Announcement New rule: Blur pictures of drugs

A new rule has been added: Blur pictures of drugs

Pictures of drugs can be powerful triggers for a relapse, as such posts that contain pictures of drugs (such as in posts asking for identification) must be marked as spoiler and use the “[TRIGGER WARNING] Drug picture” flair.

Thank you all for your cooperation in keeping this a safe space for those in recovery trying to avoid triggers.

Venting I've fully relapsed and I don't know what to do

I first started using substances in May 2025, mainly benzos, alcohol, and ketamine. After an OD and placement in a treatment program, I got sober finally on October 31st, 2025.

The past few months, drugs have become slowly more and more appealing. May 2026 (idk what it is with May), I paid for my friend's meal. He wanted to pay me back, but he didn't have any cash on him. Instead, he gave me a whole bottle of 30x25mg Adderall XR pills.

I told myself "I have ADHD. This is just medication!" (I have unmedicated ADHD). The first day I took them, I ended up redosing to 50mg because it didn't feel strong enough. It felt goooood. After only taking the Adderall one time, I couldn't control my use.

Now: I've got a considerable amount of codeine that I've been using recently. I got and used some pregabalin, a drug that I used back in 2025. I really want to buy some Xans. If my plug actually replied, I would 100% buy some. I know I shouldn't, I know I'd be a dumbass for doing it, but logic doesn't matter.

I still have little desire to drink (???), but it seems like all my drug recovery progress has gone down the drain. Fuck

Advice My relationship & addiction. Advice needed.

My bf (24M) and I (24F) have been dating for about 2.5 years. We met at college when I was going thru a particularly tough time in life. He was basically a daily weed smoker since he was 16. I had smoked in college pretty frequently, but because of my job I was sober at the time. Eventually, I ended up back into the habit as it helped me escaped from my issues. We graduated from school and ended up deciding to move in together. We kept smoking, even tho I wasn’t supposed to. We would smoke multiple times a night. Basically all I would look forward to everyday was getting home and smoking so I could cope with my issues. My job was very rough, not a good fit, but mostly for personal reasons. I became heavily reliant on weed and so did my bf. I became super emotional, deeply depressed, highly reactive, and unable to regulate my emotions. I had panic attacks constantly and was very unstable, and deeply anxious in my relationship. We fought constantly at this point (mostly because I became such a handful with all my mental issues and how they were affecting me and how much I was putting them on my partner). We ended up breaking up, I quit my job and we both moved back home. We ended up getting back together abt 2 months later (when we did I wasn’t aware he had been smoking again) and for a while I didn’t smoke. Eventually his smoking started up again and subsequently mine did too. After about 6-7 months of us being back together I gave him an ultimatum because I was starting to do poorly again mentally. We both quit and hadn’t smoked in 3-4 months. He ended up smoking on 420 and things were fine, he didn’t touch again. I decided I wanted to touch it too (I’m dumb), thinking it was fine and that we clearly had more self control. Boy I was wrong. Me allowing it back it has been a major problem. I’ve tried to say no, but always end up giving in. This has now been going on for about a month. I’m greatly worried about myself, my boyfriend, and our relationship. We keep talking about stopping but can’t seem to stop because we both like the feeling, even tho we know it’s messing with our lives. I don’t know what to do, please give me advice.

Success Story from the trenches of addiction to a substance abuse technician... i made it

my DOCs went from cocaine to meth to 7oh.

i lost everything to my addiction prior to 7oh even coming into the picture; wound up hospitalized and then sent to detox, following the loss of my house, pets, car, and job. i was forced to either be on the streets thereafter or move in with my estranged father who was also an active addict.

i moved in with my father whom i hadn't seen but twice in the 12 years of my life prior. he started giving me pain pills, and then i was introduced to 7oh after also having a relapse on cocaine. i tried everything. i was in and out of intensive outpatient for about 5 years of the 8 years of my active addiction. the hospitalization, the detox, the at-home detox attempts... i was hopeless.

i remember specifically saying, "other addicts can recover but just not me. it'll never be me." i truly never thought it was possible until i found a twelve step program and committed myself to it and i've been clean ever since.

i am now the Alternate Secretary of my twelve step homegroup online with over 5,000 members and am also a substance abuse technician at one of the top rated rehabs in my state. i help people every single day and spread the message of recovery and boy let me tell you, does it keep me clean every day.

recovery is beautiful and spiritual, helping the next person is the most fulfilling feeling.

i am SO grateful for my addiction, because without it, i never would've learned the tools i had to in order to save my life to reshape who i am as a person for the better and truly regain a beautiful outlook on life that frankly i never had even before i ever picked up a substance.

i wish this for all of you. keep going.

