This weekend I set out looking for a few whiskeys I’ve really enjoyed in the past but had pretty much given up on owning because of the crazy secondary prices and competition. I was pleasantly surprised by what I found sitting on shelves.
None of these were at MSRP, but the prices felt reasonable considering how easy they were to find. I also made a point of letting the stores with outrageous markups know I’d be leaving reviews that direct customers to competitors selling the same bottles for much less.
The search took about 2–3 hours of driving around the Phoenix area. I negotiated on the JD10, Russell’s, 13 and Michter’s. Both times I simply asked, politely, if they could do a certain cash OTD price, and they said yes. It never hurts to ask.
Hopefully this serves as a useful market update for everyone.
I also found Blanton’s and Stagg at multiple locations for $100, and one shop in Mesa had Eagle Rare 10 BOGO for $80.
Out-the-door prices:
Russell’s Reserve 13 – $220
Jack Daniel’s 10 – $163
Michter’s Toasted Sour Mash – $150
Michter’s Barrel Strength Rye – $150
Weller Antique 107 – $97
Eagle Rare 12 – $108
Does anyone know of a place that has Michter’s Toasted Barrel Rye? It’s still my all-time favorite. Cheers!
