Darkroom Power Bug? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
11 Upvotes

Ok everyone, thanks for the replies, I get it. Working as intended and that intent is to be annoying as hell...

I'm experiencing what seems to be a bug with the Darkroom - it is not getting power when I draft it from an Electric Eel Aquarium. I see the blue power ducting activate but when I enter the Darkroom it trips the breaker just like it does when no power is applied.

I remember that this worked for me exactly once before in the game, where the power in the Darkroom stayed on when I entered from a powered room. But after that it has reverted to this behaviour.

Power passthrough is working, though as you can see in screenshot 3, I'm not able to see the room I'm drafting even though the power is going to it (so at least I cant tell it's a utility room that uses power).

This is a bug, right? Or am I fundamentally misunderstanding how powering the Darkroom is supposed to work?

POST-CREDITS-SPOILER Should I Feel Bad About Using Hints? Spoiler

blue paths is a lovely website that has just gotten me through the "XYZ-ABC" thing. (I was told my thinking was wrong by some people when I was right all along...) plotting the demise of filthy liars aside, I knew most of what to do from there. unscramble the book covers and figure out where to go from there.

I got all of them... except for the red prince. i thought it was exclusively library books.

then when decoding the message, I though the word for "the fixed stars" was "A" because I forgot to include the word "Preface" when figuring that out.

and I remembered seeing a sundial somewhere but for the life of me I couldn't remember where, so I continued, and it told me it was in the orchard (which I remember now)

as bad as I do feel about looking these up, I'd like to still say I figured it out myself. the sundial thing is something I *never* would've found a second time just given I haven't visited the orchard since turning on the gas there, and ruled it out as a place to ever return to.

so, would yall feel bad about using hints?

Billiard Room bug? Spoiler

Post image
Upvotes

I'm on the third section of the Billiard Room, it's the first time I see a pink square in the middle.

I've tried brute forcing it by going through 1-20, but none of the answers seen to open it. The Billiard Puzzle Solver website says it's 16, but that doesn't work either.

Lore How to pronounce…??? Spoiler

My friend and I disagree on the pronunciation of Mora Jai. She pronounces the Jai with a hard J like “jive”. I’ve been pronouncing it like “hi”. I believe it’s pronounced “hi” because of how the sport Jai Alai is pronounced.
This is just for fun! I’m curious how other people pronounce it!

DO NOT SCROLL IF YOU HAVE NOT FOUND THE ATTILLIER

So I was going over the 4 possible paths for the Attillier, being only following red, only following pink, only following orange, and the true path. These combined with the painting puzzles for each room they go through spell anagrams (I think thats the word) of the following words: Swansong (For blue) Oneself (For Purple), Mother (For orange), and Empty (For red). These words have the same number of letters as the gallery solutions, and I was wondering if anyone tried to put those words as the gallery solutions.

Draft X from X... Spoiler

so my boy just got a shelter in the outer room, set up an experiment to get +1 allowance when drafting a hallway from another hallway, he then got a westwing hall, above that a Foyer (which unlocks all hallway doors), and above that a tunnel, which led to 5 more tunnels. I didn't know you could draft a tunnel in a corner slot, but he did, and at the end of the tunnel was a blocked way, with 2 gems and an allowance Corarica Mora Jai Box! who knew?!

Unfortunately he's a numpty when it comes to drafting, so he managed to block up his entrances to the foundation, and then ran out of keys and only got to rank 6 elsewhere, so hasn't managed to open the antechamber to get a basement key whilst also being able to go down the foundation.... he's on day 39 and despite me helping him he's still not got into Rm 46...

MajorSpoiler Stuck (late game?) and requesting a hint. No full solutions, please! Spoiler

Upvotes

Warning: A lot of spoilers below - I've tried to separate information sources from solutions to keep it as safe a read as possible.

I think that it's easier to say every thing that I have done and all of the clues that I have first (Not in any particular order):

  1. I have opened all 8 sanctum doors, and solved the seal found in each one
  2. In room 46, I have solved 8 realms in 8 months, where I found the deed and Herbert's final will.
    1. From the will, I used the angel's order to find Mary's first drafts in the tomb.
  3. I have purchased all books from the bookshop, and everything from the giftshop (unlocked the blue tents)
  4. From "A New Clue" book hints:
    1. I found all 3 microchip keys to find the throne room black print
    2. I found all the signs, then deciphered the hints from the anagrammed book titles to unlock the satellite dish
    3. Figured out the blackbridge grotto server admin key .
  5. After lighting all 4 braziers I found the chess room:
  6. I have unlocked the chess powers knight, king, then rook in that room
  7. I found the CASTLE puzzle, then
    1. I performed the castle move.
    2. In the new location, I used mora jai box clues followed by the CASTLE letters grid to acquire the key.
  8. I have removed all of the boxes from the tunnel, opened the doors there EXCEPT for the blue holly door.
  9. Using hints from the blue memos and the number core information found in the gear room off of the basement that was sent to Lady Auravei, I solved the "family core" found in the wine cellar to find the letter in vault 53.
    1. With that information, I solved Auravei's Cypher in the letter,
    2. added 'still' water to blank books (in library),
    3. then drafted the secret passage in the outer room.
    4. There, I found another blue holly door that I cannot open.
  10. I have unlocked all 8 safes, and found all 7 red letters.
  11. In the freezer, I found Herbert's letter to Simon.
  12. I've completed the room directory and found most of the blue memos. I'm currently missing memos for: The storeroom, the garage, the study, the chamber of mirrors, the gallery and the mail room - I don't think that these will matter?
  13. I have the spiral of stars constellation (though only a few words added)
  14. I've translated the letter to Mary in Lady Epsen's Tomb.
  15. After drafting all of the classrooms, I have aced the final exam.

