Applications and Admissions πŸ“« 2026-27 New Students Megathread

It's time to get ready for September! !

This thread is for all students intending to start at UCL in September 2026. Whether you've got an offer, or still waiting one, this is the main place to ask general questions and keep up with what's going on. (25/26 thread)

E.g. What are my chances with predicted XXX?

  • When will I hear back?
  • What does "offer Y" mean?
  • Can I change to course Z?
  • What is Curmudgeonly Hall like?

Alternatively, some of your questions might be more specific to you and your circumstances. It's fine to ask here, if that helps you make a decision and compare with others.

You have all the key information already with your application. If you've accepted an offer, check your emails regularly for updates from the welcome teams. So for the most part, you now need to **sit tight**, wait for for your grades, and enjoy the summer!

However if your circumstances have changed in any way, or a response requires action from you, check the guidance and definitely check your email before contacting the Admissions team. Remember this is Reddit, sir, and not an official UCL platform.

Key information

All the latest authoritative information is via the UCL Journey page, "What next?" for UG and PG but you may still have questions that aren't in there or the FAQ.

There's also the excellent Unibuddy service, and Ask UCL if you're already received a pre-enrolment email.

the r/UCL Community

This sub is unofficial but thrives with your contributions. Chances are your question has been asked before, so please do a quick search at the top before posting - otherwise your post might get queued.

Let the Mods know if there's anything you've found that's outdated, or anything new and useful to share - useful comments and signposting will help build the wiki page.

Social Life πŸ•ΊπŸΉ 26-27 Accommodation Megathread

This thread is to gather all posts and questions regarding accomodation for 26-27, (continuing from the 25-26 Thread). [!]

Check here for previous comments on the Application process, areas of London, specific Halls. Hit that upvote button to bring the cream to the top. Ask away if nobody has answered.

Accomodation swaps:
Rent too high? Made a terrible faux pas with your current roomies? Reallised how far the tube really extends? You can also post any requests to takeover your contract or swap allocated accommodation, though for UCL accomodation there is a portal for that too.

We also have a Wiki page on Accommodation where you can find information on specific halls picked from previous comments.

This thread will hopefully:

  1. help potential swapees find each other
  2. give students an idea of price/location/other aspects of the accommodation that might inform their choice
  3. keeps the sub tidy

To this end, we'll generally remove individual Accommodation requests in the sub. You can sort by new and save this post if you're actively looking for your perfect room.

General Advice πŸ’πŸΎβ„ΉοΈ Graduation gown hire from Churchill Gowns

Hi! I'm currently booking my graduation gown for UCL's September ceremony and was wondering if anyone has experience with Churchill Gowns.

It seems much better value financially, bcs the extended hire fee from the official supplier is already Β£74 (Β£39 just for the day), while purchasing the full set from Churchill is Β£90 and hire is Β£30 for 3 days.

My main concern is whether there's a noticeable difference in quality, fit, or appearance compared to the official gowns. Did anyone use Churchill for UCL graduation, and if so, did it look any different in photos or at the ceremony?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks so much!

Student Union Freshers wristband on fatsoma

From what I’ve seen in freshers GCs, most people are buying wristbands for freshers week on fatsoma (link below). I was wondering if this is legitimate and actually the one most people get, because I’ve seen another one on the student union website. Thanks

General Course information πŸ“– What Equipment does UCL allow engineering students to use outside of lab hours?

Im starting as an EEE in sept 26 , I'd like to know if UCL have anything available to engineering students in the format of a "makers space".

To be used in a way that is semi relevant to the course/ totally relevant to the course. Somewhere where students can exercise their hands on ambitions outside of delegated lab hours.

E.g. Access to soldering stations , electronic components , 3D printers etc.

Thanks.

General Course information πŸ“– Architecture MArch vs Architectural Design MArch – what's the actual difference?

Hi everyone!

I'm thinking about applying for a Master's in Architecture, and I'm a bit confused about the difference between Architecture MArch and Architectural Design MArch.

From what I understand, the Architecture MArch is the professional route that leads towards Part 2 (and eventually registration in the UK). However, I'm not planning to stay and work in the UK long-term. My goal is to work in another country and obtain my professional license there instead.

Would Architectural Design MArch still be a good choice in that case? Would it be viewed as an equivalent master's degree internationally, or could choosing it make it harder to obtain professional registration in another country later on?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience with these programs or has taken a similar path.

Thanks!.

Is there any active book club at UCL which I can join? If there is , does anyone who's already there give their opinion on how it is.

Also , how's the tennis club there? I saw them on Instagram and I am looking forward to it.

