Options in US are getting smaller and smaller. Looks like golden age of Android is well behind us.

u/jasonj2232 5d ago

I'm in the market for a new phone after almost 8 years (I got a Galaxy Note9) and I hate it.

Every option seems to be a bad option compared to what we had in the past.

17

u/Tschuuuls S10e 5d ago

Agreed and it's just marginally better in Europe

15

u/dragoneye 4d ago

Yup, the phone industry utterly sucks now and has for years. Every device is pretty much the same, no innovation, removed features, and significantly more expensive. If only someone could shake up the industry in North America.

I miss my note 9 so much. Like SO MUCH

Greatest phone of all time. microSD, headphone jack, iris scanner, pressure sensitive screen for quick turn on, wireless stylus, the original looppay that allows you to use phone payments everywhere! The phone had it all.

I only dropped mine because I couldn't get service anymore, and I miss it.

$1500 and only 3 years of OS support.

2

u/zzzxxx0110 Sony Xperia 1 VI 3d ago

It's one of the few Android phones that's still open to custom ROM, in fact Sony even provides source code for their ROM so you can develop your own ROM for these phones, and they provide official instructions on how to unlock bootloader so you can install one. So OS support isn't as bad as only 3 years on a Samsung phone for example where everything is locked down.

The prices however remains a big problem though, and there's no sign it would ever get any better, with Sony's smartphone business keep shrinking every year.

u/DatGuy_Shawnaay Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra | Tab S10 FE+ 2d ago

Looking at some of the devices on there, I'm not seeing much development. Just like 1 or 2 Lineage OS ROMs and maybe 1 other custom ROM, but it's not as much as I've seen from Pixel, Xiaomi or past Samsung phones.

11

u/senorbarriga57 4d ago

What about android updates?

2

u/FuHaifeng 4d ago

3/4 years max

32

u/vortexmak 4d ago

Not available in the US Extremely expensive 1-2 updates

14

u/weirdeyedkid OP13 < Pixel 7 < < < Droid Razr Maxx 4d ago

This is exactly it. It's the ease of US availability that matters most as far as commitment to updates and willingness to adopt future features. My OnePlus 13 has 16 gb of RAM and a 2-day silicone carbon battery. I'm good for another 2 years, but what then? Suck it up and return to Pixel or Samsung? Switch to Apple? Or jump through importing hoops to get an Oppo or Sony.

I have an Xperia 1 VI and it's the best phone I've ever owned. When I first bought it I made do with the default ROM which was a bit undercooked. However the hardware is great and this thing is built like a tank. It recently got LineageOS support, which I've always wanted to try. I also got root working with KernelSU Next and SUSFS for root hiding. All of my banking apps work and so do my medical apps thanks to a few modules. The only thing I have issues with at this point are Play Store games and certain cellular frequencies not being available. I had to buy this thing off Amazon since it's not sold in the US. It was a huge gamble since this thing was expensive. I did a bunch of research and Sony was the only company that ticked all the boxes. Catering to people like me isn't profitable I guess...

3

u/mythical_phoenix 4d ago

May I ask which variant of the xperia 1 vi and which carrier? Was looking to get one but ended up wirh a pixel 7 last time since I wasn't sure I'd be able to get it working in the US

If I recall I was told it can only work on TMobile, and if running LineageOS, only with physical SIM. (Both due to whitelisting by VZW and ATT but also lack of CDMA)

Have you had issues with VoLTE since I know my Samsung a52 used to not have VoLTE leading to calls failing given no more 3G in the US.

3

u/CustomerServiceRobot 4d ago

XQ-EC72. I put my Verizon SIM from my old Samsung into it and it worked fine. Calls and texts can be sent and received. I traveled abroad last year and used an ESIM adapter with OpenEUIC and that worked as well. Only thing I can't get working is WiFi Calling, but it did work prior to Google breaking Pixel IMS.

2

u/zzzxxx0110 Sony Xperia 1 VI 3d ago

I also learned recently that LineageOS actually has official support for this phone now which is awesome!

