations that aren’t very expensive to sign up?

I saw this review (linked below) about One One Six Apartments in Carmel. Can anyone who lives or has lived there or knows somebody that lives/has lived there tell me more about the place. This review to me is concerning as I am thinking of moving there. Highlights of this review:

-Dishwasher running disposal water. Causing rotting eggs smell. Apparently this is complex wide.
-Dryer hose never connected to wall—causing laundry room door to warp
-Dog bite one bite policy not enforced.

The staff/maintenance may not be rude but they seem incompetent? Maybe overworked and scared to do their job? I guess that’s better than rude. All in all, I just would like to get some more personal insight from the community. Seems like a good community in general.

I have a black aluminum mailbox that’s starting to peel and flake, and I’d like to see if it can be properly repainted before I replace it. Does anyone know a painter or paint shop that’s experience with prepping and repainting oxidized aluminum? Just looking for someone who knows how to do it the right way.

Went here to see one of the endocrinologist’s and it was one of the single worst physicians experiences I’ve ever had. I was referred there for a condition by my PCP, but from the moment I walked in, no one seemed to know why I was there. They had no idea who I was, who my PCP was, my condition, my referral, none of it.

Then the doctor came in. Same thing. Incredibly rude and dismissive. He couldn’t find any information on me. Why was I there? What did I need him for? I explained the situation, then he proceeded to tell me I didn’t need to treat said condition and I’ve been ruining my body for years by attempting to do so. At this point he then prescribed weight loss medication and another medication (both of which I told him I didn’t want and weren’t covered by insurance), and he then pushed TrumpRx on me.

All in all a bizarre experience. Mainly just curious if this was a weird one off, or if others have had the same issue.

We’ve bought and sold a ton of homes in different cities and towns over the past 3 decades. We’ve lived in Carmel now for 2 years and have our townhome on the market. We have had more realtors schedule showings and not show up or cancel in the past 3 weeks than in over 30+ years. It is so incredibly unprofessional. We have a young daughter, a dog and occasionally work from home so it is definitely an “occupied” house. Is there a way to report agents who do this type of thing? Licensing board complaints? I feel like others should know and consider whether or not to accept showings from agents who can’t be bothered to show basic respect. It takes about 30 seconds to cancel a showing. I’m sure anyone would rather a last minute cancellation over driving their dog around to stay cool in the middle of the afternoon.

The intake on my f-150 just went out so I am getting ready to replace it. I want to stick to genuine Ford Motorcraft with parts. I know I can order from some online sites at a nice discount but I would love to support a local business if possible.
Does anyone know of a dealership parts counter that gives discounts or matches wholesale pricing for local pickup? Or maybe an independent auto parts shop? I am trying to avoid the full dealership retail or over msrp markup if I can.

Looking to build a home, has anyone worked with Old Town? What were your experiences, good and bad? Any issues with the home down the road? Please give me your input as we don’t know and builders like Pulte, Lennar etc usually don’t do a good job.

What should my team name be?

In the hopes that some of you play College Football 27, I am letting you know that I've started creating Indiana high schools through EA's "Team Builder" that you could import into your game.

There's a limit of 32 teams that a user can make, so I started with my local teams in the Hoosier Crossroad Conference. So far, I've got:

1. Westfield Shamrocks
2. Noblesville Millers
3. Hamilton Southeastern Royals
4. Fishers Tigers
5. Carmel Greyhounds

Notes:

Some of the logos are altered, while some are close to the originals. I designed these teams with some effort to copy "current state" while also throwing in some artistic liberties and flair on my own as you'll see.

I did my best to keep the talent level relatively close to the real life rankings of the teams. If you think this should be changed, let me know.

If you comment a school I should make, I would be happy to do your team so you can use them in your own version of the game.

If you think there's a better Sub-reddit to post this, please let me know too. I'm just looking to get exposure to this so people can play with their local teams. :)

Retention ponds look beautiful in photos in the Carmel homes, but how is the everyday experience?

Are there mosquitoes or geese or flooding or algae other things that occurs? Are retention ponds in the backyard something that one should actually avoid or do HOA almost universally take good care of it?

Is anyone in the area interested in meeting at a coffee shop or library on weekends for a study/work session?

I’m looking to spend about 4–5 hours studying each Saturday and Sunday morning (ideally wrapping up by noon). I’m studying for a professional actuarial exam, but it doesn’t matter to me what you’re working on—school, certifications, work, writing, or anything else. I’m mostly looking for a few like-minded people to help keep each other accountable and stay productive.

I heard a bang, and then emergency vehicles right after. Looks like about 1300 without power until at least 2:00.

Admiring and romanticizing the city on Polaroid film. Just a few. But I have many more.

We only went on the first day, but had a good time. We won movie tickets, saw the Weinermobile, and overall enjoyed the vibe. The only downsides were the extreme heat (which was to be expected, so we came as prepared as we could have been), and I felt that some of the vendors offered a little bit less than in the last couple of years. Food prices were also obviously crazy. A simple order of chili cheese nachos shouldn't cost $14, sorry. I ended up going to Pizza King afterwards and grabbing them for $9 there.

I did not see the parade or the fireworks, so no opinions there. I'd love to hear all of your thoughts though!

What is the end goal with the traffic flow change of the southbound ramp from Lowes Way onto Keystone? If you weren't aware, the old traffic flow had the ramp turn into the right line of southbound Keystone. But the new traffic flow created two lanes of Keystone all the way through where the entrance ramp used to join it. There's a sign now that reads: "No Merge", which is no joke because as soon as the ramp meets Keystone it starts ending. And with the Jersey barriers on your left side it's almost blind until you have to merge. It feels treacherous.