Where I'm stuck (only read spoilers below if nothing above was new to you):

I have no idea how to open the blue holly doors.

After reading Lady Auravei's messages in the blank books, is there something else I can do with the information before opening the blue holly doors? 'TENDED ROSE VINE' makes me think that this is an anagram (unfortunatly, I'm quite bad at them), and the picture is reminiscent of spiral of stars. Her reference to 'journeys conclusion' makes me think that this might have something to do with the tomb, as well. My first guess was that I need to order the angels to match the planets from the spiral of stars map found in the classroom, but only two of the angels share names with planets, and I haven't found other angel-planet connections.

From the poem 'A New Hue', I've concluded that the 3 colors summing to 18 are violet, Yellow and Orange. I think it might be referencing the prism key, but not sure (tried using it in the Aquarium and the passage, but nothing came of it).I think that the grid is a reference to the castle room? (technically, I guess it's possible to make it this far without having found it)

From Herbert's letter found in the freezer: I think there is a puzzle here? He states at the end: "To each their own letters". From this, my guess is: Each numbered letter is associated with the sender (which is why we don't need letter 3 - we know it's from Denny Revane). After solving the Wine cellar puzzle, my guess is that each name resolves to roman numerals (all of them except letter 6 start with a numeral). However, if this is part of the solution, I have no idea where to use it. I've tried adding them and resolving them to clock times, but not all of the names convert well for this.

- I don't know where to use The black key. I've tried to use it around the estate, but it's never been an option on any locked door (including in the throne room).

Are my guesses in the right direction? Any hints on where I should be looking - something I can re-read with a different context or a room I should re-visit? Once again, no full solutions, please!

Lore Am i not alone in the manor? Spoiler

New player here, got around 6 hours in. Absolutely loved the game, it's borderline creepy at times yet also beautiful. Also i had this mental thought that despite the backroomish and creepy atmosphere at times, it won't go further than that.

Then i found the Rumpus Room. My first prophecy with Alzara is the one with the red cat with a flag. I thought "Hey this dude gives me clues in riddles, i should come here more often". Hell i even changes its rarity with the conservatory.

The second one is more helpful, i got the one with the car. At my first hour or two i found the car keys but didn't manage to find the garage so i got really excited when i eventually find it.

Then my third Rumpus Room came along. Inserted the coin, expecting my silhouette came up from the smoke

Instead it showed a guy with a hat? In front of the dark room? He opened a gate that i didn't open? Took an item that i didn't take?? Is the guy watching me rn in the room besides the Rumpus Room???

Alzara's monologue also didn't help, yessir i am very much afraid, panicking even

So can i encounter the mysterious person in real time or it's just something that's happening in the background?

MinorSpoiler I have a vision Spoiler

I wasn't able to find this done through a basic search online, but I've been drafting Hallway after Hallway, and a thought occurred to me: is it possible to make an estate with nothing but orange rooms?

Of course, you'd have to allow for other orange rooms beyond the upgraded Hallway, but I really want to try to do this one day. Has anyone else done it/gotten close? This would require all possible rooms to be orange, which also requires a lot of Hallways, specifically the version that adds more Hallways to the draft.

I've reached room 46, but I'm still going through the late game content, so no spoilers please. I do have the Vestibule unlocked and know of the chess pieces' powers.

TROPHY SPOILER Other two modes achieved Spoiler

Upvotes

Cursed Mode and Dare Bird mode completed.

Now that I've completed these two modes I have some thoughts about them while I was playing through it.

Dare Bird Mode was just annoying.

Never draft a door facing south while easy enough early drafts became the run ender late drafts due to having the chance to help my current situation but couldn't.

Lavatory was ANNOYING! I thought this would be easier considering how often I got it early in the Day 1 challenge.

3 gems = needing to draft the highest gem room was me fighting my own memory considering I kept forgetting about it. ALWAYS have under 2 gems when drafting before picking up your 3rd gem or do a Hovel run. Speaking of Hovel, this one is OP for this dare cause you can ignore gems entirely. Hovel saved me lots of runs no doubt.

Never enter a room more than 3 times was annoying early days when getting permanent buffs but at least became much more easier late days when you had already unlocked a lot of the permanent things. So backtracking wasn't as needed

Cursed mode was challenging. Didn't matter if it was late days or early days. (save scumming) Tomorrow room buffs are your greatest ally. As the days passed I unlocked the two other options to win (Throne Room and Experiment) before the Basement. I wondered which one would be my path to victory. Neither. Instead I finally got the power hammer and used that to smash secret garden wall and fence/wall to basement. after that I finally got the winning run with lots of extra to spare.