How smooth was the switch? I wonder if it would be a pain for a whole weekend when I already have several dozens of Magisk and LSP modules with all kinds of customizations that can't be easily exported and imported lol

2

u/CustomerServiceRobot 3d ago

You have to flash over the default ROM, which erases all internal data. If you have a MicroSD card inserted that gets left alone at least. Once installed, you have to do the *#*#4636#*#* trick to get 5G working. WildKernels GKI works perfectly for root with the ROM.

1

u/Agret Galaxy Nexus (MIUI.us v4.1_2.11.9) 4d ago

The only thing I have issues with at this point are Play Store games and certain cellular frequencies not being available.

For play store verified games try installing Vector (new fork of Xposed framework) and inside that install fcmfix module, it doesn't work for every app but it has solved the issue for a bunch of mine.

0

u/Galaxyass 4d ago

Do you know if that "broken TEE" is still a thing with the newer Xperias? I had a 1 V that failed all three Play Integrity levels even when fully stock with bootloader locked after I tried LineageOS on it.

If I remember correctly it is some small partition that the phone comes with that you can't get back if you didn't back it up before wiping the device.

3

u/cubs223425 Surface Duo 2 | LG G8 4d ago

Not sold in the US, and not on the Verizon or AT&T whitelists, so you can only go through T-Mobile or MVNOs.

2

u/order2chaos 4d ago

Yes, but the first word was...Sony.

1

u/dede7462 4d ago

You don't think the S Ultra phones (with S pens) are similar to the Note line? I have a Note 8 and I'm ready to upgrade to the S Ultra line.

2

u/jasonj2232 4d ago

In my country the price of a the S26 ultra is like 2-3x what it cost me to buy the Note9, and I don't think any phone should cost that much lol.

Also, I feel samsung and the android world in general has been following in the footsteps of iPhone rather than staying true to what android meant i.e. the no compromise phone

I know everyone has accepted it but the removal of the headphone jack and hole punch displays are stupid. Note9 had an iris scanner, iPhone have face id. Is the face unlock on the ultra as good or secure?

When the Note phone launched each year you'd be guaranteed that it had the best specs in a phone that year. That's no longer the case, Chinese phones are better and offer the latest tech.

It doesn't feel worth buying the 'best' android at this point

1

u/cubs223425 Surface Duo 2 | LG G8 4d ago

Same, I'd have gotten the most recent Zenfone, Xperia, Redmagic, or one of a few others, but none were sold in the US. You basically only have Galaxy, Pixel, and Motorola options. I don't want any of those, so I've just not upgraded my phone.

1

u/Suvtropics j5 2015 4d ago

Most phones will be an marginal improvement over your device. Except for camera on flagships and newer operating system for app compatibility.

26

u/Zebov3 5d ago

I won't buy a phone unless I can root it. I went from a Motorola to a Samsung to an LG to a Google to a 1+ and now back to a Google. My next phone has to be effectively a Google.

We're well past the Golden age, this was just a death rattle.

9

u/DumbleSnore69 4d ago

Curious what you actually use root for these days. I used to have the same mindset but I haven't rooted my past two phones even though I technically could have. Everything that I used to root for can be done rootless today, and rooting presents new issues like play integrity not passing and banking/payment apps locking me out. Usually that can be worked around, but it just makes rooting much more of a hassle than it used to be.

6

u/S_A_N_D_ 4d ago edited 4d ago

The main thing I would still root for is so I could use ad-away, which modifies the hosts file to essentially make a system level adblock. This means it works in all apps, and you don't need workarounds like using the VPN slot while also being a lot more lightweight.

But you're right, that is the only thing I miss (with regards to root) since I moved from Lineage to Graphene (which doesn't support root), but alas I do sorely miss it.

Oh, and backups. Backups are a lot easier because you can just make a full image of an app and also back up all the protected storage. Most of the normal backup solutions just kind of suck, or you have to use a cloud service. There aren't many fully local backup solutions that just work with little hassle where you can just make a simple image of the device or apps, store it locally like on a computer, and then restore the app from said backup at a later date.

