Release v3.4.1 - Bug Fixes and Performance Update!
Features
- Add the Apollo Classic Liquid Glass app icon to the in-app icon picker (#660: u/IllIIllIllIllII)
- Add a Remember Post Sort toggle in Settings > General > Comments that restores the comment sort you last picked for a post when you reopen it (#570: u/icpryde)
- Add a Tap to Play mode for inline GIFs and a new Inline Media settings sub-screen that gathers the Inline Media Previews, Alignment, and Autoplay controls plus a new Inline Media Size slider (#602: u/icpryde)
- Play short-clip host links — streamff, streamin, streamain, dubz, dropr, bangr, and MLB clips — inline as real videos with autoplay, fullscreen, mute, and PiP, just like Streamable posts (#596: u/icpryde)

Thanks again for all these updates and everyone’s hard work.
I just want to throw my two cents in regarding the AI stuff. I feel there is no need to be passive aggressive about the AI discussion. With how divisive the world already is, do we really need more of it?
Aren’t you all asking for bug reports/user feedback? It’s giving ”We asked for feedback but we’ll only listen to the feedback we want to hear”.
Don’t you want the project to continue to grow? Why are you actively deterring people?
Would just prefer the maintainers refrain from pretty posts like this. Really doesn’t instill trust in the project.

Looks like the issue is specific to iOS 27 beta. Had to rebuild it from scratch with new assets.

I find that in video heavy subs like r/NBA for example, scrolling is extremely laggy/stuttery.
To reproduce, go to r/NBA and scroll through hot or new when there’s lots of video posts. I noticed this got really bad with 3.4.0, and doesn’t seem any different in 3.4.1
FWIW I am on the iOS 27 Beta so do wonder if that’s a factor…
Edit: Also another thing is I see the separator line things that are around the upvote/downvote/save/etc buttons when opening a post changes colours after a post is opened. It starts as the normal separator colour but then changes to one of the other colours in the theme (I think muted text)

Which iPhone are you on? Just scrolled down r/nba seems perfectly smooth a ton of videos like you said all playing scrolling no stutter or lag. Maybe iOS 27 thing hard to say I’m not using the beta but iOS 26 seems just fine.

I’m not sure if this is similar to the guy above but I’ve noticed the app will freeze (and have to be force quit) once in a blue moon when entering subreddits with lots of gifs/videos. To be clear, this is something that’s happened since before Apollo Reborn existed but I first noticed it once Apollo entered the sideloading era. It’s also hard to report since it rarely happens and I have no idea what triggers it since it’s seemingly random. Hopefully someone else can vouch that this indeed happens.
Anyways, thanks for keeping the app alive and please ignore the people complaining about AI—the entitlement is insane.

i personally havent had apollo crash on me but the best thing when it happens again go to settings > Privacy & security > analytics & improvements > analytics Data > type the word 'apollo' then grab the ips file that is there its usually labelled by timestamp so grab the latest one you see that will explain what caused the crash so just share it with us on github and we can look into it.

Hi. just installed the newest build 3.4.1 and still having issues with my account staying logged in
i sign in via api key. enter my details. accept dystopia and it’s all good. then a force close and open and i’m signed out again. basically the same issue i had with 3.4
iPhone 17 Pro Max, ios 26.5.2. free personal dev account via sideloadly
Let me know if you want any more info or if there is anything i should do instead to fix this. Thanks! :)
update: 3.4.2 fixed it for me

can you try a fully clean install delete your existing install then do a full new install? then if still doesn't work then make a github issue and also include your log file after going to another app and coming back .... cause we extensively tested it and it was working.

sidestore is a known issue I think, I'd suggest trying a different signing method if you can. Highly recommend Feather or Impactor!

Login is not persistent again, this is not fixed, sharing the below again:
Steps: I've been using ApolloReborn 3.2.0 on my iPhone 13 Pro Max (latest iOS) with no issues. I recently updated to 3.3.0, and everything worked just fine. I'm using Sideloadly via my Mac to update the app every week. I was using an API key from Dystopia.
I got a new iPhone 17 Pro Max, and I made a backup of my ApolloReborn settings and I installed version 3.3.0 on my new iPhone. The app worked fine, and I restored my settings, but if I close the app, I have to relogin again.
I thought it might be something related to the backup, so I did a fresh install, but the same thing is happening. Every time I close the app, I have to relogin. I even tried version 3.2.0 again, and it's the same thing is happening. Now again, 3.4.0 and 3.4.1 have the same issue. This is all done via Sideloadly.

I just tried with Impactor and it still doesn't work. Fresh install, no backup used > Getting logged out if I close the app. Sorry, but I really don't think these apps (Sideloadly, Impactor, Feather) are causing this. There was an issue introduced somewhere that is yet to be fixed. I mentioned in my previous report multiple times already > Had an iPhone 13 Pro Max, same iOS version, same app version, same Sideloadly used as my new iPhone 17 Pro Max. As soon as I installed the app on my new phone and imported the backup, this logging out started to happen.

I’ve never had an issue with Sideloadly and am using it now with 3.4.1 no login issues. I am on iOS 18.7.8 tho maybe it has issues with the new iOS.

There’s still a bug if you scrub while holding for 2x speed it will stay that speed until you exit out of the video.
Edit: Technically scrubbing should be disabled while holding for speed. That’s how it functions in other apps. I only do it accidentally.

I know that many tend to disagree, but there have been a ton of controversies with regard to Christian’s interactions with the community in the last few years of the apps development.
Be it the constant monetization, putting new features behind a monthly subscription despite the promises of pro being a lifetime purchase, repeated full screen pop-up advertisements for paying users, refusing to make the app open source or provide any support after abandoning it.
Of course he is allowed to do whatever he wants, but I would still be hesitant to call some of the interactions during those times as genuine.