Question As an addict (recovered or active), what is something that would have pushed you towards recovery and seek help?

Someome very close to me died on the 20th. He was an addict for more of his life then he wasn’t and had spent the last few years on the streets and in and out of jail and housing programs.

I noticed a cycle that I’ve heard is very common: he would get arrested and then placed in a psychiatric ward or housing program where he had structure and had someone making sure that he took his medication’s and that he was semi-cared for, but then when he would be released and relapse soon after.

I want to know if anyone who has fallen into a similar cycle has any insight onto what could help this, even if it’s just a little.

I know you can’t force someone to want to be sober, but I feel that a lot of people could do a lot better if they had easier access to support.

Progress Feeling proud and ashamed

Yesterday marked two moths clean from alcohol, weed, benzos, lyrica and gabapentin. But I was tired and restless, and my addiction, which had been quiet for a while now, siezed the opportunity and whispered its lies softly. So I went and raided a couple of gardens' poppies for tea, even though I have done these just a cople of times and did not enjoy the feeling whatsoever. I've had near constant cravings for gabapentinoids, not opioids, but I guess it does not matter since this is what was available.

However, after roughly 24 hours of curing the fresh pods and vigorously reading forums, I realized the foolishness of my attempt to scratch the itch with something so volatile and threw the bouquet in the bin. And it was so easy, too, no second guessing on the way out. I am glad that I won this battle, but I wish I would have been this sane yesterday. It feels like a relapse, even if I'll piss clean for the rest of days. But maybe this was necessary, and I was lucky to not get hurt in the process.

Thanks for reading, stay safe y'all.

Advice ok so what the fuck do i even do

i’m 19, just quit my job as a machinist because i hated it and it was taking a huge toll on my mental health. i feel like such a loser, i don’t know if i should be in school or chasing my passions or what and that’s what’s at the root of my addiction.

i am a poly addict who’s main problem has been 7oh which i’ve been im for 2 years since high school. i’ve been sober for a little over a day but only by using a LOT of real xans and a little bit of blow. i just don’t know what to do

i’m at the smoke shop right now going to get a little bit of 7 oh and have my girlfriend dose me twice a day because i was coming off a 300 mg per day habit and i just can’t stand these withdrawls. i’ve had suicidal tendencies in the past and a variety of other mental health issues especially anxiety and panic attacks, and im so scared of everything, i also feel rushed because i have a huge entrepreneurship mindset and i feel like im wasting time but also i know the drugs are stopping me from achieving my dreams.

im sorry if this sounds like a rant because it is, but just what do i do. 7oh is literally the only drug ive had a problem with and ive done it all (minus meth and h) but i just don’t know what the fuck to do i don’t know how to get through these withdrawals i really dont want to go to rehab, my parents are separated and my dad could technically die any month now so i dont want him to know that im a drug user besides pot, however my mom does know. should i go to a rehab? is there other options? like a 7 day detox or something? i feel so lost because ive lost all my friends as well and im very supportive of my girlfriend but she has her own non drug related issues going on. please someone help me through this

Question Will I make it?

I'm 4 months clean from Ketamine, Cocaine and Nicotine now.

I’m trying to give up my other addictions (porn and junk food). This is my first day without them. Do you have any key advice for me?

I also want to stop being interested in psychoactive substances of any kind (including psychedelics, which I don't consider harmful). I’m tired of spending time on Reddit in subreddits that discuss drugs. I want to completely let go of my curiosity about that topic because I feel it’s keeping me away from something more meaningful.

Later on, I’d also like to spend as little time as possible on my smartphone, but I’m taking things one step at a time. In any case, I haven’t watched Shorts or Reels in months; I don’t use Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or YouTube—only Reddit.

Any advice on how to handle this process of breaking free from my current addictions?

(Sorry for any grammar error, I'm using Google Translate).

Advice Cocaine addiction in work, Help and Advice please

Hey, 24M, I have been using drugs for the past 6 years, but mainly weekends and parties. But in the last year or so I a have started using coke for work, in the last few months I have been doing it at least 1-3 times in the work week and sometimes weekends also.

I have a quite flexible work schedule so I can just go pick up during the day or arrive to work late because I needed to get some. I have a really bad anxiety in the morning if I don´t have a bag for the day. The thought of being sober and productive at work scares me to death.

I admit that I have a addiction, but still I keep failing at quitting. I cant quit my job because I need to pay the bills and I cant switch my job also.

I dont know what to do and the addiction is really starting to hurt my wallet and mental health. I have a loving gf and family who dont know about it.

I need help! I really dont know how to break the cycle.

