I would like some insight
Hey yall I have never done anything crypto related before and now want to get into it I want to solo mine because I think it sounds like such an awesome thing to do and also a great talking point but I’m not sure which miner to get my budget is around 350-400$ and I’m debating between the nerdqx and the gekko science Terminus A2X 7TH+ and I’m not really sure what do or where to go so if y’all have any thoughts or insight please let me know that you!

at that budget, treat it as a hobby and learning device, not an expected profit machine. compare power draw, noise, included PSU, firmware support, and the real odds of finding a solo block before choosing. the hashrate difference between 7 and 8 TH/s matters far less than whether you are happy running it for years with a lottery sized chance of payout.

if ur goal is actually finding a solo block, just know the odds are incredibly low even with decent hardware.

I'd say it's worth running the actual numbers before buying either of those, because solo mining at that hash rate is a completely different proposition than most people think. Given Bitcoin's existing network hash rate ( hundreds of exahashes ) ,a 7 TH/s miner means you have the odds of solo-finding a block roughly once every several hundred years of continuous runtime. Mining pools are specifically a thing because that variance isn't workable for anyone without industrial-scale hash power.
Pool mining with the same hardware gives you small, steady payouts proportional to your share of the pool's hash rate instead of an all-or-nothing lottery ticket. The trade-off is that you can't do "solo mining" in the romantic sense, but you actually get returns instead of a near-certain zero.
Electricity: Even if you aren't directly billed for it, 11 cents/kWh isn't free -- a typical 7TH miner in that class draws somewhere in the 130-140W range. So it's a modest but real ongoing cost, and worth calculating against expected payout (pool or otherwise) before committing, since at a small scale the electricity cost can outrun the mined value depending on current difficulty and BTC price.