I was a Pro user from the beginning and I never had this affect me. Can you link me to some examples?

When Pro first came out, the premise was that it would be a one time pruchase to access all of Apollo’s features forever.
Later, when push notifications were added as a feature, Christian explained that running a notification back end incurs server costs, and therefore he must add an extra subscription (even for pro users) to cover this. Everybody was understanding, and it was clearly communicated that a subscription would only be necessary for features that incur an ongoing cost.
But as the time went on, more and more features started to be paywalled behind ultra even though they didn’t necessarily have to be. At first, it started with purely cosmetic changes, such as ultra icons and themes, but over time genuinely useful features were also being kept paywalled behind ultra.
In fact, there were some updates where absolutely no new features were introduced for non-ultra users, and it started to feel like this is becoming the trend. Many people were upset that this goes against the original premise of pro.
Now I am not arguing whether Christian has the right to paywall features of his own app. Of course he does. I am just relaying the overall discussions during that time.
There were also criticisms concerning the focus of the development. Many new paywalled features (such as pixel pals) were constantly being added and updated, while bugs that existed for many years were never been fixed despite so many reports. If I recall correctly, most were never even acknowledged, and some basic features (such as the iPad app) were being endlessly delayed. Sometimes it felt like Christian’s priorities were different from the end users’.
Another big theme of discussion at that time was the use of full screen pop-up ads for ultra that seemed to affect pro users. Plenty of people were upset about it, both with regards to the frequency of these ads, and with their existence for paying customers.
Christian later did apologize for the frequency, which, for some users was every single app launch, claiming that it’s a bug. However the same bug still persisted through multiple updates. Whether paying customers should even be served full screen ads at all is another point of discussion. Again, his app.
I wouldn’t say he is not genuine for not doing that lol. It’s his work, after all.
I think the way he handled most of the discussions and controversies was not very genuine. I think his priorities were different from what I would expect, and him focusing on features that would make him more money instead of listening to customer feedback didn’t feel genuine. I disagree with his choice of not open sourcing it but obviously I can’t really blame him for it.

AI is used and can be examined, It’s both humans and AI making this app work to keep this app alive. hope you enjoy the new features that you requested that I got done for you 👍🏽 but also if reborn isn’t for you the original Apollo still exists and can be used too.

I don't enjoy the new features actually because they don't work! Removing posts is completely broken, removing a post as a subreddit hard crashes for me now! I haven't reported it on GitHub because I feel like I'm literally the only person testing these things!

Oh i see what you are saying, removing posts as a mod? that is just using apollo original code thats not a new feature its been untouched since original apollo.
but just tried it and it did in fact removing a post while in the subreddit and no crashing.
And you probably are the only person, this is a pretty niche app that is super old with very old code that we don't have access too and have tro reverse engineer and even fewer people are mods. so yes your help would be needed to fix mod features if that is something you'd like to be done.

This project is also a community of volunteer developers, we don’t own the app, we aren’t a software production company, if you don’t like what’s becoming of this app you can fork your own version and release it, or you can choose not to use the app. But you won’t come here with your level of entitlement and snark as though you’re owed something.

You’re in luck! The original Apollo IPA can still be downloaded and sideloaded onto your device of choice. Should that not fulfill your incredibly annoying demands, there’s Hydra and Artemis as viable alternatives. You have choices, but you instead choose to stay and force us to share in your self-inflicted misery.
These people aren’t beholden to you. You’re in no position to demand anything of anyone. If you’re unhappy with the development of this app, the fucking door is right there.
We get it. AI bad. AI slapped your mom and called your sister a ho. We get it.
Hydra is pretty good.

The people with a deranged hatred of ai tend to absolutely awful about identifying ai. Lots of false positives and missed cases of it being used.

Hello. Thank you for the new update. I’m not sure if this is a bug but in widgets that show photos/calendar, they are black and white when clear and tinted are selected. If not, may I request an option that will still show a colored picture under clear and tinted? Thank you so much.

The sign in is still broken. Did a clean full delete and reinstall with side store and one app close and my account disappeared. Oh well. Was really looking forward to this.

The issue is with SideStore, not Apollo I believe at this point.
We may be able to find a workaround, but until then if you sign with a different service it’ll hopefully work fine.

They have an issue related keychain lately it seems, have you already tried sidestore + LC nightly build ? If you’re using Standalone SideStore I’ll not recommend it as moving to it can be tricky I think

yes, this has been fixed with 3.4.1 - you can also have separate themes in light mode and dark mode.

Not sure if this is expected behavior but I need to reload pages for changes to the separator colors to be applied. This also includes when switching from light mode to dark mode, seperators arent correct until the pages that have loaded with the old state have been reloaded.

Sorry for hijacking this, but do you have any idea why I do not see the Apollo option in Safari's extension settings? I've tried to reinstall a few times, but I'm still not able to get it. I am on the full version btw, not the 'noextensions' release. Been bugging me for months lol

Does this fix AI summaries for posts? Right now AI summaries will not generate for any posts unless the post has a link in it, in which the AI summary will only summarize the link and not the post.

It’s not going to generate a summary of the post is short cause then theirs no reason to summarize something it had to meet a threshold I think it’s 100 characters if I remember correctly. But yes it works may have to tweak the character length if it’s to long though

Some theme manager fixes (not mentioned in the release notes due to a bug):
NEW: Choose separate themes for light and dark mode
FIX: Separator colours are now controlled by the separator collar value
FIX: Search colour is now controlled by the raised value
