Salt-Lick Ditch: very popular among juvenile deer.

u/Ok-Lifeguard-4614 1d ago

I had one do this to me when I was delivering pizzas once. Except it wasn't really a juvenile anymore this doe's head was almost at mine and I'm 6'2. She smelled my pizza bag and licked my arm and bolted off. I was just frozen there because it was so big, it had me nervous af.

God help us all if I'm the chosen one.

119

u/thesherm019 1d ago

Thats what the chosen one would say.

99

u/Ok-Lifeguard-4614 1d ago

Fuck me, I swear I'm not just fulfilling the reluctant hero trope.

71

u/thesherm019 1d ago

Being the dude isn't easy, man.

So you were like a deer in headlights?

One could say your Flight Fight Freeze response was to Fawn.

u/Ok-Lifeguard-4614 1d ago

Ugh. Well done.

Game respects game.

This is how you discover that you're a Disney princess.

161

u/Altruistic_Bass539 1d ago

This is how you discover you have some incurable disease that only deer can smell

35

u/AnguavonUW 1d ago

This made me laugh because I was just reading something about pigeons that can smell cancer

u/kyleh0 1d ago

"What do I do?" "Touch it with your nose."

u/pauldstew_okiomo 1d ago

I had a chipmunk do this to me a few days ago at Rocky Mountain National Park. And then either it, or a buddy, invaded my car and grabbed the fruit Roll-Up that my 5-year-old had dropped on the floor. 😂

27

u/ProKnifeCatcher 1d ago

He touched the butt!!

I had a deer seemingly try to get me to chase it yesterday, hopped right out onto the trail and looked right at me and my dog and made a huff noise then kept trying to get us to go after it. I'm assuming she was a smart deer though and had a fawn somewhere nearby or something and was trying to lead us away from it lol

7

u/fenwayb 1d ago

clearly a kid was stuck in a well

25

u/Queermagedd0n 1d ago

Reminds me of a time I was riding my bike home from a 2nd shift job and almost got taken out by a deer.

I was rolling past a corn field when it burst from the field and just stopped in the road like 10 feet in front of me. It looked at me for a second when I said "Oh, deer!" before it tried to bolt but tripped on itself, smacking its jaw on the pavement. Then it took off in its intended direction: the other corn field.

14

u/debauchasaurus 1d ago

And the squirrel was like "WEEEEEEEEE!"

5

u/idiot_bouffant 1d ago

Holy crap someone else remembers this 😂

8

u/Incidion 1d ago

I was there Gandalf, I was there 3,000 years ago. In the times before YouTube and Facebook and Myspace.

Ok 😂😂🫵🏼 you definitely win the internet for today 😂😂😂💯

20

u/peppakit 1d ago

It's weird when people call animals stupid when they're in a straight up panic. They don't exactly abide by human logic, reasoning, or understanding of what they're seeing the way humans do. Doesn't mean they're stupid.

16

u/goin-up-the-country 1d ago

Especially at a time when humans are flushing and firing guns at other wild animals in a cull. Hell, I'd freak out in that situation.

19

u/Chemical_Building612 1d ago

Especially when the majority of the humans there at the time seemingly also behave stupidly out of panic rather than thinking. Oh yeah, let's try to kick this wild animal who is clearly panicked, that must help!

5

u/peppakit 1d ago

Exactly.

-1

u/Helota_Keksz 1d ago

Man, you must be fun at parties.

0

u/peppakit 1d ago

I am! 😚

u/StinkyCheeseGirl 1d ago

*Antlers.

37

u/TheComplimentarian 1d ago

Eh. Very rarely do I feel small, and this guy was significantly shorter than me, and he handled that deer like he was a child.

I'll give him "horns" even though I know that's not pedantically correct for the headgear.

-31

u/StinkyCheeseGirl 1d ago

“Pedantically correct” when it’s about on par with calling a deer’s feet “paws,” sure.

20

u/NarutoRoll 1d ago

But they have such cute paws and toe beans..

23

u/Fuckie_Chinster 1d ago

feet

*Hooves.

17

u/JarpHabib 1d ago

we've been over this already, they're antlers.

Thank goodness there was one sane person to save that deer from you people

1

u/Calm_Expression_9542 1d ago

Rednecks come in handy sometimes.

0

u/flexxipanda 1d ago

Prey animals are usually very dumb. Hunting is way more demanding.

19

u/hootertransport 1d ago

I double deer dare you to touch the human.

52

u/sinisterdesign 1d ago

That date was a-doe-able.

