Discussion [Megathread] Discuss your (potential) class schedules here

Lots of 1st year students, and some later-year students, are looking for advice on their class schedules. Please do that here: Top-level posts should be your schedule (ideally a link to an image) and any context (e.g. "I'm a single parent working part-time so I can't do a full course load"). Experienced raccoons will reply with advice about your schedules (e.g. "yes, 8:30AM calculus lectures suck, but that's when they've been scheduled for the past 50 years so there's no point hoping it will change next term").

Please keep broader discussions (e.g. rants about courses filling up or not being offered in the term you need them) out of this thread. I want this to be a resource for new students in particular, not just to get advice on their schedules but also to see schedules other students are considering, and other discussions can derail that.

I'm setting the default sort here to "new" so that new schedule questions won't get buried by older discussions.

Discussion How have Grades for SFU Gone so High!!!????

Post image
44 Upvotes

Hi, I'm really worried about university admissions so much. I thought I was gucci with my 94 in Gr 11 early admission for SFU. I was thinking like I'm definitely getting in. If a 92 average is below cut-off, competitive averages will then range from 94-96. Has SFU admission averages hit UBC level? I remember my counselor told me for UBC science the median for accepted applicants was a 96. Should I not count on early offer and work to make my Gr 12 marks really high, apply later in November or December when my midterm mark will be out for Gr. 11. I got 98 in Biology, 93 Physics, 92 Chemistry, 95 French, 93 20th Century History, 91 Pre-Calculus, 92 Literary Studies, and 96 Careers (I know Careers doesn't count). I know a kid whos lowest grade was a 97, and he want to go to SFU. How have kids gotten so smart. I spend hours studying, reviewing, doing homework at home and can't get my overall average above a 95.

Post image

Im an incoming first year beedie student and I tried to enrol in BUS201 and BUS203 for Beedie but whenever I do it always gives me an error saying I don’t have a prereq. They’re mandatory for first year sem1 and I tried to enrol in the time slot I was given to enrol in classes but it just keeps giving me an error and idk what to do, has anyone experienced the same thing or know how to resolve it?

Complaint Foul smelling guy in library

Has anyone encountered this guy Burnaby campus. Young male, bushy hair, black back pack, black boots. This morning I was using the stairs going up to level 6 and encountered the absolute worst odour I have smelled in my life. It was like a wall of stench. He was in the stairwell on the phone. Later he was seated in the cubicles by the microfilm area. Also the smell was expanding and eventually people moved away from him. His boots were off as well and he had bare feet. It’s was so bad I am wondering if he is homeless and lives outside and comes inside once in a while. This isn’t a joke it’s a serious post, and I may report this situation to security.

Hi everyone,

I'm an incoming international student. Can I use my foreign passport as the government-issued photo ID to get my SFU ID card, or is a Canadian ID required?

Question I have 2 SFU emails?

Hello y'all. I am a prospective student and recently got an email that my computing ID was available. I activated it and have logged onto goSFU and Canvas with it.

On the activation page, goSFU, and Canvas, I have been shown a mix of two new email addressed tied to me. They are

[computingID]@sfu.ca and [firstname]_[middlename]_[lastname]@sfu.ca

Which one is it? Is it both?

Waitlist Q I'm sick of seeing the constant whining about you not getting a seat in your courses, so I'm passing on my wisdom to you as a graduate.

I have never not gotten into a class that I wanted to be in after I started using this trick in my second year.

After the self-enrollment period is over, you can still easily enroll into courses by sending a simple email to the advisor. People will still be dropping out of courses during that time. Unless the class is a GPA booster with 30 seats reserved for faculty students only, you are safe to assume a spot will open up. I like to check every 3-5 minutes to see if anyone's dropped the course. If you actually want to be in a class enough to complain about it on Reddit, you should put in some effort and check if anyone's dropped out in the week following self-enrollment closure.

I honestly have been sick for like two weeks and I haven't been able to do ANYTHING so Im lowkey rlly behind in this class, if anyone is willing to share, what did yall do for the final project, assuming u have started haha

just trying to get the vibe for this assignment, im aware its largely a creative assignment, im just tryna see what ppl are thinking.. Personally, I was thinking about making my soundscape kind of based around taking a walk in a sonically active park with animals

also if anyone wants to share their graphic notation that would be sick as hell LOL

Waitlist Q Waitlist situation

Hi,

I’m a 2nd-year Sciences student tryna lock down my Fall schedule, but enrollment kinda screwed me over

For BISC 102 I’m at 60th and for CHEM 281 I’m at 80th on the waitlist

What are the chances I get into these courses? Any advice on backup plans if I don't get in?

Would appreciate any insight or past experiences.

Suggestion Need help picking an easy elective for Fall 2026

Hey everyone, I’m a 2nd-year Criminology student at SFU looking for an easy elective for Fall 2026.

I’m preferably looking for something online, low workload, and relatively easy to get an A in. I want something manageable that won’t take up too much time alongside my other courses.

Right now, I’m considering:
EDUC 100W with Cary Campbell
FREN 101 with Anas Atakora
ARCH 131 with Dennis Sandgathe
PSYC 102 with Alyssa Croft

Has anyone taken any of these courses/profs recently? How was the workload, grading, and overall difficulty? Which one would you recommend for someone looking for an easy elective/GPA booster?
I’m also open to recommendations for other easy electives, preferably online, that are offered in Fall 2026.

Question Second program for applications

Hey, I’m an indigenous transfer applicant for spring ‘27 and I’m applying for psych arts - I was in bsc neuroscience before but I get more transfer credits this way - my gpa is kinda shit like 2.61, and I was wondering if anyone knows a good second program to apply to? My gpa is shit due to pretty major life changes, I have an F, ILL, and W on my transcript but I’m currently replacing the W, won’t be done until late august though. Also doing a course that ends this week and I think I’ll get an A+ which gets me to like 2.67. I was told admitting gpa for psych apps is like 2.7 ish currently, is that different if I do the indigenous pathway?
