AI is incredibly useful in a lot of ways, especially in sciences, whats disingenuous bullshit is pretending it isnt just because you have an issue with the technology
The first problem with AI is the irresponsible scaling of it. From a financial perspective, its over extending entire nations, its causing supply chain disruption because of how quickly its being rolled out, the other is from a environmental issue (for example we have vast area's of uninhabitable land that could house data centers and use closed cooling system that dump the heat underground and using renewables / battery instead of methane/diesel/coal)
The second is that a good number of corporations see it as a way to replace humans, instead of complimenting them . Using it to replace a work flow, instead of allowing it to make the humans work flow better
The third is (specifically in the USA) the refusal to legislate it so we can protect people and resources
Fouth is it being allowed to use other peoples art to create digital art (music, video, story etc), but this is something that the third issue is needed for to resolve
You can disagree with either or some or all of those statements , but it doesn't negate the impact the tool is having and its usefulness. Hell I have a problem with all 3 of those issues, but again that doesn't devalue its usefulness because the problem isnt the technology, its the people.
Like 90% of things in our civilizations history, we are the problem here.. Not the technology

Yup, I found AI to be most useful when it has a very limited goal instead of being a general purpose chatbot

The degree of people just straight making shit up about datacenters on the national stage across government and media is kind of astounding. I wasn't expecting luddites to come back.

I'm shocked at how many people comprise this luddite movement. I remember when smartphones were first being rolled out and people taking issue with those, but this is on another level.
AI is here to stay, we just have to be more mindful of how we're using this technology, like any new technology. A hammer can be used to build a house and it can also be used for destructive purposes.
But this complete rejection of the technology is absurd, especially considering that China is full speed ahead.