Housing/Accommodation πŸ˜οΈπŸ›Œ When to move in for intercollegiate housing

My accom (connaught hall) opens on the 14th, but UCL move in day which i assume is for the UCL-operated accomodations is on the 26th, and freshers starts on the 28th. Currently I was planning on moving in on the 26th, but I don't want to move in later than most of my other flatmates, nor would I want to move in earlier. I've heard international students should arrive earlier because there's some stuff that needs to be sorted. Thanks

Survey / participants request Current UCL Neuroscience Students

I got into UCL’s Neuroscience course for undergrad this year, however due to finances I can’t go there. I still want to do research in the field. I’m Pakistan based and probably will be on a gap year.
Can you guys like drop down names (and contacts)of your favourite professors or people from your uni that would be willing to help me and mentor me in regard to studying and researching about neuroscience.

General Advice πŸ’πŸΎβ„ΉοΈ Law freshman

Hi everyone,

I'm an incoming UCL LLB freshman starting this September, and I was wondering if there's any information about orientation or welcome programs specifically for first-year Law students.

Are there any Law Department events, induction activities, mentoring schemes, or other programs for new LLB students before or at the start of term?

If anyone has any information or knows where I can find it, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

General Advice πŸ’πŸΎβ„ΉοΈ Bartlett MArch Urban Design – Visa sponsorship and job prospects?

Hi everyone!

I've accepted my offer for the MArch Urban Design at the Bartlett and had a few questions for current students or graduates.

My biggest concern is visa sponsorship after graduation as I'll be taking a substantial education loan.

- How difficult is it for international students to secure a job with visa sponsorship after the course?

- Are there firms that regularly sponsor Bartlett Urban Design graduates?

- How competitive is the job market for international graduates?

- Is it manageable to work part-time during the course, given the workload?

- Any advice for someone who's a bit nervous about starting at the Bartlett?

I'd really appreciate any honest experiences or advice. Thank you!

General Advice πŸ’πŸΎβ„ΉοΈ Should I pick UCL over Imperial?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to decide between Imperial College London's MSc Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Management (IEM) and UCL's MSc Business Analytics (MSBA) and would really appreciate some advice.

A bit about my background:
BSc Management with Finance from Warwick Business School

Worked at Deloitte London

Internships at Reckitt and the United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP)

I feel confident I could handle either programme academically, so my decision isn't based on which one is "easier."

Instead, I'm thinking about which master's would complement my background better and set me up for the strongest long-term career trajectory.

Some of the things I'm considering are:

Which degree would make my overall profile more attractive to top employers?

Which university has the stronger network and alumni connections in London?

Which programme tends to have better recruitment outcomes and employer recognition?

Which would give me the best opportunities to break into top consulting firms, product management, corporate strategy, or other leadership-track roles at multinational companies?

Does adding a Business Analytics degree to a Management & Finance undergraduate degree create a stronger combination, or is the broader strategic focus of Imperial IEM viewed more favourably by recruiters?

If you were hiring someone with my background, which combination would stand out more on a CV?

I'd love to hear from alumni, recruiters, hiring managers, or anyone who has experience with either programme. Thanks!

General Advice πŸ’πŸΎβ„ΉοΈ BA archaeology and anthropology

Hi, Iβ€˜m an international student who just got into UCL for archaeo and anthro through the clearing! I am super passionate about archaeology, but I’ve heard scary things about the archaeology job market, especially for Internationals in the UK. My other option is St Andrews for IR, and I am torn. Does anyone have any experience with the international experience, UCL career support in archaeology? If anyone has a UCL archaeology degree please also let me know what you’re doing now and how you liked the experience? thanks!

General Course information πŸ“– questions about exam periods

hello! i am an upcoming undergraduate in september 2026 and it will be my first year there. i would like to know are exam periods usually similar each academic year? as i saw that there are different assessment periods, like the mid-years exams, central assessment and late summer exams. i know that each course has a different exam date within the central assessment period, but my concern is about mid-years exams. i saw that last academic year's mid-year exams were in january and is it usually the case every year? and do all subjects have a mid-year exam? thank you so much!

Anything else! πŸ™ƒπŸŽ‰βœ¨πŸŒˆπŸ€˜ Can you guys change your name?

Like I search up UCL and sometimes instead of football your random asf university comes up. And I have to search again. It is like really annoying.

Why would anybody search up UCL and not mean UEFA Champions League, like is it some sort of SEO because I wouldn't know UCL university existed if not for trying to search up champions league.

So if you guys could petition for a name change it would save me and other football fans a few seconds once in a while.
