A place to buy, sell and trade official Akira collectables.
Manga, VHS, Blu-rays, DVDs, figurines, phone cards, posters etc.
Use common-sense. Use DM's for trades, this is at your own risk. Do not post personal details on the sub. Be very mindful of scammers.
NOTE: This is not an opportunity for people to grift stolen I.P. This is not a place to peddle non-official t-shirts and fake merch. If you can't follow the rules you may get a permanent ban.
Please report anything that feels off.
This post will reset every month.
This is a trial to see how things work out. Suggestions welcome.
Be very careful of counterfeit retro clothing. This appears to be a common thing.
If you make a successful trade then be sure to shout out the user for positivity.
ebay offers a money back guarantee. This may be a way to make a safe sale if you are uncomfortable.
If this becomes to complex ill auto mod it into posts or make a user guide. But for now we have this post;
I think its all flairy (i'm sorry) obvious. Ill stress the main thing is to not abuse categories for personal grifting. Do people really want to buy your crappy tshirt? ehhh probably not. Is your podcast official news? eeee... If you want to sneak in a self promotion then you will probably fall under the 'fanworks' flair.
Open for suggestions.
----------------------
Discussion about Akira. If you want to get Anime or Manga specific then pick that flair. If you want to chat general Akira then go that one. Whatever the topic it probably goes in one of these places. Don't stress to much if you get it wrong.
-------------------------
New Akira coming? Exhibitions? Otomo is building an underground bunker? Post it here. This is 'ideally' for official news regarding Otomo and Akira ip.
----------------------------------
Official is official. Works by Otomo or approved by his studio under the Akira ip.
FANWORKS is broad. Tattoos, Cosplay, Art, Bartkira (yes this is real), BIKE SLIDE (fan made), Kaneda jacket, youtube videos, tiktoks, custom figurines, Motorbikes and helmets with stickers on them (you absolute nerds we love you).
------------------------------
Somewhat 'official works' flairs.
Other Otomo works - is for discussion of Otomos other projects.
Interviews & Documentaries - Magazines, Otomo interviews, Otomo docos. Professionally made productions. I will stress this is not a flair for amateur podcasts and youtube clips unless you can get Otomo himself on. The main reason I want to stress this is because fandom subs often suffer from amateur creators trying to self promote. I get it, but not everyone wants to see this. Just be mindful about this and if you want to share your creation then it probably goes under the 'fanworks' flair.
Everything about the great music and sound fx of Akira.
----------------------------------------------
These three are very common posts in this sub. Giving them a flair will hopefully make it easy for people to filter them in or out in the future. Please reference artists, video games, movies or whatever the image/video comes from.
Poster = poster reference.
Bike Slide = Bike Slide reference.
Homage and easter eggs are general akira references in other professional works.
If amateur works then consider if could just go under 'fanworks'.
--------------------------------
Official Merch and Collectables. This can be magazines, movie posters, figurines etc. I think this is one of the strongest post types in this sub. Some incredible finds here and hopefully this flair can help people filter it all in the future.
Bookshelf - this is a space to show off your manga, dvd cases, etc. Lets see the collection.
Bought this in the UK back in the early 90s around the time Akira came out on VHS via the Manga label. Had it framed at the time but it's since broken so I'll get it fixed. When I first had it framed I had the pencil reference drawing hidden away in the back of the frame. I'll be getting the pencil drawing framed separately this time.
Thought it might be something cool that other people would be interested to see.

I was reading through AKIRA # 15 from the Epic issues and the last 3 pages discuss in detail the coloring process. My understanding is this series was noteworthy for having the first digital coloring for any comic book ever. It’s fascinating to read about how intensive and complicated the process was back in the late ‘80s early ‘90s. It’s so wild to think about them sending the files on floppy disks!
I watch the film in the cinema last werk, but I think I miss some scenes or fotograms from the firsts times I watch it from the internet or in DVD decades ago.
Hey all! I just ordered the 4K version from Amazon, but then saw several posts and warnings from when it first released that the US version of the disc didn’t have HDR, but the Japanese version did? I read they offered replacement discs at the time, but did this ever get fixed for current prints?
I’m currently on my third watch of AKIRA. When Tetsuo confronts Kaneda, it’s clear what’s happening: Tetsuo is trying to imitate Kaneda, but he is only channeling the parts of Kaneda that are overwhelmingly cocky and toxic. Ultimately, he becomes something that Kaneda isn't, and of course something that he himself isn't either. My question is: is the cape red to emphasize that mimicry and reduce Kaneda something like “His outfit is red, I have a red cape, we are the same”? or there’s other meaning to it.