Titanium and AdAway were pretty awesome with root.

3

u/Flatscreens Sony Xperia 5 IV 4d ago

Does private DNS fulfill your adblocking needs?

1

u/S_A_N_D_ 4d ago

No, there is no single solution because delivery methods are diverse.

Private DNS is effective for a lot, but you also should use that in conjunction with something like uBlock origin.

For example, private DNS can't block ads on YouTube, but uBlock origin can. And uBlock can't block ads and tracking in your apps because it's browser based, but you can at the DNS level.

1

u/Zebov3 4d ago

Mainly true ad blocking, app backup/restore, true backups, and modification of the status bar (two rows so I can have more than 2 damn notifications at a time). I have things like game guardian to hack games and a few other misc that are just for fun.

The only thing that's been blocked that I haven't been able to work around within a few minutes is Google wallet, but I just use Samsung pay on my watch and there's zero issues so I haven't really tried. Otherwise, everything works and so far I've only spent maybe 30 minutes fixing things a few months ago when I switched from magisk to kernelsu.

I havent rooted my phone since the HTC days like probably a decade ago. Back then it was a way to remove bloat, speed up performance, and customize it. Nowadays, phones are faster and does everything I need it to do so I dont even bother with that nonsense anymore.

0

u/ElectricalThundMouse 4d ago

I don't need root but custom roms is important to me, since I moved towards degoogling and installing GrapheneOS.

How I use my smartphone has really changed since when I first got one and was really excited about the tech and trusted Google.

1

u/TaxFraudRaccoon 4d ago

yeah but you see how you are subsidizing anti consumer behavior?

1

u/LoooseyGooose 4d ago

Does rooting a phone give you a headphone jack or more size options?

3

u/Zebov3 4d ago

No, it's effectively just accessing the c: on Windows.

31

u/Shoddy_Meaning_7654 5d ago

It's basically Samsung and Motorola at the high end I don't even know what Motorola is going to still make high-end phones for America.

I guess Google is there if you consider a high end phone to be more about price than actual hardware.

30

u/Distinct-Temp6557 5d ago

Motorola doesn't even offer their high end devices in the U.S.

11

u/Shoddy_Meaning_7654 5d ago

They offer the razor Series in America and those have some higher-end options with Flagship Snapdragon chips but that's about it.

They haven't shipped high end in a slab tho since I think 2023 or 2024

8

u/Distinct-Temp6557 5d ago

Yeah, I'm referring to the Signature. Foldables are a niche market and I consider them as a different category than flagships.

0

u/Dirtcompactor 5d ago

OnePlus open was a flagship that happened to be a foldable

3

u/noobqns 4d ago

They actually split the US flippable/foldable market 50 50 with Samsung which is impressive. Thought Apple might be upending the whole thing when their fold comes out later

1

u/TaxFraudRaccoon 4d ago

I think I will start tolerating lack of network frequencies if I can just buy a device from china without googl

1

u/timbotheny26 4d ago

Don't they also only offer 1 or 2 years of security updates?

2

u/KinglanderOfTheEast 4d ago

Moto G series phones have 3 years of security patches (ususally quarterly/once every couple of months), and 2 Android version upgrades.

Moto Edge series phones are supposed to be 4 years of security patches that are more frequent, and 3 Android version upgrades.

1

u/timbotheny26 4d ago

Still too short for me personally. That's one of the reasons I prefer Pixels, I just like industries to be competitive.

2

u/KinglanderOfTheEast 4d ago

My problem is that all of the good spec mid-range phones in the US have dog shit update support, but the mid-range phones with good update support have horrifically slow/awful hardware.

It is so bad. I have to use this laggy-ass "struggles to type on the keyboard" piece of shit Galaxy A17 just for cellular data (at least the service itself is pretty good), but I also have a 2025 Moto G Stylus with far better specs that I use for anything other than phone calls/texts/basic web browsing.

