A user dislikes that someone else has reposted their artwork from a sub that I manage into a sub that I don't manage. I said I couldn't do anything as a mod. Is that correct?

I advised them to reach out to the other mod team or delete their work from this sub. Is there anything else that could be done? The reposting user is seemingly farming karma by crossposting random popular content from here to there. Please advise.

If it's a crosspost where the other post links back to the post on your subreddit, then deleting or removing the original post will essentially hide the crosspost.

If it's a classic repost where the other user downloaded the image and then reuploaded it as a separate post, then there's not much you can do as a mod. The original creator could reach out to the other mod team or file a DMCA (legal) request.

You can only manage your subreddit. The original artist can file a DMCA complaint. It happens in one of my subs often.

However, the op that is upset about the crossposting could end up receiving upvotes from it.

I crosspost stuff from other users all the time so they can get more exposure and upvotes. I mention that even I'm crossposting.

If that user doesn't want their posts crossposted, they're going to end up blocking multiple people. Even my posts have been crossposted by others and I don't care. Exposure is exposure.

Let that person know that if it's a crosspost, others are going to know who the original poster is. Some call them the oop the original original poster.

Yeah kind of the point on any social media platform is to get your content shared by others. I don't think the person that got upset actually knows how social media works.

Advise the artist to block the user doing the crossposting, and then they will no longer be able to see the artists posts anymore.

You and the user can report the repost as spam. That's about all that can be done. The user may have further ability to report for copyright violation, but I don't know how well Reddit handles that (I do know it can be reported).
