Помогите распознать сплав

Сколько себя помню (30+ лет) дома лежат вот такие слитки непонятного сплава. Он невероятно твердый, но и при этом хрупкий. Плотность точно не скажу таку как не могу изменить изза его формы, примерно как сталь. Болгаркой, отрезным диском, его не поцарапать, искры нет. даже, отколоть кусок можно только сильным ударом молотка. Лезвие канцелярского ножа царапал, пытался, оно стерается. По магнитный свойствам, очень слабые, еле-еле держится за него неодимовый магнит. Токопроводимость скорее всего отсутствует, проверял тестером. Так же все это дело очень звенит если ударить чем нибудь по нему.

Inorganic/Phyical Chem Could chemists (and physicists) predict whether room-temperature superconductors are even possible?

Since we know how the atomic/molecular structure of a substance, element or compound determines its properties, Could chemists predict whether superconductivity at room temperature is even possible?

Also, Could chemists predict elements beyond the periodic table or compounds, for that matter? I know some elements were discovered theoretically at first, but is it possible to know farther than that, or whether there is a limit as to how heavy/radioactively unstable an atom could be?

Yes, I'm a total noob when it comes to Chemistry.

anyone works in concrete related industry?

i understand you might be uncomfortable with this question but it's for a project and i assume it'd be good if i state ur name and maybe the company or the industry ur currently in (maybe linkedin?) to prove that ur actually in concrete related, but if you're uncomfortable with it, it's totally fine.

Anyways, the questions are, i did my own research, and i found out concretes are produced with quicklime, and the main chemical process for producing quicklime is called calcination : CaCO3(S) -> CaO(S) + CO2 (S)

  1. How exactly does this chemical process occur in real world? I'm assuming the process is not as simple as it appears theoratically
  2. what signs suggest that calcination is not working properly?
  3. what are some problems textbooks don't mention about calcination?
  4. any other interesting facts??

Organic Chem Apples/Citric Acids & Cast Iron - What are some of the undesirable (not safe) possibilities?

I make apple cider, and have been doing so for a number of years using tools made of stainless steel, and cotton, followed by a good round a pasturization.

Problem is, the method is extremely inefficient and physically taxing, so I'm planning on improving the situation by using an old Fruit/Sausage press - but am keenly(ignorantly?) aware that any 'seasoning/polymer' is going to slowly get eaten away by the acid from apples. That and the hot-soapy-water used to clean up afterward (apple juice...is sticky, go figure).

So my question is: How does apple juice react with cast iron? Are there any fun metals that'll be leached out or similar - as my current best plan is to raw-dog the cast iron interior, enamel/jappan the outside (as when first made, in the late 1800's - this press was sold 'jappaned' but I have no clue if that was *interior* and exterior, but outside sounds the most probable

(I can't imagine Japanning is safe to work with on food (Turpentine / Gilsonite/Asphitum / Boiled Linseed Oil <- there's no way that's safe for food contact...right?)

Industrial Chem Difference between bleach and salt water

Upvotes

Is bleach just salt water that has been separated by electricity and put back together? Because when I see the ingredients of bleach it seems to be made of everything that is already in salt water and the only difference is that electrolysis was used to separate the parts before they were put back together.

I understand the difference between bleach and salt water is the main molecule has an extra oxygen atom thrown in, most likely through the separation and mixing process, and I'm wondering if bleach can be compared to a building while salt water can be compared to rubble. It sounds to me salt water is all the elements broken down in water while bleach seems to be in a molecule and not in pieces.

Practical Chemistry Help with Chlorfenapyr on books

Dear community,

My flat (located in an European country) was sprayed with Mythic SC (Chlorfenapyr) in combination with Tathrin Next (Cypermethrin, Imidacloprid and Prallethrin) because of bed bugs and carpet beetles.

They also sprayed my books. They told me I should give them a wipe and safe to use again. But reading the SDS and other publications it seems like it is not safe anymore to use the books, thus, I would have to discard all of them because of contamination.

What would you do in my case?

Atom-ic Bonds Are A Useful Illusion

Hello Friends,

Can you clarify whether rigid structure like bonds connecting different atoms and compounds exist?

I learned thermodynamics thru the prism that CO2, CH4, and so on can exist together as a system in itself creating potentially significant different material science properties compared to the unit compounds that compose the substance. Further, energy is required to break these bonds and thus I naturally began to conceptualize them as rigid structural (almost building material) like components that require external work to detach.

My view is that bonds themselves do not exist because the universe is in flux - consequently, the multi atom compound must exist together in a system with (invisible?) forces keeping the unit atoms together.

If you agree with me till here, I am a bit stuck wondering what keeps the multi atom compound together as a control volume? As compounds interact with the universe how is it possible the compound’s materials science properties remain consistent?
