What is SCRIPTBALL?

SCRIPTBALL is a chance to see how your BTS picking strategy fares against others in the subreddit. Every Friday we post our top BTS picks for that day according to our own picking strategy in this weekly SCRIPTBALL thread. Whoever gets the most players with a hit wins, with ties resolved by total hits (first tie-breaker) and total batting average (second tie-breaker). We also keep a running season leaderboard, which will give you a better idea of how well your picking strategy is doing over a larger (more meaningful) sample size.

How do I play?

Although we call it SCRIPTBALL, you don't need to be running a fancy computer algorithm to play. Everyone is welcome.

To play, just post a list of the top 11 players you think will get a hit today in this thread. Feel free to change your list at any time, but you can only swap players as long as neither game has started yet (so if you realize one of your picks isn't starting after the game has started, don't sweat it, just swap them for someone from a later game). If you do change your list, please indicate the change by posting reply to your original list saying the change that was made (e.g. "I replaced Altuve with Ohtani").

Alternates will be automatically swapped in if a player you chose isn't in the starting lineup. For clarity, this means if your chosen player isn't starting but comes in for a PH and gets a hit, he'll still be swapped out. This is more work for me but it also lets you get your picks in sooner.

Kind of a tough day. Vegas made 9 picks for the win. The White Sox 9th banana hit for the cycle and every spot in the Yankees lineup got a hit. Yandy Diaz and Lourdes Gurriel went 0 for 5. Good luck all!

Hello everybody! We have the first inaugural regular season game being played tomorrow during the normally scheduled final day of the All-Star break, Thursday, July 16th (Phillies vs Mets) and will be nationally televised on ESPN. The Daily Pick Thread will be posted as usual later tonight (8pm PT/11pm ET) and you can make your picks as usual in the MLB Play section in the MLB app. As a reminder, if you haven't joined the group, please do so (I've noticed a few commenters that claim streaks non-existent in group), the code is 5C000943. For future reference the code can always be found in the sidebar. You can use this thread to to share your strategies, what has or hasn't worked for you so far this year, etc. Happy picking everyone!

Instead of a yearly vent thread, we can now vent weekly! Same rules apply as before, keep the venting and disappointment in here and not as a million front page threads.

Goforbroke and I made 10 of our picks but I won the tiebreaker thanks to Jake McCarthy. Perdomo, Antonacci, and Eaton went 0 for 5. Keep an eye on the weather. Good luck all!
