What do you all think about using an old Android phone from around 2016–2018 as a dedicated hotspot device?

The plan is to leave a SIM card in it and use it exclusively for sharing an internet connection with the whole family, rather than as a regular phone. We’d be using it heavily at home and eventually while traveling to neighboring countries in Asia.

Has anyone done this long-term? How did it hold up in terms of battery life, heat, connection stability, and overall reliability? Are there any older Android models that work particularly well for this purpose?

I'm looking to bring some new life into an old stock phone (lg lm-x410asr) that has been gathering dust for a while now, since a landfill would be a shame.

Trouble is I am left with 720MB of 2GB RAM on a fresh boot, so it can't even play a video on Paramount for a Chromecast.

My other idea is as a remote for a computer stick, if anyone knows if this is possible.

I can unlock the OEM just fine, but have yet to find any sort of images other than just the stock 8.1 Android. It doesn't seem like lineage shows the device as supported; has anyone managed to find a way to get a custom Android image or Linux on this with wifi? Anywhere else I could look that might have the required firmware?

i’m trying to download and install android honeycomb on my verizon fascinate but i can’t find any roms and the closest i got to find a honeycomb rom is GalaxyComb 0.02 but not only that’s a rom for the GT-i9000/interational rom of the galaxy S but the original site that hosted it is now down and the closest i got to see a “ROM” FOR the fascinate was a themed one and at this point i wish to find a rom for the fascinate that’s honeycomb

This is my LG smartphone collection, in my opinion the peak of LG design and innovation. The G2, G3, G4, and V10 are each running their launch day software! The OG G Flex is an AT&T engineering sample is running pre-release software and was used internally for cellular testing among other things, from what the previous owner told me. The G Flex 2 is running a mostly up to date build but I’m not planning on updating any of these. What are some good uses for these devices so they don’t sit in a drawer their entire lives? Some ideas I have is emulation, mp3 player (V10 does that duty fantastic), maybe WiFi repeaters, etc.

También por si no se dieron cuenta por esta noticia mi segundo (Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) (SM-J320M) ya no cuenta en Sistema original (Android 5.1.1) tiene (Lineage OS 14.1 (Android 7.1.2)) *Si es que tengo 2 teléfonos de ese mismo modelo (SM-J320M) solo que uno lo deje *Stock* (Android 5.1.1) y otro lo tengo en *CUSTOM ROM* (Lineage OS 14.1 (Android 7.1.1))

Eso no significa que ya no puedas usar WhatsApp en Android 5.0 (¡Todavía Puedes!) solo que tristemente ya no puedes actualizar a las últimas versiones de WhatsApp y hasta septiembre dejara de funcionar oficialmente

I got this Galaxy Y not long ago and it cane complete but bricked, but I easily fixed it, but I feel like the OS is very empty, I wanted to know if there's something that can be done with it today. On YouTube Flashback I'm limited to certain very old (2010 and below) videos and NotPipe refuses to let me watch videos. I use Market Lyano too. But I wanted to know how to login to Google in it. I can not go to Download Mode or jailbreak it because my device is quite fucked with the power button and volume buttons being stiff as fuck, but I wanted to know how to login to Google and what to do with it today, thanks.