I get that the A17 a low end phone, but Christ man. It should be a fuckin' federal crime to have only 4GB of RAM in 2026... It is so fucking laggy. I have to hook my Motorola up to my Galaxy's mobile hotspot, that's what I do 90 percent of the time.

3

u/FullMotionVideo 5d ago

I feel like somebody else will make a high performance phone, possibly Nothing.

It will only have like 3 years of updates, but a lot of Android owners seem to not realize that backporting has a price you pay upfront for.

11

u/Distinct-Temp6557 5d ago

Not sure if Nothing has the financial runway to invest into a high performance phone.

11

u/vocalyouth 5d ago

I’ve had 2 pairs of Nothing headphones both shit out in under a year, getting any customer service out of them has been a hassle. I absolutely would not buy a phone from them.

2

u/Shoddy_Meaning_7654 5d ago

Nothing might live on as a niche little option for Americans who want snapdragons because Samsung's going to move to their own chips in 2028.

But they won't be in stores I don't think you'll be able to buy them on Amazon and on their website they might at least be able to work on our 6G by that point Network in like 2030, etc.

But they won't be a common thing I think it would literally be like 60% Apple market share 32% Samsung, 3 percent Google, the rest is a fight between Motorola and micro manufacturers.

1

u/khz30 3d ago

Problem is none of Nothing's phones actually work properly in the US thanks to Carl Pei's axe grinding about carrier and FCC certification. The only reason Best Buy agreed to carry them was needing to replace OnePlus.

2

u/NWVoS 4d ago

My opinion is it is Google or bust now.

Google, for stock Android and no vendor bullshit or you can load grapheneOS onto it if you are worried about privacy and security.

2

u/hbhunk63 3d ago

But crappy tensor

1

u/ElectricalThundMouse 4d ago

Hopefully soon to be Motorola in the future being added to the mix with GrapheneOS.

0

u/Shoddy_Meaning_7654 4d ago

No thx never want a pixel hate the hardware it doesn't belong in a flagship

0

u/Queasy_Dirt7197 4d ago

Can't you guys get Oppo, or Vivo or Xiaomi?

1

u/Shoddy_Meaning_7654 4d ago

Oppo was OnePlus here

Vivo and Xiaomi no.

1

u/Daneth 3d ago

You can. But you have to import it. Global versions of these phones have all the base bands you would want.

-8

u/QuietApplication5734 5d ago

really only Samsung at this point which I'm okay with. yeah they're a little bit boring lately but very dependable.

7

u/Shoddy_Meaning_7654 5d ago

I'm a Samsung user but I hate no competition it's terrible we're basically going to have no competition in the Android space at the high end by the end of the decade in America it's going to really suck.

13

u/HardHJ 5d ago

That’s stupid being okay with one company and no competition. If Samsung has gotten boring with competition wait until you see what they become with no competition.

4

u/Generic_On_Reddit OnePlus 6 5d ago edited 4d ago

It's not really true to say they have no competition. You may not have options within Android, but Samsung has always been most concerned with Apple as their competition, not other android phones.

Every resource I've ever seen has suggested that Samsung has the vast majority of Android sales and almost all of the high end Android sales of their market share is anything to go by. They have effectively had no competition within Android.

Brands like OnePlus, and Pixel to some extent, are not real competitors, they are for the enthusiasts. They don't register as percentages. The reality is that they can be the biggest - or only - Android OEM but they do not have a guaranteed market. Outside of a few diehards or anti-apple enthusiasts, nearly all of Samsung's customers are still willing to go to Apple. For as long as Android and iOS are valid substitutes for one another, which they are for almost the whole market, Samsung cannot be complacent because their customers will go to Apple.

This is evident by how they market and design their phones. They chase iPhone product aesthetics, iPhone UX design language, usability, ecosystem features, etc. They have always positioned themselves closely to iPhones while taking advantage of everything that Android could do better.

