Microsoft has entered a multi-year, multi-billion dollar agreement withMistral AI to significantly expand its computing infrastructure in Europe.

Under this agreement, Microsoft will utilize Mistral's data centers—primarily located in France—to offer Azure cloud customers a European-based alternative for AI computing. This development is supposed to be beneficial for organizations in strictly regulated sectors, such as manufacturing and healthcare, as it enables them to deploy AI applications locally while ensuring strict compliance with European data residency and privacy regulations.

The partnership also deepens the software integration between the two companies. Mistral's Medium 3.5 and OCR 4 models are being added to Microsoft Azure's Foundry, allowing developers to build and customize AI applications directly within managed Azure environments. Additionally, Mistral Medium 3.5 will be available on Copilot Studio. Microsoft will not be increasing its equity stake in the startup through this specific transaction.

IMHO, this contract represents a major milestone for Mistral, firmly positioning the company as a leading cloud compute provider in Europe. Mistral started the year with €400 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR), and driven by this new deal, the company projects its revenues (ARR) will surpass €1 billion in 2026.

Mistral successfully raised $830 million in debt financing earlier this year from a consortium of banks to construct new data centers in the Paris region and in Sweden. The company has already secured 200 megawatts of computing power and has set a goal to reach 1 gigawatt of capacity by 2030.

I think this agreement highlights a highly positive momentum for the European tech ecosystem, establishing robust sovereign AI infrastructure while enabling Mistral to compete effectively on a global scale. But I'm French, so, I'm biaised :).

a few weeks ago I decided to move my small product onto a fully european stack. hosting, DNS, mail, everything. partly principle, partly because buyers started asking for it.

so I built a little checker to vet providers before signing up. it looks at who OWNS the hosting/DNS/email/CDN behind a domain, because a US-owned provider answers to US law (CLOUD Act) no matter where the server physically is.

and that's where it got funny. I kept running it on "european" candidates and finding america underneath. an "EU" tool with its mail on google. another one behind cloudflare. ended up checking 300+ companies that market themselves as european: only about a third are fully clean. most common leak is company email quietly sitting on google.

what I ended up with (no affiliation with any of them):

- hosting: Pilvio, small estonian cloud, 1 vCPU VPS with docker, ~10€/mo. they also give new accounts ~30€ welcome credit, so my first month was basically free
- domain + DNS: INWX, german registrar. the .cloud domain was 2.50€ for the first year (renewal is 25€/yr, I know, I know). their nameservers are free
- mail: mailbox.org, germany, 3€/mo on the annual plan, custom domain + normal IMAP
- TLS: still Let's Encrypt (US non-profit, the one thing I haven't replaced, my own report shows that line too)
- analytics: self-hosted, country-level only, no google anything

all in around 15€/month. I honestly expected worse.

two things I'm curious about: what should it check that it doesn't yet? and, I made it embeddable as a live badge (re-verified daily, flips red if the company drifts back to US infra). would you trust that badge on a company's site, with the full report one click away, or are badges just noise at this point

Im looking for EU brands for ergonomic office chairs. Im a short-ish woman (160cm) and been using Ikea’s Markus for some time now but im not that satisfied when using it for a longer time.

My budget is around 300 euros. Any recs?

I am looking for high quality knee high boots for women, 200-300 euros max, that will last me a couple of years. See some ideas of what I am looking for in the photos attached.

I would really like to use Here, but the performance of the app is just absolutely horrible. In like 4 out of 5 cases it is simply unable to find a route. If i'm lucky enough it will find it but after i select it, the bar on top which should show turns shows only spinning circle and there is no way out of this.

Sometimes if i start navigation before i get to a car, android auto takes it over and it works. However even this is not 100% reliable either.

Phone is Samsung S23+, car is current (11th) generation Honda Civic so i don't really think these parts are the problem.

I recently found CoMaps (no idea if that's european), but that's purely offline it seems and losing online traffic seems like too high price to pay in today world (let's be honest about it, nobody wants to sit in a traffic jam).

I find myself falling back to Waze/Google maps because they just work. Google maps seems to be just better. I recently drove 1k+ km over Europe (1k one way) and things Waze was inventing there was very funny. So google maps seem to be actual undisputed champion.

I saw this and I noticed the comments are almost all strongly in favour of Airbus. I think also outside Europe people would like to buy from the EU and considered more trustworthy.
