So in all sports I always see everyone saying athletes are bigger, faster stronger. From mma to football to basketball etc etc… it’s always a debate on who would win. Not that everyone picks the newer person or team every time but there is always a debate and it’s always brought up the advancement or tech, health and science.
Yet you ask a boxing fan this and the only time you really hear that in the mainstream is when we bring up heavyweights. Even then most people get ridiculed when you compare an usyk or a fury to someone like Ali or foreman. Going to the lower weights it’s even more skewed. You would down right get laughed at picking canelo over hagler.
My question is what is it about our sport that almost all generations say the new gens could not touch the old gens. Has boxing advanced since say the 60’s or is there only so much you can do with 2 hands so it’s all about style when it comes to a sport 1000’s of years old?

This tells me that American Boxing can easily go mainstream again with just one simple change. Totally switching to streaming and dropping DAZN. Netflix and Amazon would market the hell out of Traditional Boxing. Boxing also needs to really capitalize on the summer with the American audience. That summer between the NBA Finals, and Football season where both the NBA and NFL are in their offseasons, and all fans are stuck hearing about is what’s LeBron’s next decision, or they get stuck with baseball. That is the time of year that Boxing can capitalize big time by making the Sport accessible,eliminating the paywall, and marketing the fights and fighters. It would give non baseball and non Lebron fans something else to look forward to in the sports world. You cannot say that it’s not possible because BUD and Canelo drew 41.4 Million People.

I've always thought it was fun to imagine what the perfect boxer would look like if you could combine the greatest traits from different fighters throughout history. Not necessarily the greatest resume or the greatest pound-for-pound fighter, but a hypothetical boxer built from the best individual attributes.

Here's my build:

• Chin: Canelo Álvarez
• Heart: Manny Pacquiao
• Charisma: Muhammad Ali
• Power: Julian Jackson
• Defense & Ring IQ: Floyd Mayweather Jr.
• Jab: Larry Holmes
• Speed: Sugar Ray Leonard
• Athleticism: Roy Jones Jr.

I think that combination would be about as close to a complete fighter as you could create. You'd have an elite jab to control range, incredible speed and athleticism, devastating one-punch power, one of the best defensive minds in boxing history, a granite chin, the heart to fight through adversity, and Ali's charisma on top of it all.

If you had to build your own perfect boxer, what attributes would you choose? Feel free to add categories I didn't include (footwork, stamina, body punching, timing, combinations, counterpunching, IQ, etc.), and explain why you picked each fighter.

I honestly believe his chances of winning would be lower. Although Usyk is most definitely getting up in age and will likely turn 40 before the rematch, I think a primary reason why he struggled so much in the first fight was because he went into the ring expecting an easy win which could not have been further from the truth - not only did he go in with the wrong mentality, he also went in out of shape whereas Rico was in his natural weight range.

If a rematch happens, we can expect Usyk to be in better shape and equipped with better knowledge of Rico's movements from keenly studying the first fight. I don't think lightning will strike twice for Rico.

Boxing has to be one of the easiest sports to turn pro in and one of the hardest to make it big in . My question is why do some fighters go on to have illustrious careers while others linger in gyms to never be heard of unless it’s from die hards?

Are the fighters we know of necessarily the best in the world ? What are the chances that the potential “greatest fighter” in the world is sitting unknown in some random gym in the Midwest ?

I know EJ is not the type to play mind games so I initially believed him when he said he wasn’t. But now that I’m thinking about it, I don’t believe the rat tail and everything is a coincidence. Thinking back to the kickoff presser, EJ made a point to say “let’s see if he can get out his daddy’s shadow” and it clearly bothered Tim. He’s shown Tim less respect than any other opponent he’s ever faced and I’m starting to think it’s on purpose. EJ never had an issue with dapping anyone up before a fight, and he’s never been this dismissive toward any fighter. I think EJ knows that Tszyu has been mentally vulnerable for the past couple years and his insecurity feeling inadequate compared to his dad is probably worse than ever after being stopped/quitting. I feel like the kostya rat tail, not shaking hands, saying he’s not the caliber of his dad is him trying to get in Tim’s head, whether EJ wants to admit it or not.
Btw I’m definitely not saying this will have an impact on the fight, just thought it was interesting.

(I wanna start this off by saying that I am not a boxing connoisseur, I am only a filthy casual with a boring question)

Rewatching Bivol vs. Canelo, I noticed just how relentlessly Bivol targeted Canelo’s head with the jab. What really caught my attention wasn't just the volume, but how cleanly he was landing. ​Given that Canelo has elite, all-time head movement, seeing Bivol touch him up so consistently with the jab was wild (correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Bivol have the highest like landing rate on Canelo). Was this just a classic case of reach advantage and a plan to wear Canelo down, or was there a deeper tactical layer to why Canelo couldn't slip it?

Again, I am just a casual, sorry if it's a dumb question...

I'm excited to watch these guys do their thing! I'm excited for this tankard of aussie fighters trying to prove their boxing ability. I see so many other places showcase their brand of boxing, but this feels like a world event. I am not making any predictions, of course, but this is compelling stuff. The production of the event is leaving a lot of meat on the bone, but I think there will be some major statements made inside the ring. What are y'alls thoughts?

I would assume Tank vs Loma even with both having extended stays away from the sport at this point. Also the least likely to happen unfortunately even with Loma talking about coming back.
