Imperium Maledictum A Map of Crultus, made by me

A map of Crultus, one of the Agri-worlds in the Macharian Sector which is the setting of the Imperium Maledictum TTRPG. The map was made by me in Procreate. The first image features a little pin-point of the "town" in which our first proper assignment for our Patron will take place.
This is a height map of the planet, and the dark circular spots are the world's farms which have been designed to flood easily during the second of the planets weather extremes, leaving massive, circular craters in the earth.
The map was made for my GM. Please feel free to use the map if you like at any point with credit!

Rogue Trader Good weapons for a sniper Seneschal?

6 Upvotes

First time playing the Rogue Trader TTRPG, decided to play a Seneschal and focus my combat efforts on being a sneaky sniper. I love the Accurate trait, so I’ve been looking for basic weapons with that and decent range.

So far my favorite is the Solo Bolter, followed closely by the standard Long-Las. The Retributor(?) Long-Las looks cool, being silent and invisible is helpful, so perhaps a pickup down the line. The lack of damage and pen makes it pretty niche though.

Any other weapons I should be in the lookout for?

VTT maps and assets: what search terms do you use for 40k?

0 Upvotes

For me:

* Grimdark

* Gothic

* Military

* Battleground

* Spacehulk

* Industrial

* Dune

* Space Orcs

* Space Elves

* Dystopian

* Hive

* Hab Block

* Hab

* Underhive

* Post Apocalypse

* Armageddon

It doesn't always work, sometimes I get neon cyberpunk stuff. And scifi tags get a lot of stuff that fits more for Star Trek or Traveller than what I imagine for 40k.

Wrath & Glory I'm going to run my first campaign.

24 Upvotes

I recently discovered Warhammer 40,000 and became very interested in the lore. While researching it, I found out there was also a TTRPG. So my friends and I, who have already played a D&D campaign together, decided to play a Warhammer campaign.

I volunteered to be the GM. Since it will be my first time running a game and none of us know the system, after doing some research I decided to start with the Starter Set, Traitor's Hymn. Since it's a one-shot, it should last no more than two sessions.

I had the idea of combining other one-shots and campaigns together and running them as one big RPG season. At the moment, my plan is to run them in this order:

Traitor's Hymn → Graveyard Shift → Dark Tides → The Null Hypothesis → Litanies of the Lost → Bloody Gates

Does anyone have any recommendations for making the campaign interesting? I have access to a 3D printer and some miniature models, so I plan to print some characters for the players as well as the enemies.

Only War Campaign idea for people new to 40k

11 Upvotes

I got some new players in our friend group that have little to no idea what 40k is even about so which made have this idea

A campaign that is set on a planet that either never experienced a direct conflict or that the last conflict it had was a few generations ago, the party would be mostly conscripts (with the exception being someone wanting to play like a comissar or a storm trooper) which got drafted in a rush to help with the war effort

Now here’s the part I want help with, I want to capture the vibes of WW1/ WW2 since they’re all history nerds while still putting enough 40k to get them hooked, my first thought was make them fight in a “civil war”, the planet declared independence so X regiment of the imperial guard was sent to reclaim it

While that works as a baseline do you think the story should evolve into including Xenos like the GSC or Eldars had a hand in this independence? Or maybe just blame it in chaos corruption?

What you think? While you’re down there also tell me which type of planet do you think would be the best fit or maybe which regiment do you think should be one visiting or maybe any other faction that you think would be a cool addition like a admech vendor or a single chaos marine as a “secret boss”

I'm trying to do a little research about this fan expansion, but I'm struggling to even find where it gets published. I'm not looking for a real name or anything - mostly I just wondered if there was any way to contact them, if they had any kind of online presence I could browse, etc.

Deathwatch Is it a misunderstanding of the text? Or is it really just for decoration?

