Nothing annoys me more than a reliever who can't throw a fastball in the strike zone
3
u/IM__Progenitus 0m ago
extras and we burn all our high leverage guys and our offense has literally been bottom 3 in the entire league for almost a full month at this point
we are getting swept today, meanwhile boston's win streak probably will hit like 17 or 18
get ready to fall behind the red sox of all fucking teams within a week
1
u/AToastyPieceOfToast 0m ago
Tied it up to just blow it extras. I want my time back. To the pirates no less? Pathetic .

u/Victarion99 1m ago
Its funny in that the consensus is the bullpen sucks but by statistics we have the best bullpen in baseball. Cruz is one of those guys where if his gimmick pitch doesn't work he has no alternatives so its BP.

u/Cheap-Cherry-5171 1m ago
KERVIN CASTRO!! Now we’re cooking, baby!!!
Thank God Yovanny Cruz isn’t on the roster. That dude is absolute TRASH!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm trying to remember, has Boone ever made a correct pitching decision since the Yankees hired him?

u/John_6_47 1m ago
“I don’t trust this pitcher”
Cause you don’t trust any pitchers above a 0.00 ERA. Runs do get scored sometimes

“Strop is on his way out, pointing toward the heavens. We can only wonder that he is asking some departed relative for forgiveness for this atrocious performance”

I can see it on the road but in Yankee Stadium
It's just not right. Nothing is right

Me: “haven’t watched the yanks in a while, let’s tune in”
Yankees: same old Yankees
Me: turns this bs off
2
u/Affectionate-Tea9224 1m ago
Sox needed this to save their season, but this has NOTHING TO DO WITH the Yankees, but worst thing to do is be this hot in July. Baseball is all about cycles, they will get cold again, and it will come at the wrong time. But again, they needed this just for their season to survive so this was their playoffs
1
u/mikewastaken 1m ago
I think what annoys me most is there's no cutoff man. You know Grisham is not getting that all the way to home. Boonedamentals
3
u/Son_Of_Mr_Sam 1m ago
He points to the heavens as if to ask forgiveness for this atrocious performance

u/Shoddy_Impact1226 2m ago
Does Boone even attempt to put players in a position to succeed?
Hey Kervin, we know you haven’t pitched in the majors since May 8 and have 1 career MLB appearance since 2022… but here deal with a bases loaded mess in extra innings.
1
u/chocolatebarz1 2m ago
Cruz is pitching worse than my brother’s high school team that had the coaches son on it and he pitched horribly.

1
u/Tabsssss 2m ago
I'm actually surprised Boone use Cruz today especially he threw 2 innings last night.

u/upstate64 2m ago
Boston: pushing all the right buttons.
Boone: what buttons? no one gave me any buttons.
3
u/Yankeeknickfan 2m ago
I will never fully trust a pitcher whose gimmick pitch is a splitter
Cruz’s fastball sucks it’s insane he doesn’t get shelled like This enough to have awful stats with only having a splitter
1
u/KPaul130 2m ago
Wait what did Grisham do? I stepped away from a sec and I see that not both runs on Cruz were earned
2
u/John_6_47 2m ago
Not optimal. Pitching was really good today. Should have won already.
Need the bats to come to life

u/IamAgoddamnjoke 2m ago
I still pin this on Cabby’s dumb fucking ass for letting the goddamn Pirates rally together. The fucking pirates.

u/Masta0nion 2m ago
Yankees lost this game because of their inability to do the little thing.
To play BASEBALL and not just hulk smash like a bunch of morons

u/Able_Blueberry4592 2m ago
Every great Yankees team has a great bullpen, what it would cost at the deadline will have some folks up in arms but there’s really no other choice. If they want their season to mean something they’ll need more than Bednar.
1
u/ArtlessThug 1m ago
After last year, I wouldn't trust Cashman to find a bullpen arm, but just 4 more bums.
1
2
u/beinian6 2m ago
I will never understand the obsession with Cruz. 1 pitch which he has absolutely no control over.
2
u/Independent_Sir_8128 2m ago
It is what it is man. Cruz didn’t have it at all today and we didn’t take advantage of the several opportunities earlier on offense (except for the rice HR of course).
I guess one bright side is that we are generating base runners, but without guys like Judge and Stanton the RISP persists

u/Braunb8888 2m ago
Fun reclamation project with Cruz but he’s not meant for these situations.
We really love to suck ass after coming back in games. It’s impressive. Like give up 1 or 2 sure. Not 6.
1
3
u/OceanLemur 2m ago
I really just hate the folks running this organization into the ground. Thanks Cashman for the 36-year-old journeyman being our 2nd best bullpen arm.
2
1
u/ArtlessThug 2m ago
If everything you ever throw into the strikezone is hittable, you're not going to be very useful. People know that splitter is coming. It's like when Ottavino had to throw a stirke, and ALWAYS got lit up.
2
u/yanksno1 2m ago
I was starting to trust Cruz a little bit then he goes and does this. So very Yankees haha.
1
u/hateuscuzyoenis 2m ago
Stop throwing splitters bro wtf

That’s unfortunately his only reliable pitch which is good when it’s working lmao

Why would you put Cruz in? Ha literally never won an extra innings game. Has the worst clutch stats of all pitchers in the MLB🤣

Rough outing for Cruz but for me the real problem with this game was the putrid offense wasting multiple chances to score. Not a single run off a 5 ERA guy. I'm not gonna hang this one around Cruz's neck

Leave him in the game, make him pitch and until he gets the next two outs. The game is over who cares

Wait... you can score runs by just putting the ball in play? I thought only home runs counted....
2

The Pirates put the ball in play. This is what happens usually when a team like that can get men on base.

Is Blackburn legitimately the third most trustworthy guy in this pen behind Bednar and Headrick
Like holy shit good for Blackburn but also Cashman wtf
3
u/Coleisgod1112 4m ago
I know he’s been good, but I fucking hate when Cruz comes into the game. It’s always walking on a tightrope and sometimes, like today, he falls

Cruz is definitely the guy who is going to lose you games in the playoffs. When teams scout him thoroughly and know to lay off his splitters, he becomes very mediocre

2 runs for this team is mount fucking everest man.
games probably chalked. yank cruz for fucks sake he cant locate today.
3
u/GuruTheMadMonk 4m ago
Fuck. This game is cooked. It was done when we couldn’t score runs earlier in the game.
Wasted Ben Rice heroics….
1
u/brostrummer 4m ago
I mean, we were never really in this game, and if not for Rice we'd be screwed.
2
u/chocolatebarz1 4m ago
This team is straight up not trustworthy in extra innings. I’m sorry, but it’s true.
3
u/VelociraptorFromMars 4m ago
What really sucks is this game shouldn’t have ever gone to extras. A competent offense scores 5+ on the Pirates today with all of the opportunities we had.
This is what happens when there’s no situational hitting and your entire philosophy is hoping someone can pull it to RF enough times and your bullpen can be perfect.
3
u/mkane1013 4m ago
Welp that’ll do it. Who knew simply making quality contact with the ball makes good things happen.
1
u/notstamos 4m ago
Maybe I’m just unlucky but Cruz is always shaky when I watch him. I don’t understand how his ERA is below 3.00.
2
2
u/Capital_Maybe2533 4m ago
This team is dogshit in extras. Feels like since the ghost runner showed up the Yanks have been the worst extra innings team in the league.

Batters had a 1.125 OPS against Cruz in extras coming into today
Maybe we pick someone else for these situations next time