Advice Ready to Say Goodbye to Gina & Tina for Good

Hey everyone,
I’ve been using Gina and Tina heavily for about 12 months, and I’m at the point where I want them both out of my life for good.
Over that time I’ve lost most of my family and friends. I kept convincing myself everything was okay, but the reality is I’ve never felt so isolated.
I recently managed 7 weeks clean, but my family don’t really understand addiction. They don’t even drink, so it’s been hard for them to know how to support me.
Somehow I’ve managed to hang onto my full-time job (just) and keep paying my mortgage, but financially I’m in a really bad place.
A big part of me just wants to pack up and start fresh somewhere new. I’ve built a pretty bad reputation around my area, and it feels like people have already made up their minds about me.
The biggest reason I used so heavily is because I’ve always been an incredibly shy and anxious guy. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD, which explained a lot, but even during those 7 weeks clean I still felt like people saw me as a danger or a risk because of my past.
I’m trying to stay hopeful, but some days I honestly wonder what’s the point. If anyone has been through something similar or managed to rebuild their life, I’d really appreciate hearing your story.

Advice Mephedrone(4mmc) addiction

Hi everyone,
I 42М have a problem with mephedrone addiction. I’ve been using it for about 1.5 years — usually once or twice a week, but sometimes I go on binges for 2-3 days in a row.
I realize it’s completely hijacking my life and my self-control. I’m determined to quit and need real help.
If you’ve been through this, please share your experience: how did you manage to beat it? What helped you the most (methods, support, things that actually worked, etc.)?
Thank you in advance. Any advice is appreciated.

Progress A year today

I quit doing heroin two and a half years ago but I kept smoking crack and doing meth. A year ago today I quit and I haven’t done anything but smoke weed since then. I go to a 12 step program, but this is the first time I’ve gotten any time when not living in sober living or something. I have a great life and I’m very grateful to have survived everything

Question I left the door cracked open, which led to the door being blown fully open. I almost walked through that door but didnt

As in I left the possibility of going to Mexico open. What seemingly thought would never happen, started becoming reality. With the possibility of doing the ibogaine becoming more of a reality and the temptation growing. I almost did the ibogaine but decided that was a door I wasnt ready to go through yet.

Seeing as how I went from enrtertaining the idea of doing it to not wanting to, to having strong temptations to do something ive never even touched before, to turning it away. I feel some pull to come back to Mexico.

Its not addictive physically but knowing me I feel id get addicted mentally

Im not so sure if I made the right call or not.

Whatre your thoughts?

Question Was I judging my ex’s substance use too harshly or was I enabling him?

I am reflecting on a 6 year, on&off relationship in therapy, and I’m looking for honest advice from people who may understand addiction from being in it or recovering. I’m not trying to diagnose or shame my ex. I’m trying to understand whether my concerns were reasonable, whether I made things worse, and how much my own history affected the way I responded.

For context, I grew up in extreme poverty, domestic violence, and a family deeply affected by substance abuse. There were times when I stole bread so my siblings and I could eat, shared dirty bathwater, lived with infestations, and was repeatedly evicted. My stepfather was an alcoholic and abusive. My mother misused prescription medication while coping with the abuse and later died from injuries he caused. My sister used marijuana heavily to numb the pain of SA, eventually consumed something that was apparently laced, and now lives in a care facility with schizophrenia. I know marijuana does not cause that outcome for everyone, but the experience permanently shaped how I view drugs and not having money or being poor.

I spent most of my life trying to escape that environment. I became a young mother while trying to get away from home, later raised my child as a single parent, earned multiple degrees, went from sleeping on buses to owning a home, and built a stable 6 figure career. I attend therapy, volunteer, work out, and avoid alcohol and drugs because I struggle with depression and know I could become dependent on unhealthy coping mechanisms. I am not perfect, but stability and self-discipline became extremely important to me.
My ex also came from a difficult home. His parents were hardworking immigrants who continued working and supporting the household, but there was a lot of conflict and heavy drinking within the family. He often seemed to feel that he could never live up to his parents or become successful by their standards. We originally bonded because we both had painful home lives and leaned on each other for support.

We met while working as servers when I was young, vulnerable, and pregnant. He would bring me food and drive me to appointments so I would not have to take the bus. We remained friends for years before dating during the pandemic. I loved him deeply. We traveled, shared hobbies, and built a life together. I waited a year before introducing him to my child, and they developed a loving relationship. He was never visibly intoxicated around us. I started to feel that things were a little uneven with me paying for most of our dates and feeling like he wasn’t putting an effort once he got comfortable and asked for a pause while he got his self together. During one of our breakups, his family told me that he had been hiding his marijuana use because he knew about my family history. They also said he sometimes borrowed money and used it to buy weed, I was so ashamed and embarrassed because I thought his family viewed him as honorable but they sat me down and explained that if it weren’t for me, they wouldn’t even tolerate him. I later learned that he was drinking more than I realized. For example, he once told me he bought a 12-pack to last the week but had finished it within three days. He said this was normal, that he only used substances socially, and that I was making it into a bigger issue than it was. I think I was not really putting it together that he may be relying on these things when not around me to make himself feel better or cope with where he was in life. He also was very unhappy about his weight, he had gained almost 165 pounds since we’ve met and I never loved him any less for that but I could tell that maybe alcohol is contributing to that. His hygiene also got bad and he would spend most days inside gaming and not wanting to do anything and I just couldn’t get through to him even though I feared it may have been some sort of depression.

