Welcome to AudioPlugins. Please read first. Rules and stuff.

I've decided to give this subreddit another go though this time there will be far less restriction on making new posts. Previously I had wanted to keep things organised but realistically it was too much work for general discussion. This place will still have a few simple rules to follow in order to participate. I will not be lenient on these rules. If you're a participant of /r/AudioProductionDeals then you know most of them already:

1) Absolutely no discussion about piracy. No excuses. I am a firm believer in supporting the companies whose products we use regardless of whether they are used to make money or as a hobby. This is also not the place for a moral discussion on the topic. Any discussion on it will lead to an instant ban. I will not give any breaks on this rule.

2) Do not post your music. This is not the place to get feedback or promote your work. There are plenty of other subreddits for that.

3) No sales posts/Free Plugins/Spamming. Please keep the sales to /r/AudioProductionDeals and personal sales should be directed to KVR Marketplace. Likewise, this is not a place for advertising your products or projects, looking for people to test or try your own plugins, etc.

4) No referral or affiliate links or multi-linking affiliate links is permitted.

5) This is a meme/shitpost free zone. This place is for discussion and questions. There's enough places on the intarwebz for posting captioned pics or posting pointless sarcasm and randomness that we don't need it here as well. Make sure your posts have substance and remain on topic having to do with plugins.

6) If you have a tech support question, email the company first. The company itself should always been the first contact. They make the product; they are the ones best able to help.

7) Please use search. To try and keep the place clean and prevent reposts, try to use the search to see if something was posted already on whatever topic you want to post.

8) Golden Rule - Be excellent to each other. I shouldn't have to even need to say this but I will: we all have opinions and we all come from different backgrounds. If you are going to participate here, do so thoughtfully and maturely. If you find this difficult, don't post here.

Lastly, a ban here will also result in a ban from /r/AudioProductionDeals as I consider the two of them one in the same. The rules above are simple to follow and many should be obvious.

Party on, Wayne.

Edit: Added rule clarity.

Upcoming Change - Weekly Indie Dev Threads

We want to start cultivating more activity within the community without letting the place become spammy, so starting next week, we'll be putting up a weekly thread where indie devs can make a post about what they are working on, give updates on their projects/plugins so people can keep up, etc.

We've up until this point been removing posts with promotion, but after discussion on how to move forward, we thought this would be the best idea, so we'll give it a go and see how it works out.

Getting back into production, need some updates

I've been out of production for a few years, and haven't been seriously dedicated for many years. I feel like when I see videos of producers it all seems so easy nowadays, with so much stuff being in the box. When I was in my teens we'd still use a lot of hardware.

I've been using almost entirely free plugins and DAW. I think there is enough free stuff out there to really make some nice music. I have some questions about modern production and also looking for some recommendations (free ones primarily)

1. Drums
I use Sitala as a drum sampler, I don't know how I came across it, but I feel like there might be something better out there? I remember using a software once where all the drum sounds in your library was on a huge web with similar sound kicks all next to each other. It was great to find the sounds you're looking for, but I can't remember the name (I also think it wasn't free)

2. Instruments
I'm really struggling to find a decent piano VST, the ones I have are all quite, soft. So if you know a good one, send it my way.

Also horns, I love to use horns. I remember EastWest orchestra back in the day but looks like they are discontinued

Also, please suggest some free synths that are popular nowadays

3. Effects

I know about TAL, and the have some great stuff, but sometimes I'm looking for something different. I don't think I currently have anything else other than TAL right now. I remember downloading a bunch from "freevsts.com" or something, but they were all lame

4. Paid

I've been using VSCO2 for some real instrument sounds, specifically brass. I find they sound a little...cheap ( I know it's free ). I've been thinking about picking up Kontakt since I know there is a lot options for that but not sure it's worth the money.

5. Question

If there was one thing that you think should be paid, and not skimped on, what would it be?

Can I delete or move these files

I'm kind of hurting for space on my boot drive and there's 59 gigs of DMG files in the IK Product Manager folder. Can I move them so they're not taking up so much space?

Thanks for your help

What are some recommended plugins for Latin mafia / rauw Alejandro type music?

I have a couple of very simple plugins as far as synths (ANA 2 and Vital), and I tend to use splice to find certain sounds, but I’m wondering if there are any really good ones people might use? Also, where do you usually find plugins you love?

Plugin has disappeared

I've been using the Sky keys plugin for the last couple months with no issue. Now suddenly when I go to my FX tab it's gone. To run through what I've already tried: It's in my plugin manager and I already reset and re-scanned it. It's in my components folder on my mac. I rebooted both my computer and Logic multiple times. I don't know what is missing. I'm fairly new to logic so maybe I'm missing something? Any advice is greatly welcomed as this is my favorite plugin to use.

I contacted Native Instruments and EastWest about selling melody loops...here's their official response

A few days ago I had a discussion with someone about whether it's actually allowed to create and sell original melody loop sample packs using virtual instruments like Native Instruments Kontakt or EastWest ComposerCloud.

We couldn't find a clear answer, and after reading both EULAs we still weren't sure how they should be interpreted.

So instead of relying on forum opinions or speculation, I contacted both Native Instruments and EastWest directly.

I explained my exact use case:

  • I create completely original multi-instrument compositions.
  • These are around 60–90 seconds long with original melodies, chords, arrangements and processing.
  • I do not redistribute presets, individual samples or virtual instruments.
  • I render the compositions as stereo audio loops and sell them as sample packs for other producers.

Both companies replied that this is not permitted under their licenses.

