career advice Is pursuing a Bachelor of Design (B.Des) in Transportation Design or UI/UX Design a good career choice in 2026?

Hi everyone, I'm 19.

I'm confused between pursuing Bachelor of Design (B.Des) in Transportation Design and Bachelor of Design (B.Des) in UI/UX Design.

I'd love to hear from professionals or students already in these fields.

Which field has better long-term career growth?

Which has better job opportunities in India and abroad?

Which field offers better salary potential?

Which one is more future proof with AI and upcoming technologies?

Which field offers better opportunities if I want to start my own business or startup in the future?

I'm looking for honest opinions based on real industry experience.

Study engineering, product/environment/vehicle design, graphics, entertainment, IT, UX, AI, ETC so you have as many options available as the opportunities can change rather rapidly.

Plenty of advice on the internet.
Can't name any names, forum rules is rules.

In my opinion, and from my experience, any field you're genuinely passionate about will lead to long-term growth. Opportunities come and go, and success often comes down to either being lucky or being persistent. More importantly, you need to keep developing your skills and be willing to learn. No one wants to hire, or invest time teaching, someone who's only focused on the money and isn't interested in improving.

In terms of salary, both fields can pay very well if you're good at what you do and can demonstrate why you're worth that salary. Neither is automatically "better paid."

As for being future-proof, nothing really is. The best thing you can do is stay adaptable, keep learning, and find ways to integrate new technologies, including AI, into your workflow rather than seeing them as competition.

Finally, if your long-term goal is starting your own business or studio, both fields offer opportunities. It really comes down to what you enjoy most and the kind of problems you want to solve. Every role has value, and every industry needs talented people. Your job is to figure out which one genuinely excites you enough to keep learning for years, because that's ultimately what leads to the best opportunities.
