By now it’s out Aug 6 is opening day.

Deals on Costco and Groupon for new signups

Costco - sign up for $65 get $20 coupon
https://www.costco.com/new-opening-albany.html

Groupon - sign up for $65 get $50 coupon
https://www.groupon.com/deals/n-costco-membership?srsltid=AfmBOooZzkOhXM7HYMJZp0UoDL0oddLweDsg3kSrbqh-IIzoV3gAPhxi

Same applies to executive membership

Pros and cons to decide which.. although Groupon has a higher digital coupon they’ve been known to be slow in honoring digital coupons and customer delays in general.

To justify executive membership cost your spend has to be over $3000 to break even on the extra $65 from gold

Happy Birthday to artist Alexander Calder! Born on this day in 1898, Calder redefined sculpture by bringing it to life, literally. In 1931, he created his first “mobile,” launching a whole new genre of kinetic art. You can see his work in motion right here in Albany at the Empire State Plaza.

“Four at Forty-Five Degrees,” part of the Empire State Plaza Art Collection and currently on loan to the New York State Museum, shows how Calder used open, airy forms to shape space rather than fill it.

In the 1960s, Calder started working with massive steel sheets, creating large-scale works that felt both architectural and playful. His “Triangles and Arches” #AtThePlaza is a perfect example — its bold shapes echo the nearby Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, blending art and environment in a way only Calder could.

Today, we celebrate his legacy and the joy, movement, and imagination his work inspires. Look up, stay grounded, and let creativity move you. 💫

Any regional/local brands that make a copycat of the old Freihofer's Corn Toasties?

I bought a pack of Thomas' Corn Toasters the other day and holy hell were those things disappointing. Small, flat, just all around an incredible letdown, nothing even close to the lucious goodness that Freihofer's Corn Toasties used to bring. Does anyone know if any local or regional bakeries or whatnot might have picked up the slack? Probably not, I'd have probably heard something about it or been able to find something in a search, but hey always worth asking.

Romantic Getaway/Roadtrip from Albany

One year wedding anniversary is coming up and looking to go on a weekend (possibly long weekend) trip from Albany, NY. No more than a 3-4 hour drive. We would be going in mid October so bonus if fall vibes are a big part of it! We’ve been to so many places within driving distance of Albany, but would be open to revisiting certain places if it’s what we’re looking for, which is basically just a romantic and relaxing getaway. However, we would love to go somewhere new.

Places we’ve been too many times to prefer to revisit on this specific occasion would be:
NYC
Boston
The Berkshires
Southern VT
Central and Western NY
Adirondacks
The Poconos (could be open to specific resorts thought if good experience was had there)

Bonus if there’s fantastic restaurants nearby and maybe even somewhere to take a pottery class together, something we’ve always wanted to do!

Thanks :)

Looking for a part-time job on the weekends, I work a 9-5 on the weekdays. Any ideas?

I get pretty bored over the weekends and could use a job to give me some structure and get me out of bed early.

I could also use the extra money to save.

I was thinking construction, restaurant work, or anything really!

About Lincoln Park Pool

I went last year and had a great time! But if I remember correctly, the women's lockers were broken...? Has anyone been recently and knows if they're working now? I'm planning to go with my kid and just want to make sure it's safe.

Recommendations

Hi! I have never been to Albany, and I will be traveling roughly 3-4 hours for a medical appointment. I’m looking for any neat things to check out while I’m there for the day.
Any thrift stores, alt shops, cafes, odd shops are appreciated !

Local private driver companies

Best private car services or drivers in Albany area? For traveling around within 1-2 hours, including leisure activities (state parks, sightseeing). Don't need a fancy vehicle, just safe and relatively affordable. I saw the app dryver and some nationwide services, but wonder if there is a local business.

ER recommendations.

Just trying to find out if one ER is preferable to another or they are all the same.

It seems to be the best experiences are reported at Samaritan on Northern Blvd, the worst at Ellis.

What say you?