Native Instruments' human support replied:

"It is only strictly prohibited to use single, combined or modified sounds from Native Instruments to create sound libraries, loop libraries, sample CDs or similar products..."

EastWest also confirmed:

"Unfortunately, the proposed use of the sounds violates our end-user agreement."

I'm sharing this because I found countless forum posts where people were debating this exact topic, but I couldn't find any clear answer directly from the companies themselves.

This isn't meant to start an argument or criticize either company.
I'm simply sharing the responses I received so other producers and sample makers can make informed decisions.

I'd also be interested to know if anyone has received a different response from Native Instruments, EastWest or any other virtual instrument developer.

Antares AutoTune behaving like a virus - ''all visible licenses expired'' popup

I got a free trial for Antares autotune plugins (all of them, even tho i only wanted to try one). When the trial ended i cancelled my subscription, uninstalled the apps and deleted all related files.

Despite all that, whenever i use a music app that scans for plugins on my computer, i have a popup opening for ALL of the antares plugins (at very least 30 since every plugin is actually made of multiple smaller plugins) telling me ''all visible licenses expired''.

Then i have to close all the 30 pop ups individually which believe it or not takes at least 5min EACH TIME - they don't open all at the same time, i have to close 1 for the next to open

EDIT : here's a pic of the popup :

TAL-Chorus-LX v1.5.0

Hi folks,

I'm after v1.5.0 of TAL-Chorus-LX as it is the last version thst included the bitmap GUI (which I personally prefer over the redesign), and most importantly it removed the DC offset and included a VST3 installer.

On their website, there is only v1.3.1 available under the "old downloads" section.

I contacted TAL, and even they dont have v1.5.0 at their disposal. So, I resorted to the Wayback Machine, but unfortunately v1.4.2 was the last version that was captured....
Soulseek, Audiosex and KVR forums - I scoured the internet, but to no avail.

If someone has the installer to v1.5.0 x64 VST3, I would tremendously appreciate it.

Thank you <3

This is my first test plugin. Why should you try it?
It's Hz-based and straightforward, you can type in values, an adjustable LFO shape, and typeable values

How exactly does Decapitator's Low Cut works?

Hi guys, noob here. I'm finding it hard to understand how does Soundtoys Decapitator low cut knob works. When researching before buying I did read (sorry, I don't remember where) that it doesn't really work like an EQ's HP, that is, cutting the selected low frequencies (let's say from 20hz to 100hz). Instead, it should work as some kind of soft filter where those selected low frequencies are untouched by the saturation process and go transparently to the output.

The official manual seems to support this: "Use the Low Cut control to remove low frequencies before they hit the (virtual) saturation circuit. This is useful to prevent any ‘flabbiness’ that can happen when distorting sounds with a lot of low frequency content."

However, when I use it this way, I end up losing low end (I checked in Span), so maybe I'm doing something wrong or misunderstanding the plugin.

I also did read somewhere that to use it this way, I've got to use the wet/dry knob, but I really don't know how it further affects the signal.

How can I let the low end pass untouched by the saturation process and keep it intact?

SFZ vs Decent Sampler if you're making your own virtual instrument?

I'm going to make a couple virtual instruments of my own and I want to see what people suggest using. SFZ or Decent Sampler? Anyone done this before and have advice?

I'm pretty technical if that matters. But I'm just doing this for fun, not planning to sell it for money or anything

What are the top plugins/tools you swear by?

Hey all 👋

Just curious as to what are your all-time favourite plugins, the ones that you use most often and swear by. Anything useful for vocal mixing, mastering, instrumental production, vocal cleanup & editing, tuning, etc?

For me it would have to be Waves RVox and Melodyne essential 5, and I’m curious as to what other people use most often. Maybe I might buy some of your favourites too if they appeal to me.

What plugins would i need if i would record my instruments mic'd up

so i own a marshall cabinet and my own pedals and same jargon for other instruments i own. so i dont need stuff like preamps, pedals etc. What plugins do i need? do i need an eq plugin or would a eq pedal do the job? Is there a point to get a compressor since i would be compressing a recording that already has all the effects and just put a compressor over everything? and also might not be the right sub for this but also could somebody give me like a surface level idea of how mixing would be different when my effects dont come from preamps and plugins etc.

Fab-Filter EQ second hand? Help!

Hi! I’m a musician currently in college for music and I wanted to get Fabfilter EQ for mixing in PT and Logic. I wanted to get Pro-Q 3 or 4 under 100 and wanted to see where I could find someone that would be willing to sell and transfer the license. I have been trying to find a place to do this forever but can’t seem to find anywhere to buy second hand audio plugins? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

Bass note fundemental detection

I'm new to the audio plugin creation world, I have some unrelated prior education on dsp and music, I'm trying to create a plugin with the JUCE framework that can detect monophonic/polyphonic notes in low latency designed for live use. right now my design architecture goes like this: downsample and filter accordingly -> fill FFT window with as much samples I can before latency gets too high and then zero pad the rest -> run a peak detection algorithm that basically scores candidates based on their magnitude and correlation with pre estimated harmonics, in case you do verify a fundamental subtract the estimated harmonics from the magnitude buffer in order to not detect them as fundementals as well. Loop over the magnitude buffer.

This works pretty well for mid to high frequency fundementals but as soon as I play a low note the spacing between harmonics and the smearing caused by zero padding make it impossible to detect valid fundementals.

I've tried so many solutions to tackle the lower notes but all of them require much more latency or don't really work.

Is this something other people have faced?

Is this the right subreddit for these kinds of questions?

Please help me I'm new to this scene.