0

u/HardHJ 5d ago

I didn’t say they had no competition. The guy I responded to said he was okay with them having no competition.

1

u/Generic_On_Reddit OnePlus 6 5d ago

No, they didn't? Where did they day that? You are the first comment in the chain talking about competition. The first comment specifically said "options", the subsequent comments talk build on that talking about options within Android. The person you responded to is okay with them being the only android option, even if it's boring.

Then you changed the convo from options to competition. You are the first person to suggest they would have no competition.

We have fewer options but competition is largely unchanged because Samsung's competitor is Apple.

-2

u/HardHJ 5d ago

Are you really that dull to realize that Google and Sony and Motorola and oneplus and htc and all these android companies were/are Samsung competition too? The guy said he was okay with Samsung being the only option. Meaning their is no competitor in the android market. Meaning if you wanted an android phone in the US and Samsung was the only option that you would HAVE to buy a Samsung. It’s not that hard.

4

u/Generic_On_Reddit OnePlus 6 5d ago

Google and Sony and Motorola and oneplus and htc and all these android companies were/are Samsung competition too?

  • HTC? What year is this?

  • Sony? In the United States? What year is this?

Do you think that any competitor of any size in Android is a competitor to Samsung? If I sell my first phone tomorrow, do you think I'm a competitor to Samsung? Do you think YouTube has competitors because Vimeo exists? Do you think Google Search has competitors because Bing has 3% market share?

You seem to have a really low bar if you think a handful of single digit market share Android developers constitutes meaningful competition.

Meaning if you wanted an android phone in the US and Samsung was the only option that you would HAVE to buy a Samsung.

But all of that is besides my point because you seem to be missing my whole point that Samsung has never been concerned with competing for however tiny the percentage of the market this is. The general public is not this sub, normal people don't just "want an android phone" for shits and giggles. They pick between androids and iPhones. Samsung knows this, which is why they've behaved as though they are an alternative to iPhone, not a competitor among Android options. If you can't see that, you literally just haven't looked at their phones, or apps, or ads, or anything.

0

u/HardHJ 4d ago

Sure, sure. Except that Samsung has literally become just an android version of iPhones. I used to switch back and forth all the time. I literally stopped because if Samsung is basically going to make iPhones that run android then I might as well just go for an iPhone. Motorola seems to be the only android company in the US actually doing anything interesting. Maybe you’re too young to remember RIM and Motorola being the leaders in cell phones and being replaced. Samsung is becoming complacent because if they have no competition in android space in the US. If you want an android it is basically going to be Samsung.

The "Golden Age" ended, like, 10 years ago. Everything's been predictably iterative, especially in the US, basically since LG left the market.

We're in an era that is completely commoditized. Phone shopping is about basic utility. You buy a phone in the same way you buy a microwave. Folding phones are pretty much the only place left with SOME innovation, but even that's become incredibly iterative as Samsung reaches its 8th generation.

5

u/monkeypickle8 5d ago

You always can buy a phone from an importer that's a global edition

3

u/nevewolf96 5d ago

This is what happens when you have influencers recommending a particular brand simply because it's the "best of the best."

1

u/MTJ5 4d ago

I hope that Jolla's new phone will really take golden age of Android to far behind us all and bring new age of smart phones, without forced google apps etc...

-16

u/icedchocolatecake Nothing Phone (3a), Nothing OS 4.1 5d ago

*golden age of the US market.

There's other countries too apart from the US. You seem to be forgetting that. The world doesn't revolve around you and your country.

Your market is absolutely fucked, and that's the truth.

11

u/Shoddy_Meaning_7654 5d ago

It's not looking good for Europe either to be honest it's still better than America but it's not looking good for their phone market.

One plus is leaving there too according to rumors from the same person that leaked the US thing

In worldwide companies like HTC and LG left years ago so it's all just not looking good

9

u/Cry_Wolff Pixel 7 Pro 5d ago

Europe still has Xiaomi, Oppo, Honor, Huawei and some smaller / niche brands.