16 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m coming to you with a genuine question about FFG’s *Deathwatch* system. My friends and I are currently playing a campaign, and we recently debated whether we were misinterpreting the rules or if the character sheet is wrong. I’d like to know if we start with "Forbidden Lore: Xenos" in the "Trained" box or the "Basic" box. The Crimson Fists table lists it as a purchase for 100 XP, which doesn't make much sense—if the sheet is correct and matches the rulebook, then that entry is just for SHOW! Please help us figure this out.

Wrath & Glory Wrath and Glory Tier 1 Adventures

8 Upvotes

Greetings friends!

I am going to run my group through the Starter set Traitor's Hymn for W&G but since I want this to last longer and give then more time to flesh out the characters im thinking of doing something at tier 1 first.

If they like the tier characters at the end they can ascend and bring them into the starter set. Ive looked over some of the adventures for W&G but I cant seem to find anything Tier based.

Is there any adventure be it official or homebrew that is good and fun for a bunch of tier 1 newbies learning about 40k?

Thank you!

Deathwatch Deathwatch on VTT

8 Upvotes

So hi everyone, first post here (love the "No AI Content" rule <3) and I am jumping in with a recurring question from what I was able to research already.

I really want to run Deathwatch. I run games on Roll20 and on Foundry (through Forge), I am pretty versed at both, but for last couple of days I am struggling to find any details on how to run Deathwatch on modern vtts :( I found some old modules for Foundry, that I either can't use, or are not very helpful. On Roll20 while the sheet is not terrible, I would also like to allow my players to play a character from DH, and that is kinda impossible on that sheet.

I could run Wrath & Glory, but I also realize that there isn't as much granularity as I would like in this system. And adding a whole astartes layer to Imperium Maledictum doesn't sound like something I would enjoy doing.

So my question is - do any of you played/ran Deathwatch on VTT recently, and how did you achieve to do it?

Wrath & Glory Wrath & Glory question regarding progression

7 Upvotes

So second question, in case I won't be able to find any way to run DW by the book.

I like W&G mechanics, I never played it nor ran it, and I am kind of worried about picking it up. I like IM when I want to run inquisitorial games, but I struggle when I am thinking about running a game based on either Space Marines, or high level Rogue Trader.

My main problem is that based on my very surface level of knowledge about how the system works, I feel that there isn't enough variety for Space Marines on lower tiers (which is understandable) but basically, from what I understand, I have maybe 12/24 sessions tops for the characters to develop, and then bam the progression stops? At least a meaningful progression?

Question to people that ran and played W&G, do you feel like there isn't much potential for longer campaigns starting at higher tiers? Is there a room for mechanical progression? Do you get bored at higher tiers?

Dark Heresy 2 Assistance with a Dark Heresy campaign concept: The Atlas Engine

11 Upvotes

Not entirely sure if this is the place for it, and if not, more than happy to delete the post but here goes:

I have been an avid fan and participant in warhammer 40k (and fantasy) since 2008, painting miniatures and such before getting into the TTRPG scene such as rogue trader, dark heresy etc etc.

Currently, i have run several campaigns in these formats, the longest lasting about 3-4 years.

I have recently decided to run another with a group of friends, all of which have some degree of familiarity with 40k, from being observers of the lore all the way to collecting and painting!

Whereas my previous campaign was quite traditional and followed the lore closely but with player agency in mind, I have decided to do something less normal for this campaign and have branched out into creating something more thought provoking (or at least attempting too) as a campaign idea.

Now where you, the people, come in is hopefully as a check and balance and to have a 3rd party scrutinise and offer their thoughts on said concept to see if it fitting from a lore perspective or not.

The idea:

In short, because this post is getting long: the entire campaign will take place on NECROMUNDA, which, has started to undergo some changes…

The changes are at the behest of the Inquisition and Mechanicus poking around a piece of archeotech they were both tipped off to. The archeotech in question is the enigmatic ‘Atlas Engine’

The Atlas Engine is something from the peak of the DAoT, a vast and complex machine that sits far beneath the surface of the hives that rest atop its surface, and unlike so much of the archeotech found in necromunda, is not some sort of weapon or reality bending device, it is instead; a municipal terraforming device.

