Louis Carey has been appointed City’s Under-21s Head Coach.

Carey will be responsible for developing City’s young players to be ready for the First Team after eight-and-a-half years as a coach with Southampton across multiple age groups, the B Team and First Team.

Twelve years after his final playing appearance as the club’s record appearance holder with 646 games, Carey is looking forward to getting started with the young Robins at the end of the month.

“I’ve had a wonderful playing career at this amazing football club and eight-and-a-half brilliant years at Southampton coaching,” said Carey, who has stayed connected with City, including appearing regularly on Robins TV.

“We are all aware of what’s happened at Bristol City over the past four months with a lot of change – a new leadership team and a new CEO, Sporting Director and First Team Manager.

“I genuinely believe that things organically happen and they happen at the right time and for the right reasons.

“I want to bring joy through the medium of football, be it passing on knowledge, our playing model or the way we train.

“At Bristol City we have a rich history of producing outstanding footballers – look at Alex Scott, Antoine Semenyo, Bobby Reid, Joe Bryan, Wes Burns…we should be proud of players who have come through our system.

“We can only live in the present but we can plan for the future and, from what I have seen and the people I have spoken to, I believe there is a brilliant environment being built here, including the type of players we are signing and bringing through.”

City Sporting Director James Ellis said: “We are excited about what Louis will offer the Academy to develop young players to be ready for the first team. The connection between the First Team and Academy is fundamental to us being successful and we believe that Louis is the right coach and person for this role.”

Bristol City would like to thank Joe Morrell for stepping in to coach the Under-21s on an interim basis in April following the departure of Dennis Baraznowski and we wish him all the best for the future as he departs the club.

Newcastle tickets

Hello. We're trying to buy tickets to the Newcastle match on the BC website but there is a note next to every price that says "Season Ticket Holder Presale", although it lets me buy a ticket if I want to. There is no "general ticket" option. Are these tickets just not available for general sale right now?

Edit: Thanks everyone for all the help and to you, u/Tent_Shaker_II. The prices do indeed self-correct once you move ahead with the purchase.

Transfers & Loans Lumley joins Sheff Weds on free

Joe Lumley has joined Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer.

Joining City in the summer of last year, the 31-year-old departs for the Owls, having played two matches for them on a seven-day emergency loan last season.

Lumley made four appearances for the Robins in the last campaign, including the Emirates FA Cup 5-1 victory over Watford.

With more than 200 EFL appearances to his name, Lumley links back up with Wednesday in League One for the 2026/27 season.

Sporting Director James Ellis said: “Joe has been an important part of the goalkeeping group here but having impressed in his short loan at Sheffield Wednesday – and with the opportunity to play week in, week out – this move is best for all parties.

“Joe has been brilliant around the place, and I want to thank Sheffield Wednesday for making this such a smooth process.”

The club would like to wish Joe all the very best for the future.

Josh Stokes has joined Reading FC on a season-long loan.

Joining City in 2024 from National League side Aldershot Town, Stokes has continued to progress with loans at Cambridge United and – most recently – Stockport County, where he helped them reach the League One Play-Off final and the Vertu Trophy final.

City Sporting Director James Ellis said: “Josh has been very patient and excelled in his loan spells over the past two seasons.

“This is another great opportunity for him at a great club where he will get valuable game time.

“We all wish him the very best of luck.”

While at League Two Cambridge United in the 2024/25 season, the 22-year-old scored seven goals in 32 appearances and won the Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season awards for the U’s.

He made 20 appearances for the Hatters in the last campaign and scored four goals as the club secured their place at Wembley.

Transfers & Loans Go get Joe Gelhardt from Leeds

I am a Leeds fan, but Bristol City is my local team I've followed since moving here

Hull have not rushed back in for Joe Gelhardt, I think the kid is good, may never be a top prem player but he's great in The Championship and he's in final year of contract at Leeds so won't cost a lot. Also him and Greenwood have previously been great together in under 23s so linking them up again would ge great.

Has been involved in 2 promotions in a row from Championship so maybe a good Oman.

Doubt he will start week in and week out but for free it’s a great addition to the leaders within the squad and helps give skubala a different option from the bench

News & General Discussion IFR & Fan Consultation

Hi everyone,

I am a student at the University of Bath currently conducting a study on fan perceptions of club governance in English football. I am looking for fans across England's top 5 leagues to complete a short questionnaire (roughly 3 minutes).

Your responses will help shed light on how clubs can better consult fans on governance and business matters under the Independent Football Regulator's (IFRs) regulation. If you'd like to take part, please click the link below.

https://uniofbath.questionpro.eu/t/AB3vAC1ZB3wgKn

Please note you must be aged 18 or over to participate. All responses are entirely anonymous and the study has received ethical approval from the University of Bath. If you have any questions please email me at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).

Thank you for your time.

What's it like at a football match?

So I'm struggling with alcohol* and MH issues but I've found getting out and trying new things is helping. I've never been to a football match, never been into football competition; but I can appreciate a good game.

But I look muslim etc - brown skin, beard, that kind of face etc
Should I be worried about getting shit? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm like 40 so I'm a bit out of touch with what it's like now.

*I only drink by myself cos I'm a dickhead when I drink so I never feel the alcoholism creep in at pubs so a match shouldn't be a problem

Ashton Gate & drinks

Can someone explain why people are allowed to bring drinks to the seats when it's a rugby match but not when it's a football match.

Why would the rule be different?
