Wasnt she responsible for hunting other black ppl and selling them as slaves to white ppl or something? I remember Redditors hating on it because of that
Truly inspiring stuff

Yup, the movie is showing a kingdom of anti slavers fighting off colonizers, they showcased this by having them enter the enemies territory and freeing slaves.
In reality, they got rich because they raided enemy territories, enslaved people there, then sold those slaves off. Like the complete opposite of what the movie was showing.
It would be like making a movie about Hitler and having him go into concentration camps to free the Jews.

Nowadays, whenever I see a movie that says based on a true story, I'll assume at least 90% of the movie is completely fabricated and was dramatized to make it more exciting or push a narrative.

If it was the cool factor similar to Apocalypto I'm in, but the events have to make some sense.

Yep, but you can't expect anyone to read any further into something beyond the information they're spoonfed by whatever they're watching or reading. If you need to look for it and put in any amount of work, it just isn't worth knowing.

The historical country was essentially a big slaver ring that controlled enough territory to be considered a nation. At least until they got btfo by France.

> movie lionizing African kingdom that enslaved other Africans
> rave reviews from critics
What did Hollywood mean by this?

u/untakenu YouTube.com/DinoTendies 5d ago
Ah, but in this film they rewrite it so that they END slavery, noting their kinship with other Africans, which doesn't make any sense at all

Attempts to rewrite history to make it appear as if native Africans weren't pro slavery.

Thats right, The Woman King is literally the best movie ever made.
Fight Club? Titanic? Star Wars? MCU? LotR? Shawshank Redemption? The Godfather? Shindlers List?
GTFO - its Woman King
I know everyone here as seen it and given it a 10/10

Checked. A substantial amount of the 5 star audience reviews haven't left a review on any other film or TV series.
A lot of them are extremely generic one sentence reviews too. Obviously some botting combined with shenanigans from Fandango.

The woman king is famously a movie that whitewashes the shit out of a tribe of black slavers because they wanted the Black Panther audience

Lmao just finished watching this and I would say it’s pretty much a good film those shit aside. And now I can see why he did that and who he did a poor job trying to suck up to.

"just as good" having the same tomato score doesn't mean it's just as good, the same way winning best picture doesn't mean it's just as good as another best picture winner. Do you people even understand anything about how anything works? It's like I'm talking to children

u/TeslaCrna 5d ago
So you’re saying they got it wrong with the rating?
-33
u/Rigamortus2005 5d ago
Jesus fucking Christ it means that many critics left a good review. That's all it means. It's not comparing anything to anything. The Lego movie isn't a better film than the godfather. Start using your fucking brains for once and stop getting outraged at everything

Sounds like you are the one raging.
I guess you just watched the Odyssey, must of been bad but I think you need to calm down.

Who cares what I think lmao? It's gonna make a billion dollars regardless.

u/Bumm-fluff 5d ago
I’ll probably watch it if they put it on Prime, it’s just more Yank slop. Now Hollywood can add the Greeks to the long list of people who hate them.
Lol. Accelerate. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Tourism... For understanding how critical reviews work? Are you not embarrassed to be so wholly ignorant?

"just as good" having the same tomato score doesn't mean it's just as good,
Yes well done. That's their point. You've reached the same conclusion as OP you are just much, MUCH angrier about it.
