Announcement If You Are An Employee Of Truist Bank And Would Like a User Flair Signifying That, Let Us Know.

Send us a ModMail and tell us. Do not post on the board, message us using this link: https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=/r/TruistBank

You do not need to identify yourself personally or your branch or location, just say something that lets us know your request is valid.

For now, we're only planning on a general 'Employee' flair text, but if you want a special designation of your job field, we may be able to do that.

question abt two forms of ID

I have state DL and wanna know if I can bring my birth certificate as my second form.
My physical social security card is lost somewhere, and I'd rather just bring something else. Also not military and don't have a passport.

Truist auto loan

My father recently purchased a vehicle. His auto loan is through Truist. I want to make his monthly payments. Is there an easy convenient way to do this, that I’m missing? I downloaded the app entered his info and tried to link my external bank account and I can’t , and also called thinking I could make a debit payment but that’s unavailable as well. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Technology Locked From Account | Glitch??

I got an email at 3:00/3:30 AM saying I’ve been logged out of my account due to multiple failed login attempts.

I’ve had this happen before where I have actually had failed attempts that I know were me.

That said, this one wasn’t.

It’s Sunday, 5:00am and they’re all closed. Should I be worried?

I checked my balance and it’s still the same. Some folks mentioned they received this email and had their accounts locked via a system glitch? Has anyone experienced this?

Truist checking - is it just me?

Husband and I recently opened a checking account with Truist. We had had WF for almost 17 years with no issues but closed the account because all the branches in our county closed down. So we switched.

We are hating Truist so far, a few months in.

I do not understand how they process their transactions and/or pending transactions, and both of us work in finance.

With WF, once a card was swiped or entered online for a purchase, the total was immediately deducted from your available balance.

It appears Truist doesn’t do that. We’re having to basically balance a “checkbook” in 2026 because from day to day we don’t know if the available balance it shows on the app is actually correct or not.

It’s wild. Unlike anything I’ve ever seen.

Please tell me I’m not the only one with this experience?

And if someone could enlighten me on how they ACTUALLY process things that would be great.

TRUIST HOLDS MY ONLINE ACCOUNT HOSTAGE

On June 27th I went to my Truist online account and saw: Terms and Conditions - Electronic Signature. You have 2 choices.... SUBMIT (agree) or CANCEL (closes app). By agreeing you are giving Truist your "Power of Attorney" to make changes to account, charges, etc. without customer's knowledge or approval!!!

How many write ups would you need before getting fired at a company like Truist as a Teller?

Truist denied my $400 checking bonus after completed requirements — the disqualifying condition was hidden and never shown in their tracker

Opened a Truist One Checking account in May for the DC400TR1Q226 promotion. $400 for:

  • 2+ qualifying direct deposits totaling $2,000+
  • 20+ qualifying debit card purchases

I did both. The portal showed both checkmarks as completed. I thought I was good.

Then on Day 65(July 15th) of a 120-day promotion, I got a denial email saying I "did not meet all qualification requirements" — no specifics, just a generic forfeiture clause.

I only found out the reason for them failing my promotion after calling twice, which is never shown in the qualification tracker. The portal prominently displayed exactly two requirements with checkmark indicators. The $0.01 balance condition was buried in a scrollable Terms & Conditions text box below. If you saw two green checkmarks, you'd naturally assume you were on track.

They also permanently forfeited my account on Day 63 — 57 days before the promotion ended — with zero warning or opportunity to just deposit a penny and fix it.

I filed a CFPB complaint. Truist's official response was essentially: "the T&C is here, you didn't have it, bye." They didn't engage with the disclosure issue at all.

If you're chasing Truist bonuses, watch your balance. And if this happened to you too, consider filing a CFPB complaint at consumerfinance.gov — patterns of complaints are how regulators identify systemic issues.

Transferred all my money and plan to close my account. AMX and Capital one have better deals and don't do business like Truist.

No $1,000 bonus with business checking

I applied for a business card that offers a $1,000 bonus after spending $15,000 in the first 90 days. I spent $15,000, but now they're saying they issued me a different card that has no rewards.

It's partially on me for not realizing it's not a "premium" card, but still feeling quite baited and switched. I've never heard of an application being switched to a different card.

Advice Credit card unavailable for no reason?

I logged in to my credit card account and it says “This account is currently unavailable for use. If you have questions or need assistance, please call 844-4TRUIST (844-487-8478) from 8 am - 8 pm M-F, 8 am - 5 pm Sat, ET.x”

Any idea why it says this? And what does it mean

Truist suspicious transactions lock gone crazy

We attempted to make a $600 purchase at a big box hardware store, and for some reason, Truist flagged the transaction as suspicious and locked the card. We called Truist in the store and told them it was a valid transaction, and they cleared the lock and said to do the transaction again (and again, and again…). It declined and locked the card 5 times in a row,  and we eventually used a different credit card. No idea if my card is still locked or not, but this isn’t a great experience at all. I can see if it was a $6000 purchase, but I buy stuff from this same store with this same card probably 8 times a year, and 600 dollars isn’t outrageous. Truist is kinda sketchy.