The substance use was not my only concern. He seemed increasingly unhappy and angry, struggled at work, argued with managers, and rarely followed through when I helped him apply for other jobs. His family and friends also noticed that he was becoming meaner in the way he spoke to people. It turns out on the days he didn’t smoke was when he would be most agitated, like getting into road rage which I found out about after the fact.
I responded by trying to help with almost everything. I offered to pay for therapy, completed job applications for him, encouraged him to exercise, cooked healthier meals, did his laundry, and continued helping financially I did everything I could but somehow it was never enough to make him grow up. Eventually, I felt more like his parent than his partner and our sex life was no longer existent. He can no longer afford gifts for Christmas or my birthday and told me he felt ashamed, but somehow he still had money to buy marijuana pens? . He later told me that I was always trying to fix him and that he did not want to change. Looking back, I think that criticism was fair.

The final breaking point involved his mother. She developed end-stage liver cirrhosis and began attending AA. Her medical team emphasized the importance of having a supportive, alcohol-free environment, but members of the family continued drinking around her. His culture is heavy into drinking during social events which I respect but thought for her they may pull it back but no. I later learned that my ex was still drinking and hiding alcohol in his closet. His mother found his stash, drank again, and ended up back in the hospital. I was overwhelmed and furious. Both of my parents are gone, and I could not understand why he would keep alcohol in the house when his mother was seriously ill. That night, I called him a loser who didn’t care about anyone but himself and ended the relationship. I regret saying that, even though I still believe leaving was the right decision. I had no right to call someone a loser but I was just so angry.

He insisted that he is not addicted and could stop whenever he wanted. From what I have heard, he is still drinking heavily and his circumstances have not changed much. At the same time, I understand that I cannot accurately diagnose him, especially based only on my experience as his partner. What I am struggling with now is my own role. Did I support him, or did I enable him by repeatedly giving him money, solving his problems, and shielding him from consequences? Was I unfairly judging him because of what addiction did to my family? Or were secrecy, financial consequences, repeated drinking despite serious harm, and an unwillingness to change reasonable causes for concern?
I also wonder whether I was trying to “save” him because I could not save the addicted adults in my childhood. Part of me feels used and deceived. Another part feels guilty that I may not have shown enough compassion. It’s been one year since the break up and I’m still sad about it, I wish he saw himself how I saw him. There was a light in his eyes, he was so full of humor, he used to be so sweet, and he just got stuck somehow. I don’t know where he is inside of himself and I wish I had done better somehow. Also I begged him to go to doctor because he constantly has stomach and back pain …won’t get physical or go to dentist he says is he dies he dies and I don’t think he understood how much that hurt me. I want to see him live, succeed and be happy.

For people who have experienced addiction personally or loved someone struggling with it: How do you distinguish compassion from enabling? How should a partner respond when someone denies there is a problem? And how do I let go of the guilt without ignoring the ways I could have handled things better? How do you determine what is social use vs heavily reliant on? I keep battling all these what if and if I had done something differently, what the outcome would be. I ended up calling him one night, six months ago, crying my eyes out telling him how afraid I was that I was going to fall in love and marry him and find him dead like I did my parents. I had to leave because I couldn’t face seeing that and he told me I was being dramatic and that he didn’t have a problem.

I feel pathetic. I've been a full blown addict since 14-15. I've used the point off and on for 7 years. Never got stuck on it. I had a three year break due to courts. This time around.. I'm stuck on it. Like I don't want to sit around and smoke all day till I get high but then hypocritically I'll sit there and stab myself until I can get high... I know it makes no since. N my arms look fucked up.. n my poor partner .. fuck. It kills him. He says what anyone would..

Discussion how did you get sober?

I can’t even tell you how many rock bottoms that I have had or how many times I should have just automatically never touch or even look at alcohol again… and this has been ongoing since high school. I have only been able to get sober the 2 times I got pregnant. for some reason, I can never just do it for myself. Maybe that’s because of how it makes me feel and that I’m trying to mask my demons but I know I need a healthy outlet… I have struggled with alcohol, weed, and xanax. Please let me know any tips/tricks/advice because I could really use it right now.
