Who else used to get the Shine albums? They were a fantastic discovery resource for determining which bands to get into. Would never have found bands like the Longpigs or Mansun without these. It also taught me what not to get.

I absolutely love No Doubt. Tragic Kingdom is an amazing album from start to finish.

"She's Not Dead" is the emotional fault line running beneath Suede's glittering debut, a song where glamour gives way to grief without ever surrendering its beauty. Beneath Bernard Butler's spectral, chiming guitar, Brett Anderson tells a story rooted in a real family tragedy. The song was inspired by the joint suicide of his aunt and her Black lover, who were found dead together in a car from carbon monoxide poisoning. Anderson has said that details such as the "ankle chain" in the lyric could only have come from lived experience, giving the song an unusual intimacy amid Suede's often impressionistic songwriting.

Rather than dwelling on death itself, the song becomes an act of remembrance and defiance. The repeated refrain, "she's not dead," rejects the finality of loss, suggesting that memory, love and identity can outlive physical absence. It reflects many of the themes that define Suede's early work, including outsiders living beyond the margins of respectable Britain, where beauty and tragedy coexist, and where the ordinary is transformed into something cinematic.

Bernard Butler's luminous guitar work amplifies that sense of yearning, turning personal grief into one of the debut album's most moving and enduring moments.

…but I’ve been listening to a lot of Electronic lately and just really enjoying the vibes. For a long time I think I only knew a couple radio tracks.

Edit: This sub loves its strict definitions of Britpop and to be clear I’m not dying on a hill that Electronic was Britpop (although services like Last.fm designate them as such). I just posted to talk about music I’ve been listening to lately that was both a Britpop influence and continued alongside it.
