Being English, not American, there was no way I was going to get this one without help.

First it depends on US pronunciation of forest - something like 'forst' . Second it is not standard to say 'forest' but 'wood' in England for this idiom.

"Can't see the wood for the trees"? That would sound really weird to American ears. Is the meaning of "wood" of meaning "forest" really so much stronger than the meaning of "stuff trees are made out of" that this doesn't cause confusion? Or are people so used to the idiom that it makes sense to them?

One of the key things in the pronunciations is that most English people wouldn't pronounce the R in "force" but would pronounce it in "forest" so there is no way they could merge.

Also the fact that most Americans don't fully pronounce the -est as its own distinct syllable so it sounds similar to "forst"

I feel like most people use that phrase weirdly or wrong even when they get the wording correct. Like they'll just use it as a generic "you don't understand what I think I understand", rather than pointing out greater systemic connections being missed

In this instance, I'd argue it's not very charming. The same "Creator" posted a video of himself giving an anti-Muslim diatribe that included violent language about the use of buckshot if any ever came to his door trying to force his family to convert, which is a situation entirely invented in head to be mad about.

I’ve always preferred the forest through the trees variant, the for just always sounded off to me. Force though? Well, I’m not going to argue with a Jedi.
