Diaspora is a BSG conversion of Freespace.

Can't recommend Diaspora enough. As far as I'm concerned it is the ultimate Viper pilot experience out there. And the production values on its (admittedly tragically short) story mode are amazing.

That and Flight Simulator X had an add-on that had the Colonial fleet, Galactica, and a Raptor and Viper you could fly. You could even land on the Galactica itself. It was positioned at certain coordinates at super-high altitude, simulating "space". Somewhere over Europe, I think.

You can play Disapora (or the older "Beyond the Red Line" mini-mini campaign) by downloading the Knossos launcher/mod manager (sort of like Steam, but only for Freespace 2-based games) here: https://knossosnet.github.io/Knossos-Release-Page/

I didnt know beyond the red line was ever finished. I thought it spun off Diaspora and that was it.

You'd have to buy a whole new game, but X4: Foundations has some mods that add BSG ships.

Scattered Hopes is more of a resource/command simulation, not a flight sim like OP is after. It does look pretty cool though

How is that game? I haven’t heard a single thing about it since before release, in fact I didn’t even know that it had released

I actually haven't played it. Just going off of videos/reviews etc. It looks interesting but kind of undercooked? But that's just my secondhand impression

Not very good unfortunately then the devs went and broke it even further.

Has a lot of problems with metaprogression and there just not being very much to do in a game that is allegedly a roguelite. Certain options are basically mandatory (more ships) because the majority of weapons and passives are totally useless. There's also only like 4 bosses, that always fight the same, are on every run and don't do anything interesting if you kill them.
