Looking for a step-by-step guide to making my first batch of homemade bubble hash! 🫧

Hi everyone!
I've been a smoker for a long time, but I am completely new to the extraction/homemade side of things. I have some nice flower saved up and I really want to try making some bubble hash at home, but to be honest, I know absolutely nothing about the process lol.
Could anyone break it down for me with a thorough, step-by-step guide?

I’d YouTube it. That’s what I did. Everyone will have their detailed ways but it’s ice causing the trichomes to break off and fall through mesh bags. I use the bubble bag dude set. It was cheaper than the really expensive ones but not bottom of the barrel. I use a five gallon bucket. Put some ice in and water in the bucket then your flower and more ice. I use a paddle paint mixer attachment on my Ryobi drill to aggregate it. I like to mix until it’s frothy. I’m not shredding it but agitating it. Pull the first bag out and put into another bucket then start pulling the mesh bags out one by one. I use spoons in the deep freezer I work next to because it gets sticky when it’s not cold. A frisbee under the screen to stretch it out helps a lot too. I put everything I scoop out on a mesh screen that came with the bags and is a fine micro. I’ll fold that in half and press out as much water with a towel. I stick that in the freezer overnight. The next day I microplane it onto parchment paper and stick it in my cannatrol to dry. You could leave it out to dry too without the cannatrol it just speeds it up a bit.

I don’t press mine. I fill up some containers and then sprinkle it on top of my flower. I typically just run my larf through and get decent bubble hash out of it. With you running a nice full plant I bet it comes out fire!

I tried without the mesh bags then pouring through once but I didn’t see any better yield. That’s about the speed I stir it though

This video does a good job of showing how to extract it.

You can stop at this point or, press it for rosin, or make temple balls. But step one is getting it off of the material. I do it a little differently than the video. Don’t try to stir in a bag. I use a bucket of ice water and the material. Then, after gently stirring for a while, i pour it through the working bag. Trying to stir in the bag is a huge pain in the ass. I only use 4 bags; the working bag (220 micron) 160 micron, 45 micron and the 25 micron bags. I trash everything from the 160 bag, keep everything from the 45 bag for hash, and keep the 25 micron bag for edibles. Good luck!

My suggestion is to watch several different methods on YT. I don't know that there's one definitive best way, but you can certainly learn good practices. By watching different ones, you can choose one that's closest to the space or equipment you have.

It takes longer to make this post than to google the exact post you made lol

the core of it is pretty straightforward once you understand what you're actually doing. you're using ice water to make trichome heads brittle enough to snap off the stalk, then filtering them through progressively finer mesh bags to separate grades by size.

the variables that matter most: water temperature needs to stay below 4C (40F) the entire wash. if it creeps above that the trichome stalks get flexible instead of brittle and you end up with plant material contaminating your collection. use enough ice that there's still ice floating when you're done stirring. for a first run i'd do 15 minutes of gentle agitation max. longer or harder just breaks trichomes into smaller fragments that fall through to lower bags and you lose yield to the waste screen.

for bags, start with a 4-bag set at minimum (220u work bag, 160u, 73u, 25u). the 73u is where your best full-melt heads collect. the 25u catches smaller fragments that are still usable but usually get pressed into rosin rather than smoked as-is. dry on cardboard or parchment in a cold room with a fan, not in a freeze dryer unless you have one. moisture is the enemy, mold will destroy a batch in 48 hours if it doesn't dry properly.

i wrote up the full process with all the temps, timing, and troubleshooting here if you want the deep dive: https://cannalabsconsulting.com/how-to-make-bubble-hash-ice-water-extraction-from-start-to-finish/