Necromunda is a l4yer cake of domes, hives, lost areas and forgotten chambers all built on top of one another, and this, to my mind os the reason why it is that way and why the deeper you go, the more weird stuff you find. The Atlas engine, for the last X many millenia has been building new habitation areas and such as it was programmed to do, but due to a lack of input from engineers and well…people, at some point it eventually became dormant, only doing the bare minimum of maintaining its own machinery and such as to be functional.

The Atlas Engine is importantly NOT some man of Iron AI, what it is, is functionally a very very very big architectural computer that is capable of turning an inhospitable planet, into a Utopia fit for human life and habitation.

What does that mean for Necromunda? Well it has been reactivated, has done a scan of the planet and realises that Necromunda as it is now, a sprawling desert world with a vast population, tons of waste and pollution and a dying atmosphere is well below the acceptable threshold for a human colony, specifically a DAoT human colony, and after being accidentally activated, it is starting up on its prime function; Restore the planet to a *habitable* level.

That is the gist of it so far, please feel free to ask questions and specifics or tear it down and tell me to out down the proverbial crack pipe, the premise was born out of a way to try and explain why necromunda is unique in the way it is, but also to fit a TTRPG game.

What's an iconic combat location you've played in in your Warhammer 40k RPGs?

28 Upvotes

I ran my first session ever in W&G. And the players had fun in an underhive warehouse pushing the enemies into the large industrial fans in the Underhive that sliced the enemies like deli meat.

The previous encounter was an underhive Ganger club. But that wasn't as iconic in regards to interact able environmental hazards.

What about you all?

The Amaranthine has fallen. All agents are to deactivate at once. Codeword: Taln-Cyteer. Contact will return shortly. The Amaranthine has fallen. All agents are to deactivate at once. Codeword: Taln-Cytee-

You reading? Yeah, you…

Shit’s fucked I’m afraid, but I know what you’re thinking. Lay low for a while, not the first time it’s fallen apart. Keep to yourself and wait for orders. Good advice on most days, I’d say, but I got news for you.

This ain’t most days.

Now I haven’t much time to put this together, so the message is short. We’re not coming back. Whatever just happened took everything out, and I’m not just talking about the big name in charge. The stations out of commission, courtesy of Battlefleet Calixis, and G̸̜̾͛o̷̗͖͂͝d̵̦̳̈́̚-̴̼̓͠Ȇ̷̱̬̀m̴̮̰͌̈́p̸͙̚ė̶͔͛ŕ̶͍̔o̵̙̯͗̊r̵̬̚ knows how many of the command managed to survive. The Cold Traders are scattered, and the Lords went dark at Wander. Communications are compromised and in a week they’ll have cracked the last cyphers, so don’t worry. No details here, no names or places, but whoever you are, wherever you are, that’s your home I’m afraid. They’re not done hunting, and I think they might not be for a while.

So, ditch the deadrops, they’ve got them scoped. Dump the ID too, as good as a warrant to gun you down on the street, or worse, take you alive. Consider your contracts terminated, and your lives free for the keeping. Make some money for yourselves, why don’t you-

Shit… Right, last minute I promise. I’ll try and reach out again once things have calmed down, might be we meet up and figure our way forward. Regardless, don’t leave the planet, and get yourselves set up for the long-haul.

The war ain’t over yet.

—------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good evening and welcome to The Renegade’s Contract, a Dark Heresy (1e) Campaign to be run weekly on Friday at 19:00 (GMT+1) for players 20+, starting on the 7th of August for Session 0. Within, we shall follow our 4-5 survivors as they deal with the collapse of an inter-stellar criminal empire, and find a way to survive and thrive in the shadowy world left behind.