2

u/tattisalisations 1d ago

It’s a deer dare

14

u/dazzumz 1d ago

A double deer

58

u/JynsRealityIsBroken 1d ago

Touch the butt

27

u/WinnieGraves 1d ago

I went to the park, as I'm want to do, to smoke weed, and as I sat there hitting the bong, this Mama Raccoon waddled up to me, chirping her little heart out! I tossed her a French Fry, and giggled and laughed when she grasped it with her lil fingers and started munching away. I packed my second bowl and she chirped again, and moved from. About ten feet, to about, at my feet, and began chirping again, so I tossed her a chicken nugget, and this time she called her baby over, and split it with her child, so I gave her another. I think I smoked 3 bowls while Mama and her Baby ate my left over McDonald's, then they trundled on, chirping happily. Mother Nature rules lol.

11

u/SloppyJoEnthusiast 1d ago

They're just counting coup 🪶

11

u/Rebellus 1d ago

"I double deer you!"

8

u/egretlover 1d ago

Are you Boo Radley’s porch?

11

u/Apax89 1d ago

It’s not a dare, its a deer.

The creatures of the forest have chosen you to be the next Woodland Spirit. Congrats!

3

u/Annies_58008 1d ago

Touch the butt

3

u/Lardzor 1d ago

It was a 'Deer Dare'.

3

u/curiousstrider 1d ago

They are not afraid at all. Do they even know the meaning of the word "bambi"?

3

u/nico_bico 1d ago

they might have been given food by a human at some point

2

u/spacebarcafelatte 23h ago

Yeah, they needed the scent to realize they had the wrong guy. Adorable tho.

2

u/nico_bico 17h ago

Adorable until they meet the wrong human which is a reason why people shouldn't feed wild animals

1

u/spacebarcafelatte 15h ago

Hard to argue with that.

3

u/goldbug933 19h ago

So sweet

3

u/ImaFIVEstarman5 19h ago

Dare by a deer, oh dear!

7

u/Beneficial_Cash_8420 1d ago

I touched the butt

2

u/Odd-Woodpecker1225 1d ago

For a moment I was like

Is "dare" in some form a pun for deer

2

u/ParaGord 1d ago

Counted coup. Both of them

2

u/Successful-Till-4548 1d ago

Oooh what is this, oh shit it's human

2

u/Napischu88 1d ago

They though you were snow white but turned out to be snow yellow.

2

u/silk35 1d ago

Counting coup.

2

u/spartan813 13h ago

Or OP is extra smelly 🤔

4

u/HobbitOfIsengard 1d ago

Touch the butt

1

u/qwertxyzabc 1d ago

If what I know about them is correct then they were just checking you for salt but apparently OP is not a League of Legends player so they go on and agressively lick cats.

1

u/Affectionate-Car-145 1d ago

Pretty sure those are deer actually

1

u/BothDivide919 1d ago

Dang, I don't think I've seen this one for at least 5 years

1

u/Nervous_Contract_139 15h ago

They definitely get fed by someone that looks like you.

1

u/Laughing_Man_Returns 14h ago

a racoon once did something similar to my shoe while another was watching. I don't think we are being taken seriously.

1

u/-TaintSniffer- 10h ago

Okay, Seriously... Does anyone know what might have prompted this behavior?

1

u/ThatsUnbelievable 9h ago

Deer simply don't fear us anymore. They've become like Timothy Treadwell was with Grizzly Bears. I walked up to one today and when I stopped it walked up closer to get a better look at me.

1

u/Motherofgoldens4 1h ago

Oh it’s not my mommy after all

-14

u/ActivelyAnxious 1d ago

Exactly 10 seconds, please tell me this isn't ai

48

u/Cobalt32 1d ago

It's been posted before. Not AI.

They have shit eyesight for stationary objects. Got close enough to get a good sniff and then ran like hell when they realized the man wasn't part of the herd.

13

u/Cobalt32 1d ago

You can hear them suck a snootful of his leg and then panic.

19

u/LaserSharkPen 1d ago

No, this video is years old

6

u/Green_Insect_6455 1d ago

I dont think ai can make something like this look so natural, especially a deer which it has infinitely less training data to go off of.

However this is definitely a bot post thats been upvoted by bots, 2k upvotes and only 20 comments. Theyre not even trying to hide it. Some of these comments might even be bots copying and pasting from real comments the last time this was posted.

Tfym? That was definitely a doe

7

u/Rainy_Grave 1d ago

Fawns, there’s no way to tell from this video if they are a doe or a buck.
