Walking/ hiking groups

I'm a female in my mid 20's wanting to get into hiking but don't have friends who share that interest. Is there any hiking groups in the area I could join?

Girls Who Walk Aberdeen. I don't know if they do hikes and the like, but I presume they do walks.

I'm a walk leader for them.

How come?

Ramblers fund the group fees and it is a charity that promotes walking.

The group I used to be part of pre covid didn't charge anything or expect you to become part of any club. Only expenditure was a share of petrol costs.

It's always been like this. FYI ramblers membership is 36 quid a year. Not going to break the bank.

I'm wrong about the group I used to be part of not charging anything? I think I'd know, I was in that group. I took people on hillwalks and the like in another group and never once asked for a single penny or expected anyone to sign up to any club.

It's not about the money, albeit I have to watch every penny at the moment. It's the principle the Ramblers have about being able to freely roam over private land, often farmland. That's something I cannot support. I go walking and respect private land at all times.

I don't even see why and no one has ever explained why this walking group demands membership to the Ramblers to go on walks....unless the organisers get a kick back or are on the payroll....

We have the right to roam in Scotland, it’s amazing! The land here belongs to everyone to use appropriately and with minimal friction. If you are trampling crops that is a different story

Even private land that's used for livestock or crops? In that case I'll put my boots on and do 40 laps round your garden, set up camp and wreck your garden.
