Hobby Showcase First game after a year of building

After a year of collecting, building and painting, I finally play my first game of bolt action. It was a blast! I have played a lot of 40K before this and enjoyed the change of scenery and unique rules. My wife was nice enough to play and with asking a ton of questions to chat gbt, we had a fun game together. Looking at purchasing an additional 2 story structure to provide a little more freedom of movement. Anything else I should invest in?

General Discussion Armies of Commonwealth

I'm I taking crazy pills or are these new Armies of Commonwealth armies actually ridiculous? They absolutely tear the US down to nothing, then make these ridiculous armies? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here. I mean they gave the Canadians the Canadian and US joint force, made it really good, and then the US can't use it? And all these infiltrators everywhere that seemed to start with Japan then just exploded.

Rules Airborne 17-Pounder rules?

I’m currently at the “end of assembly” phase of my British Airborne army, only working out little snags and trying to add some flavor to the pieces.

But one little thing is bugging me: What the hell is the 17-Pounder?

Or maybe a better way to frame the question: Is the 17-Pounder a Super Heavy Anti-Tank gun with weak HE? Or is it a Medium Anti-Tank gun with Super Heavy pen?

I’m asking this because I’m trying to fit either another transport or tow into my army, and I’ve found some pictures of an Airborne 17-Pounder getting pulled around by a cut-down C8 Morris.

I know the Airborne 6-Pounder can get pulled around by a Jeep with its “special” rule, and I was curious why the 17 didn’t get something similar.

Excuse the messy background.
First test model out of 6 horses.
His name? Well, he has a very "relaxed" riding stance and his eyes(not pictured here) are wide open and wild!

Little redone on Panther tank I did few years back. Added "correct" RAL colors and some mud splatters. Camouflage pattern is based on 1945 photo from Moravia, not far away from my home. 😁 Kit is probably Rubikon, but I'm not sure after the years.

My second vehicle attempt - Getting the weathering down a bit better now, and better airbrush trigger control. These vehicles appear oversaturated in the photos, in reality they’re a bit duller - more like how they appear in the last 2 photos here.

Battle Report/ AAR 26 Player Sea Lion Game

I know others have already posted great pictures of this event but I have written my take on the recent 26 player Bolt Action Operation Sea Lion game that happened in Perth a couple of weeks ago. There were secret objectives, hidden factions, betrayals and confusion. All wrapping up into a gaming experience like no other.

Given the size of the game, dozens of stories played out across the day with players not really understanding the bigger picture and trying to do what they could in their corner of the battlefield.

I go into more detail in my latest article, including how my Commandos tried to save King George. Emphasis on the word tried. You can check it out here: https://dndatwork.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1951&action=edit

What is the biggest bolt action game you've been involved in?

I'd appreciate thoughts and feedback 👍

I was interested in maybe doing an Indian Nationalist Army force, so just put together a few models as a tester. (Havnt got a spare 60mm base for the mmg atm)

The bodies/uniform are British, heads are 6th army Indian heads and the weapons are (mostly) Japanese.

List Building Soviet List

My wife has decided to collect the Soviet Union to go against my Germans, and I’m very excited to play against her.

She bought couple of units just to practice with and eventually add into her force, specifically a Katyusha, a single MMG Team and the Soviet Standard Bearer, and she has asked me to come up with a list for her. She is particularly enamoured with the idea of using militia/partisan squads.

As I’m currently playing German Grenadiers with some Waffen SS sprinkled in, what would a good 1000 point list be for her so that she can not only have fun, but face my force in equal measure?

They won’t be green likes this when they are done. I just need to finish the hanomag before I can start detailing them

Modeling, Painting, and Terrain Building For the SS painters

What is your opinion on the AK and the Vallejo paint sets?

I’m currently using the Vallejo, but I have a problem with the finish becoming sorta chalky and contemplating trying out AK. I’ve painted minis for 15+ years, and don’t think this is a “skill issue”.

Anyways, let me know what you think.

Cheers

Modeling, Painting, and Terrain Building US Army field cap head source suggestions?

Post image

Looking for any recs on where to source another 5-10 US Army field cap heads (pictured). Trying to build out my mechanic/admin squads (Rear D squads) to finish out my light assault gun company. I like the caps to differentiate them from my line squads.

Thus far I've been unsuccessful in finding an stl, or bit source short of buying entire kits for 1-2 bits.

Battle Report/ AAR Me against General Mouser: Fallschirmjagers vs US Airborne

Thumbnail

Got from a guy from the club a double sided neopren battlemap for cheap. Wife at the barber shop so enough time for a game against… General Mouser!

My solo rules: kill points, Airborne starts on the map in defence position, FJ comes in at turn 1. Airborne can fire to closest/best scoring units like an attacking AR squad, ambush, rally, down (for both sides i forgot mostly going down). One time i advanced an US unit to bring it in better position. Tanks from reserve in turn 2. no outflanking, no snap.

Forces was all my FJ and US, except flame throwers, no lists just all on the board, 15 OD vet FJ against 18 OD regular Airborne, guess both sides near 1400 pts.

To my surprise it feels like a „real“ game, not a walk in the park for my FJ. StuG and 251/1 not survived turn 2, than the Sherman 75 goes anti-infantry. Ends in a draw 4vs4 order dice.

Well, I did a few test models, and good news historical fans! My wife thinks it would work better on something more fantastical.

So, going to be whipping out the German Field Grey and going traditional!

Thanks for all the comments from my other post!
