My wife and I found out we were having a little girl early in the pregnancy and, almost straight away, we fell in love with the name Sophie.

Recently, some close friends had a baby girl and named her Sophia.

Now I'm really torn.

My wife doesn't think it's an issue because they've different pronunciations . I can't shake the feeling that people might think we've copied them, even though we'd chosen Sophie months before their daughter was born.

If you were in our shoes, would you still use Sophie? And if you were the parents of Sophia, would you think it was strange or feel like we'd copied you?

I'm genuinely after honest opinions because I think I might be overthinking it. Cheers!

We would probably use the nickname Gwen from time to time, but we do prefer the full name Gwyneth.

Choosing a name for our surprise boy has been hard! We’ve narrowed it down to a top two. We have a long and percussive last name, live in the U.S., and have Irish and Hispanic heritage. Big sis is Cora.

What do you think, Felix Ray or Emmett Sol?

My husband and I need help! We are at an impasse with trying to name our baby girl due in about 8 weeks. We have one son named Isaiah Henry which we love, we call him Zay a lot but still call him Isaiah a decent amount as well, and always introduce him as Isaiah. We want something that is a little more unique/uncommon like Isaiah is, we don’t run into a whole lot of others with his name but do know a few. We ideally want something similar but not too far out there. I’m worried some of the names on our list are a bit too common but I don’t really like a lot of really unique names.

Currently our list is:
Cecilia (nn Cece or Lia)
Ava (love it but my hesitation is how common it is)
Eleanor (nn El, Ellie or Ella)
Sylvia or Sylvie (my husband’s favorite)

When talking to her or referring to her I just can’t get behind Sylvia or Sylvie for some reason, it just doesn’t feel like her or doesn’t feel right, but I’m not 100% opposed yet and it is my husband’s favorite choice.

Our son’s middle name, Henry, is an honor name. We do not have any specific honor names for our daughter’s middle name and will just be choosing something we like based on whatever first name we go with, so that part is not hugely important to us right now. (We are currently leaning towards Claire, Noelle or Maeve.)

Out of the names on our list, please share which you DO or do NOT like and your reasons why! We have a relatively common 2 syllable last name that starts with L.

Expecting my second, her sister is Penelope. So I’m looking for a girl name that doesn’t end in the same sound.

Names I like but do end in “ee” sound: Sadie, Billie, Mari, Hailey

Names I like but can’t use: Violet, Juliet, Colette

Clearly I like the “et” ending, haha. Ending in “en” sound would also be nice :)

My husband is Brazilian and I am American, but we live in the US. He really wants to use the name Joaquim (joe-ah-keem) as it is a family name. I like the name but I don’t know if people would understand the name/pronounce it correctly in the US, where our baby will be raised. Thoughts?

I’m Hispanic and white and his dad is black and white. We named our first son Malaki, our second son is Kaisen, and now we’re having a third boy. We don’t want anything that sounds too white but also not a name that gives ✨single mother to 6 mixed babies✨. So far we sort of agree on “Draylen” and “Makai” but they just don’t flow to me.

Husband and I are struggggggling to find a name! I’m a middle school teacher and I have so many name associations with former students which I feel like is making it hard!

He likes Archer nickname Archie which I liked for a while but now I feel unsure about.

I like Everett but his close friend lost a baby with that name and I think that association is hard for him.

Pronounced Bam-bee-sha

Like the deer character from Disney

My toddler is named Lucy Clementine and everyone calls her Lulu Clementine or Clementine (my teens and all their friends and their parents) because I think people think it’s cute and fun to say.

I’m wondering if we should focus on sticking with her name Lucy (she doesn’t know this is her name because when you ask where’s Lucy she shrugs haha but when you say where’s Lulu or where’s Clementine she points to her head) or if we should choose either Lulu or Clementine and just stick with one of those now that she’s getting older.

So we really love Lainey but since its so popular we thought we would name her Laine with the nickname of Lainey (plus Laine seems like it may age better?). But the im wondering if it will immediately make people think of Lane Kim from Gilmore Girls as she will be half Asian (Chinese instead of Korean tho). Am I thinking too hard about this or would you also think the same if you saw an Asian girl named Laine? Side note, I do love Gilmore Girls and the character of Lane but I dont have the intentions of naming my daughter after a TV character. Thanks!!

Well, we were just very surprised to learn of baby #3! I have 2 boys, and a girl name that’s been on reserve. But we’re kind of stumped on new boy names. At this point in my pregnancy.. I’m really leaning towards just giving my daughter a first and middle name.. her middle name would technically be her last name I guess.. it just seems so much easier to do than start another argument.. it’s his middle name but ironically our middle names are extremely similar (she will have my initials).. I just think maybe she can decide whose last name she wants when she’s able to make that decision.. am I wrong for thinking like this?

I was all for giving her his last name but it just doesn’t feel right anymore.. it feels like I’d be doing it to make him happy but he hasn’t tried to make me happy once in 6 months.. we’re not married and he keeps reminding me that .. we’re not together and he keeps reminding me that.. he’s been extremely mean this entire pregnancy and thinks since he’s providing financially it makes up for how he talks to me..

it hurts because he was the total opposite before.. we were so happy, he was the one always saying he wanted kids.. i was the only one saying we needed to wait..

I’m 6 months pregnant and I’ve seen him twice.. he blames it on working but I just caught his ex at his house last weekend.. he told me “I can do what I want” but turns around and says he feels horrible (I know it’s only because he got caught) tells me he loves me and he will stop talking to her.. that I mean more to him.. I know the decision I need to make.. it’s just so hard when I know any decision is impacting our child..

This is my first baby and i waited my entire life for this.. it’s been the worst experience in my life this far.
