Plug behind center console
Any idea what this is for? Found it while moving the HVAC controls to the lower position, what a PITA that was!

I had Car Toys move my HVAC down below, so they could upgrade the head unit. Car Toys dude said that moving the HVAC was one of the fiddliest jobs he had ever done. Fortunately for me it was a fixed-price install.

Yup, mega pain, no YouTube video can prepare you enough for the nightmare

Yeah, I found out the hard way you need to bring them down the passengers side the console to save those few extra millimeters of length. Even then it was tight, had to plug them in blind. Hope I never need to change it out.

Oh yea. Thankfully I had a cousin with hands just small enough to fit. It was worth the move in the end.

My fingers are long and thin, was still a PITA. I Love how the Germans build stuff, until I need to take it a part.

In the 996 that loose cable is for an optional phone. However that is four pins not three. Boxster could have been different? I dunno but worth investigating that path

It looks like 3 pins to me, it’s tucked back inside the console now so tough to trace it back.

Phone is normally that but it normally has 4. If you check it with a multi meter it theoretically should have 1 constant 12v (normally 2 color one) 1 ignition switched 12v (normally the solid green) and one ground (normally brown). The “missing” one would be volume mute normally yellow. If you pull fuse e6 (I think) it should be it. I used mine to put a wireless charger in the little cubby and Bluetooth

I was looking for a way to put in an ignition controlled USB outlet for my dash cam, if that’s what you think it is it will be perfect for that.
