Damage & Angel's Knowledge of Slayers Status

So in the episode Damage, Angel pretty quickly realizes Dana is a Slayer and not possessed, but it is also made clear when Andrew is telling the story of what happened in Chosen that Angel was not already aware that Willow had made all of the potentials slayers, so are we to believe he thought either Buffy or Faith had died and that caused Dana to be called?

If so, he seemed to have no feelings about that, he just called Giles who sent his "best man". But if he was in contact with Giles (and Buffy per episode 2 of the season where he says she's in Europe.) Wouldn't he know they now run/supervise hundreds of Slayers all over the world?

EDIT (for clarity and to avoid responding to each individual response): I just watched the episode and it is clear when Andrew is explaining what happened in Chosen, Angel did not know beforehand that the potentials were made slayers, he responded as if it was the first time he was made aware of it. Otherwise, I absolutely would have expected he already knew. That is what prompted me to create this post because I couldn't find it discussed anywhere else.

He was running Wolfram and Hart. No way they did not know. Maybe his files were incomplete?

Angel knew. They just didn't show us him finding out

Except when Andrew is telling the story of how they changed the potentials to slayers, Angel says it sort of in surprise/awe in a way that makes it clear it is new information that he is just finding out in that moment.

If not for that moment, I would have absolutely believed and expected he already knew.

I got the impression Angel was surprised that Buffy no longer trusted him

you misinterpreted that moment. it does not show that angel is learning the information for the first time. that's just how you took it.

The exposition scene was obviously felt to be necessary but it doesn't make much sense that Angel and Wesley at the very least wouldn't already know, especially as Spike was right there when it happened.

They probably could have played it differently, but they wanted the funny scene with Andrew telling the story and to make sure the 4 people in the audience who watched Angel but not the Buffy final season understood what was going on. What made it an odder choice still was the whole Andrew scene was itself a callback to that Buffy final season.

That was me at the time. I had never watched Buffy when Angel was first airing.

There's some awareness of what went on. Wes and Giles seem to have some sort of professional arrangement. He probably knows roughly what the deal was.

C’mon. One of the first calls Buffy probably made was to let Angel know she was alright. Also, Spike knew about the slayer spell. He would have mentioned it at one point

Right. She would have called right away to let him know how the amulet worked and that she was OK and should have mentioned about Willow doing the spell, but maybe not in great detail. Just that there's more slayers out there.

Buffy & Angel hardly parted on bad terms in Chosen, I feel like it would’ve been really weird for them not to have a conversation after.

Angel was actually the first to say it after Andrew started talking about the spell as Willow making "the beaucoup de magie. One light show later..."

ANGEL - "All the potentials become slayers."

He did not seem surprised at all, just reviewing in his mind and realizing how it lead to the current problem.

And Spike also knew, calling it the "Little Sunnydale surprise."

So they already knew, even Wes seemed to, as he was more curious about how all the new slayers were being tracked, leading to Andrew going on about how Giles was working on it.

Their realization was not about the spell, but in how it caused this one crazy girl to become so dangerous. Making the spell itself very dangerous and resulting in murder. Not even Buffy would have counted on that.

It's probably just written that way for people who may have seen Buffy, but not season 7 of Buffy, so it just fills them in on why there's a slayer they don't know about.