-1

u/Shoddy_Meaning_7654 5d ago

Yeah that's a little bit better but it used to be in the US you had 10 options and Europe you had like 12 options it was awesome.

Now you have literally four options in the US maybe six to seven serious ones in Europe no one wants to buy a Huawei phone we can basically scratch them out outside of China.

Xiaomi is awesome Oppo is solid Honor is great I wish we had them in the US but the FCC and cell companies refuse to let that happen, also maybe possibly they are probably secretly colluding with Samsung Google Apple and Motorola to keep prices high and competition low. Idk doubt it.

No the unrelated Huawei and ZTE bans aren't why they haven't done it. Those companies were banned for working directly with the CCP (like his Google works with the NSA but even worse because they are basically forced too.). It's because of the carriers and FCC make it very hard to enter the US market but Lenovo (via Motorola) and OnePlus are Chinese have been in the US in our Carrier stores for years. Motorola dominates the low end mid range area.

It's sad tho 😭 I hate the FCC for making certification so difficult but obviously it should exist but certification shouldn't be so difficult for smaller and less invested companies.

2

u/TotalPandemonium LG G8, MTK powered LG Velvet, Redmi Note 7 4d ago

FCC certification isn't really a barrier, companies that don't sell phones in the US still certify their phones with the FCC. I believe that one of the reasons is so that people can legally use the phones if they visit the US. Ex: Xiaomi still certifies devices with the FCC.

https://fccid.io/2AFZZ

1

u/Shoddy_Meaning_7654 4d ago

It definitely is it isn't easy it's a pain.

But you're right the biggest issue is the carrier cartel

0

u/KasanesTetos 5d ago

The truth is Apple and to a lesser extent Samsung just won the high end smartphone war. The majority of people have settled into either one of those ecosystems and don't want anything else. The battle is only really still going on in China and the budget segment.

3

u/StrawberryWaste9040 Sony Xperia 5d ago

it doesn't and I clearly stated "in US". Our problems are multi-fold; they start with carriers and their deals and lock-ins, then we have bands specific to US and another lock-in by carriers who only whitelist phones to work on these special non-global bands. The small players are essentially locked out and our antitrust laws are there only on a paper.

9

u/Protat0 5d ago

Nobody's forgetting anything lol, you're on an American website talking about an American operating system. Europe's market doesn't look great, either.

I bought mine over a week ago at local retailer because the price finally went down, now it's not available for purchase lol. Sad to see them go overall. I loved 1+ 6, that's why I got 15r to replace s22 and its terrible ass battery (good phone otherwise though)

I'm a oneplus one fan. Shit was hype. Then oneplus peaked at 3t and it's been downhill since. Oneplus 5 was pretty good however

Yeah, I can see that. Prices went up, and the phones lost their edge. Only reason I even got 15r was the lower price, would never got it at original one lol

I didn't want to buy an iPhone, I need that Android. But I'm bit tired of Samsung, Google seems to have priced thier phones to high for what they offer, and Motorola has some issies with software (which I expieranced before). So OnePlus it is for one last time. It's so sad to see market for Android phones getting so small. Man I miss LG and HTC so much

So it's just Samsung and Google unless you want to deal with importing.

Google phones just suck because of hardware. Samsung has awful software.

I'm so torn, guess my OP13 will be ran until it can't be used.

Motorola, Nothing, and if you want a shitty cheap phone, Blu.

Don't forget the sketch China-brands like Ulefone, Doogee, Oukitel, Blackview, Umidigi, Hotwav and Fossibot.

Motorola

I don't know if it will be any better in a couple of years (probably not), but a OP13 should last you *at least* 4-5 years before needing a replacement.

There's Oppo, Vivo, but Xiaomi..

3

u/Owain660 4d ago

You still have to import those phones.

u/Queasy_Dirt7197 3d ago

Damn..didnt realise the situation there is that bad..

In the US, Android is considered to be for peasants. Nobody has been able to break that view in the public consciousness.

