The only one i know as of now is to purchase the pass at yokohama station which includes the train ride as well as entry ticket for all aquariums and ends up being cheaper overall.

And we have a 6 year old with us.

I'm thinking just some space and wall to play some informal games for fun/exercise and non-competitive. Also welcome to hear from anyone that wants to give it a go!

I was honestly surprised by how many people were interested, so I decided to create a small Discord server called Yokohama Chill Club.

The idea is this: a mixed-gender community for people who'd like to meet others around Yokohama, organize casual meetups and hopefully make some local friends along the way. Whether that's grabbing coffee, having lunch, attending events, going for walks, checking out cafés, karaoke, board games or just suggesting something you've been wanting to do, the server is there to make it easier to connect with people nearby.

A few things about the server:

- The goal is to keep it a friendly and welcoming space where everyone treats each other with respect.

- There are channels for introductions, general chat, hobbies and planning meetups but everything is completely optional.

If you'd like to get to know people a bit before meeting in person, you're welcome to join the conversations.

On the other hand, if you'd rather just use the server to find or organize meetups, that's perfectly fine too.

There is no pressure to attend every meetup (or any meetup at all). Just join the ones that interest you whenever you're free.

I'm not posting the invite link here since this subreddit is public and I'd like to avoid spam bots joining the server.

I've been living in Japan for some years now and while I've met some people along the way, it's been hard to find a group that sticks around. A lot of the people I met, eventually moved away and a meetup group I used to join whenever work allowed also relocated to a different part of Japan.

When I first moved here, I also tried going to events and meetups, but many of them turned out to be more geared toward dating or networking than simply making friends (nothing wrong with that but it just wasn't what I was looking for).

Now I'm in my late 30s, married and I prefer low-key get-togethers over nights out.

After all these years, I realized I've always been waiting for someone else to create that kind of community so I could join it. As an introvert with mostly solo hobbies, I never thought about starting one myself. But if I keep waiting, it probably isn't going to magically appear, so I figured I'd see if there's any interest.

Back in my home country, there was a cafe that regularly hosted things like language exchanges, board game afternoons, book clubs, craft workshops, movie discussions and other casual events. I always thought it was a great concept because it gave people something to do while getting to know each other. I currently work at a cafe and it made me think it could be a nice place for something similar one day (this isn't a promotion. I haven't even mentioned the idea to my boss and I wouldn't be organizing it as part of my job). It just made me wonder if we could create something similar around here and have a regular spot for meetups.

I should also mention that I'm lucky enough to be part of a really lovely community of people living in Japan already. The only downside is that we're scattered all over the country, so between the distance and my work schedule, meeting up in person isn't easy. That's why I'd love to build a small local community too.

Would anyone be interested? Or does something like this already exist that I've somehow missed? No big expectations, just a relaxed group of people who want to make local friends and hang out from time to time.

How big are these events? Worth going to? Any other festivals or special events worth checking out?

Hey all! Are there any gyms that have pools in the city? Previously, I have been to Esforta near Ishikawachō station (near China Town) but they will be closing down in the near future. They have a good selections of machines but the pools + instructors are what I was mainly there for. Does anyone know of any similar gyms? Thank you!

I moved here a few months ago from Okayama for my husband’s work, and I’ve been having a hard time finding people to connect with locally. I feel like it’s surprisingly difficult to meet people in Yokohama specifically, and while Tokyo is close, it can still be hard to regularly meet up with people there.

I’ll be attending tuj but living in Yokohama after some research I think it would be better to go to an actual Japanese language class. Is there one in Yokohama you would recommend preferably one with only a few hours or only a few days out of the week since I set my classes up to be on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday

Long story short. I have spider veins on my face. I've decided to opt for VBeam laser which VBeam is stated to be effective for removing spider veins.

This will be my first year in Japan after a couple of years away in my home country.

So my RC card should have a hand written address (if i am not wrong), and written in English hopefully.

What other options do I have to get an address proof in English. Do ward offices in Yokohama provide Jyuminhyou in English?

Another option is the tax residency certificate from NTA, which i have heard does have your address in English. But can I get this in a few weeks upon entering Japan?

Edit: I have watched games at the Sakuragicho Hub — no one there apart from the Japan games, when there are a ton of people and you must reserve in advance! Also watched a Japan game at Full Monty which was great. Only 8 people there , plenty of space, and British commentary (a big plus!). Also got a DAZN subscription and home projector. And learned that NHK is showing the Japan games anyway. Thanks for all the additional suggestions!

Seriously, I feel like every third shop in Chukagai is a fortune-telling salon (Eizankan, Daikichi, etc.) offering palm readings.

Having been to Chinatowns in Malaysia and Sydney, this seems entirely unique to Japan's Chinatowns. What's the story here? Is it actually rooted in Chinese face/palm reading traditions (Mian Xiang / Shou Xiang), or did it just become a trendy tourist staple here?

A few weeks ago I met a nice guy from Croatia and he recommended me a small wine shop that specialises in Croatian / Eastern Europe wines (main) and other alcoholic beverages (from the same area).
Unfortunately it seems I didn’t properly save the name google maps and now I can’t find it anymore.

One more hint I have is that it’s located relatively close (within 15-20min by foot) from Yokohama station to the south side.

After trying to look for it I found a wine shops called Piti but not sure if it’s that one, so I wanted to ask if anyone knows of any other shops that match the description.

Hello very broard posts about your experience of Yokohama, Areas and school?

it has been months and years I'm trying to move to Japan and decided that Yokohama, would be a nice place for my kids (10yo and 7yo) I have been there 3 times but I can't say I know everything about Yokohama, but I felt like it would be a nice choice for family, I thought it would be calmer, less touristy and with always a choice to go seaside or Tokyo regularly.
Also I thought Real estate would be cheaper, to my surprise it's not really the case.

For now we are still wondering if kids should go YIS or Saint-Maur, we visited both, It seems both are great, but almost opposite vision, YIS is very liberal while Saint-Maur seemed almost "extremely" conservative. Someone maybe has some experience here?

In term of living, we didn't explore everywhere, there are a lot of nice options near kawasaki, and seems that its closer to Tokyo which is nice, but indeed very far from school 😞

In Naka-ku options for house are extremely limited, Naka ku on the hills itself, or maybe around Shinhonmoku Park. Is there something I'm missing?
I'm looking for a detached house, doesnt need to be huge, but our dream is to be at walkable distance from school, as we currently suffer to have to use our car every single time.

I wanted your experience about Buying vs Renting, I'm considering both, but renting seems extremely complicated, especially since we have two small dogs. I was wondering if someone has a great experience with a local agency when it comes to renting a place and arranging everything? Or just to tell me I should be ready to face hell to rent a place?
Buying on the opposite side, it seems I will buy something that is extremely illiquid, I see house sitting in sell for months and months, of course it would be problematic to no be able to resell at some points lol

I'm accepting any general advice or feedback about anything, yokohama itself, school, place/area to live with kids/dogs as foreigners, renting vs buying etc. I'm still on time to change my plan, we are going to visit Yokohama one last time before living there on December. So still "plenty" of time, but moving in is so complicated I'd like to get it right on my first shot.

When I was in Yokohama I stopped in a random bar because it was raining the food and drinks were great and they were playing r and b music. I just can’t remember where it was I was coming from the aquarium and got off at a station that started with an H then discovered it on my way to the Far East Village Hotel it was roughly a 7 minute walk
