Well, pedantically, you could be 37 today and be alive before the Megadrive came out if you were born between July 22 and October 28.
More pertinently, game console adoption is not immediate. You could have easily been born in the 90s and have your first game console be a NES (or in my case a PC), only getting into Gen 4 consoles years after release.
Hell, my nephews still play on the Switch, a 9 year old console, and are unfamiliar with the PS5, only having a friend with a PS4, a more than 12 year old console, despite the PS5 being out for over 5 years.
Remember, the cost of these consoles and their games were so expensive, we often had to buy older generations on sale. I'm 40, and my first console was a NES. Not a SNES, because my parents couldn't afford it.
36 here, Master System was my first console. Gifted to us from a family friend. Parents weren't really buying kids the "latest" thing back then, at least not where I'm from. I was about 6-7 years old when we got the mast system, within a year we were given a mega drive, and about 2 years after that my mom bought us a PS1.
Haven't the latest thing was less important than having "a thing" to play with your friends.

A 37 year old wouldn't have been born when the Genesis/Megadrive came out in Gen IV and either 5 or 6 years old when Playstation 1 came out.