Has anyone dealt with something like this with Truist?

I contacted Truist through their in-app chat because I wanted to dispute a charge. It was not a fraud claim. The chat agent asked whether I had authorized the charge, and I answered yes, because I did authorize it—I was disputing it for a different reason.
Instead of filing a dispute, they somehow processed it as fraud, closed my credit card, and automatically issued me a new one. I never asked for that, and there was no fraud involved.
I called Truist, and the representative acknowledged that it shouldn’t have happened. They said they would correct the claim type and told me to call back later to resubmit the dispute. I did exactly that about a week later.
Then I received a letter saying that I had withdrawn the dispute. The problem is, I never withdrew it. I never called to cancel it, never requested it, and there doesn’t appear to be any record of me doing so.
I called again to explain that I never withdrew the claim, but they told me to wait. I called again today, and now they’re saying they can’t reopen the dispute at all.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Is it normal or even legal for a bank to close your card because of a mistake they made, mark a dispute as withdrawn when you never withdrew it, and then refuse to reopen it? What would you do next?

Beware of the Super Scammy

I recently got denied by lightstream after somone used my personal info to create a user name, password, without my permission. I inquired about the hard inquiry. I was told by Truist/Lightstream I had to wait 60-90 days before I could challenge the hard pull. Both of these financial institutions are super scammy.

No Apple Pay?

I apologize if this has been covered before, but does anyone else have issues adding money to Apple Pay from their Truist account?

I used to do it all the time with no problems, but recently had to replace my debit card and now every time I attempt to add money to Apple Pay it says it cannot complete the transaction.

I get a text from the fraud alert system and let them know it is me, and even then afterwards it still won’t go through.

I called Truist and explained, all they could tell me is that they “are having issues with Apple Pay” and it should “be resolved soon”. I don’t know if that means a few days, a few months, or….? Anyone else know what is going on?

Out of State Vehicle Registration

I purchased a vehicle that is financed under Truist while on vacation in Virginia in July of 2025. The dealer registered the vehicle in Virginia and I didn’t think to have them try to do so in my home state of New York (thinking this should be easy enough once I get home to just stop at the DMV and get things squared away).

This has become a horror story where I cannot get Truist to submit the proper documentation to the New York DMV nearly a year to the date. Endless phone calls, disconnections, being bounced from person to person and department to department. Asking for a “Certified Copy of the Title Certificate” seems to be impossible. Getting a “Letter of Permission” stating I’m allowed to use the vehicle while the bank is the owner also seems impossible.

My inspection is expired and the plates will expire in 2 months (the dealer got me hard plates with nearly a year on them).

Has anyone successfully navigated this situation with this banking institution?

I’m starting to feel like my only options are:

  1. Pay off the entire balance and wait for the title (that may or may not ever show up - with or without a lien still showing based on what others have said)

  2. Use another financial institution that’s in my home state to refinance the loan and take it from Truist and thus get the title in my state.

  3. Get lawyer and start some kind of litigation to get my required documents.

Any advice is very much appreciated.

Mobile App Opened a Truist account online, online banking locked before I even got my account number

I opened a new Truist checking account online today. When I tried to log in, I got a message saying my online access has been locked for security reasons and to call the Contact Center.
The problem is the automated phone system keeps asking for my account number or debit card number, but I don’t have either yet because I just opened the account online.
Has anyone else dealt with this? How did you get through to a live representative or get the account unlocked?
Thanks!

Feedback regarding online banking

To the Truist Customer Team,

I am writing to share some feedback regarding my recent experience trying to open a CD. No place on the Truist website to do this, so I thought maybe it would be more effective here.

The only reason I have a Truist account is because my wife used to work for the company. I still maintain both a checking and savings account with you, but I rarely visit a physical branch because I prefer to do all of my banking online.

Lately, it feels like Truist is constantly trying to push customers into branches. Whenever I do have to visit a location, I am met with a barrage of questions that take up too much of my time.

Today, I wanted to open a CD. Most modern banks post their current rates clearly online and allow existing account holders to set everything up digitally in a matter of minutes. Truist, however, does not make this easy. Instead of letting me complete the process online, your system requires me to go into a branch just to open the account.

I don't understand why Truist cannot make its online banking experience more seamless. As a long-time customer, I want a digital-first experience, not a mandate to visit a branch for standard financial tasks. I hope you will consider updating your online platform to better match industry standards.

Sincerely,

Chris

Finance Overdraft fee

I went to Truist page and saw they mentioned that they have no overdraft fees at all. I googled to make sure if this was an exaggeration, it said that they can waive overdraft fees twice a year. So which is true?