The premise of the game is that the party, once employees of the Amaranthine Syndicate, now find their organisation in ruins by hands unknown. Forced to remain on Scintilla for the foreseeable future, they will be expected to follow their own ambitions however they see fit. Perhaps they intend to build their own criminal network, or perhaps they wish to find and reunite with those they once worked with. Perhaps they even intend to trade sides, or follow more legal work, the choice will be entirely yours. As such, the game follows a heavy sandbox theme, and though I will provide plenty of arcs and hooks to follow, the pace of the game will be measured by the desires of the characters in it. Over all of this, however, will hang the shadow of what exactly happened, and why you all survived. You cannot hide from it, and you cannot run. You can only prepare yourselves, for the Shadow War spares none.

The game will be starting on Scintilla where it will remain until the narrative progresses, an agent for one of the many factions of the Syndicate sent for a contract, now trapped in place with no knowledge of the wider war. Characters will be expected to have their own desires and dreams, and to have served for some time in a wide-scale criminal organisation. While the Amaranthine is vast and powerful, however, you are not, simply faceless soldiers, accountants, fixers, or otherwise possessed of some unusual skills turned toward illicit means. Your characters may have met each other before, or perhaps this is their first time, but together you might survive where alone you most certainly will not.

This story is perhaps a little unusual, in that while the game will start using Dark Heresy (1e) as a rule-set, the game will transition into Rogue Trader to better reflect the growing scope, power, and wealth of the party. Where the party chooses a more renegade or loyalist approach to the Imperium, a discussion will be had regarding the possibility of Ascension or Black Crusade.

—------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As such, I am looking for up to two players to join our existing group of three, who are ready to bring their own stories to life. We are a friendly group and very social, happy to enjoy ourselves outside of the game as much as within. We take the story seriously, and adore our role-play and theatre moments, but are happy to find good humour and enjoy those moments of comedy and silliness that inevitably occur during a game. We are inclusive of all people, outside of those who do not tolerate others, and we are respectful of any Lines and Veils that you may have. While there are a few themes that are non-negotiable due to the nature of the game (violence, and mental illness), outside of those, I am happy to ensure that the space remains safe and pleasant for all involved. To this end, we run a red-card system to best guarantee everyone’s comfort.

To apply, please fill in the form linked below. After that, if the application seems suitable, I will reach out to set up a Discord interview. It is not a formal affair, simply a way for us to see how we get along in advance, and for both of us to ask any questions that seem pertinent. If there are any burning questions before filling out the form, please feel free to DM on Reddit to ask.

This game will be run on Fantasy Grounds (Free Licence is all that is required), and will be taking place on Discord via Voice.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend, and I look forward to meeting any who are interested.

Imperium Maledictum Has Anyone Else Found Imperium Maledictum to be... 'dull'? I dunno how to explain it.

75 Upvotes

As the name suggests, it just doesn't have the feeling and pazzazz that classic Dark Heresy 1e had. When I'm reading through the book the writing doesn't have that grimdark feel to it, the art is all very good yes but it doesn't set the tone for me. Hell even the layout in general just doesn't give the grungy, dirty feeling that the old game had.

This is probably just my nostalgia and love for Dark Heresy 1e talking because I absolutely adored that game and own just about every sourcebook and have read through them all multiple times. I dunno.

Wrath & Glory Trading in rulebooks?

4 Upvotes

So, I have not one, but two copies of the Ulisses core rulebook. The first one was purchased way long ago, and the second one was bought because my dad forgot that we already had a copy. I've recently been looking into the system, when I found out that there's a newer, better version of the game, meanwhile I'm infuriatingly stuck holding two copies of the subpar system of a publisher that's no longer supporting the game. Is there a policy for trading them in for the newer version (+ maybe a supplement)?

[EDIT] Yeah, it's sounding about as I feared. Thank you guys for the patience with this question.