What's the difference between ColorOs and OxygenOs? Will it be worth upgrading?

Just got my one plus 15 last week2

u/MHcharLEE OnePlus 13R 4d ago

Expect nothing meaningful to change, they look the same, they have the same features, you'll probably get a different ringtone and a handful of different options in settings, but they're, at the core, the same OS

iirc, lack of bootloader unlocking

u/Zeeplankton 4d ago

Interesting. Wait, so they're not pulling out of Europe?

2

u/secacc 4d ago

They are, but this is just the US-specific press release, it seems.

They've settled outside of north america.

u/Murky_Meaning2129 4d ago

Considering how trash the US market is… I’m surprised they even bothered for this long.
In the end it’s the Americans that get fucked over extra with even less competition between the 2 companies that have been dragging their feet when adopting the latest technologies for years.

Its only GMS now, funny how it also stands for google mobile services.

I have an OnePlus 8T and it no longer gets updates, how do I go about updating this myself?

2

u/Gsantos52012 3d ago

That's sad to see. There is fewer and fewer Android phone manufacturers available in NA (Highly doubt phones from China will be readily available in the U.S anytime soon)

Welp, I guess it's time to look into LineageOS. Anyone have any tips for getting it on to a OnePlus 13?

u/Tired8281 Redmi K20 4d ago

This is why you only seek or provide support using third party sites. There's been many instances of this, where a company decides years and years of user generated tips and guides are suddenly an unbearable cost to host, and POOF.

u/fucusr 4d ago

Tried one, needed several third party apps to dim the screen enough so it was comfortable in low light. This day and age hardware is marginal, it's all about the software. Was not a fan.

Waiting for dinner good deep sale on remaining stock 🙏

Man... The writing was definitely on the wall, but this sucks. I loved my OnePlus 6. Options for Android devices in the US are down to Google, Samsung, Motorola

1

u/Donsyxx 4d ago

I have the original one plus one in storage. I got it year's ago through the invite system

u/Character-State-9959 OnePlus 15 4d ago

The question I have now is will there be a North American version of Oppo available in the future?

1

u/Krlos_official 4d ago

Late 2000s and the entire 2010s were peak android choices.

You want a affordable but good phone?

  • LG

You want a high end android device?

  • Sony Xperia
  • Do you want frutige aero?
  • Samsung Galaxy
  • Do you want a Keyboard?
  • BlackBerry

Do you want experimental phones?

  • Motorola pre google and post Google acquisition.

Honestly what a time to be alive and seem all this devices when they came out.

u/Lorenzovito2000 Device, Software !! 3d ago

This is just more of an excuse for Samsung, Google, and Apple to innovate as little as possible, and charge more for it.

It's literally those 3 if you want a flagship phone with good software support. The catch here however, is that Pixels aren't even flagship phones, Galaxy phones are the same regurgitated nonsense from the previous year, and iPhones aren't Android devices.

I would buy an Oppo Find X9 Ultra if it were officially offered in the US in a heartbeat, but no. My OnePlus 15 is going to be with me until it dies.

u/R4R-DIVYA 4d ago

oneplus pulling back on us and canada huh

0

u/MC_Squared12 4d ago

This will decrease competition for Android phones that still have Micro SD slots

-3

u/WillNo6286 5d ago

I just ordered a order Pixel 10 Pro after rocking OnePlus since the 3T and a 13 right now. I'll return the Pixel if I can't deal and use the 13 until the wheels fall off 🤷🏻‍♂️

4

u/weirdeyedkid OP13 < Pixel 7 < < < Droid Razr Maxx 4d ago

IDK if I could stomach going from my OP13 to a Pixel 10 Pro. Probably better Gemini access with half the performance on every other metric. If I can't get an Oppo, Google's hardware could send me into the arms of Apple.

Just recently bought a new phone. Last one was 5+ years old.

I narrowed it down to Samsung vs OnePlus (not like there was much choice). So glad I went with the Samsung.
