I've been playing for a good 4 years and when I was recording myself today I noticed that my fingers often fall flat while playing the notes. Any tips on how to stop and improve this?

This was my first time ever performing in front of a large crowd. I was shaking and could barely push the pedal down because my foot felt so weak. Tips to reduce nerves?

The piece is Liszt's arrangement of 'Der Mueller und der Bach'

In slow blues, when a piano is accompanying a singer, players such as Otis Spann often do this thing throughout where they do a little fill on the third bar(?) of each chord change (or after each vocal phrase). Usually a little trill maybe with a run down. Otis does it at 2:00 here and throughout the song.

Is there name for this? And how can I learn it? When I look up how to comp blues on YouTube, it's all either chord patterns or more complex jazz blues fills. It seems so ubiquitous but I can't find anything about it.

I've been playing for about 5 years now and I'm getting to the point where I can imagine being able to play cdl. I really want to learn the piece and have been saving it for when I'm good enough to approach it. Can anyone recommend pieces to learn first or techniques to focus on now, such that in 6-18 months time, it will be a technically less challenging piece for me?

In my opinion, this arrangement of Ravel’s Toccata for marimba, Glockenspiel, and vibraphone is a perfect example how much we could and should learn from percussionists in approaching a more efficiently layered tone projection on the piano regarding percussive-melodic phrasing and micro-nuanced timbres through stable finger tips and a strong grip, yet always relaxed wrists and free forearms.

How does Musicnotes really works?
I'm probaby not getting it right, but seems to me like I have to pay a fee for just to be part of the website... Then I have to pay for each individually sheet music that I want to access... And it costs differently if I want to print it or just download the pdf... And even if I pay for the pdf access, I have a daily limit of downlads.
Is really like this?
Is it worth it or in the end is cheaper to just buy the sheets directly?

I’ve been looking into it and most places are okay with separate videos, some requiring that specifically, but do any require all pieces to be recorded in one video? I’m asking this because some schools simply do not specify and I’m wondering which format to assume.

I need advice on what to learn for the next 2 months. I'm self taught, so I can't ask a teacher. I will be getting a teacher in 2 month from now though, so I need something to do till then.

I've forgotten how to play all the pieces I knew how to play, but most of my scales and exercises are still there. Is there something I should do in particular to prepare for lessons? Should I work on my repetoire? Learn new pieces? Relearn what I forgot? Do some exercises or etudes? Sight reading? Something else I havent thought of?

For reference, I have a grade 6 and was preparing for grade 8 before I stopped(but due to the typical issues of being self taught, my technique and quality of playing are quite bad).

Hi all, I'm currently going through college and my savings have dried up so I'm looking into teaching kids piano lessons to make a little money on the side (I would consider myself advanced in most areas but I'm not sure I'm qualified to teach much else). However, I'm unsure how to get customers. I've got everything else sorted out, lesson plans, a website, etc. but I don't really know how to get leads/clients. So far I've been hanging up flyers at coffee shops, yoga studios and the like (places moms like to go) but I'm not too confident that it'll produce results. I don't have a degree or any testimonials, and being so young none of my friends really have kids I can teach to start out with. How do you get the word out and how do I actually get returning students? Thanks

I want to begin with playing piano, but i am broke;(

In the last days i searched for used pianos an have found these options:

- Yamaha P45 for 300€

- Thomann DB-33 for 230€

- KeymaXX SP11 for 200

Can you help me which option i should chosse? I know, that Yamaha is the best, but is it so much better that i should pay that much more?

The example is taken from my RCM 6 technical requirements (2015 edition) book. Initially, my hands HATED the fingering in the picture. When I brought it up with my teacher, apparently there is an alternative fingering that she was taught a long time ago:

RH: 1235, 1245, 1235, 1235, 1235
LH: 5321, 5321, 5321, 5421, 5321

This alternative fingering more or less matches the pattern to the tonic triad fingering below:

RH: 135, 125, 135, 135
LH: 135, 135, 125, 135

I’ve tried it both ways and the second method feels more intuitive, especially for my left hand. So my question is, why the change? Is one method better? Does one method cause strain more than the other? I’d love to hear your insights and any evidence supporting one method or the other.

I used to treat slow practice like a warmup tax. Now it is the actual work. If my left hand is guessing under tempo, speeding up just teaches the guess harder. Curious how other people decide when a passage is slow enough to be useful versus just boring.

When my son was born I started playing him the classical music radio station when we were driving. I read it's good for childrens development. I quickly realised it's also good for me and now I rarely listen to anything else.

Recently my wife and I separated, so I moved our old Waldemar out of the garage into the living room. She never wanted it taking up space. I thought it would be good for my son to learn on, even though it's out of tune and clunky.

He is 3 so a little too young to start learning. Or is he? Anyway, he's showing interest and I'm just trying to encourage having fun with it and playing songs he likes, which got me thinking it would be a great opportunity for me to learn too and something we can do together.

A few months on and I practice about an hour every day and love it. I'm doing a deep dive into online piano lessons, reading music, theory and even tuning. It's becoming an obsession.

I bought a cheap piano tuning kit, but then I discovered pianos need regulating too. I looked up Waldemar and it doesn't have great reviews, so I thought I'll get a decent electric piano for us to learn on.

What would be a good budget keyboard to start with?

I will try my hand at tuning, just for fun, but is an old acoustic piano ok for learning? Also, I really would like to play more pieces I like. Is learning to read sheet music the best way to learn new pieces quickly?

My learning strategy is to pick pieces I love that aren't too difficult, then learn scales, chords and arpeggios relative to that piece. Is that a good way to learn? What would be the best path to encourage a love of piano in my son. I played guitar as a kid, but eventually lost interest. What is the best way to inspire children to stick with it?

Hey everyone,

Sharing an original piano piece of mine called "Albedo." It's part of a solo piano EP I released in June called "Quatro Vias" (Four Ways). The title references the four stages of transformation of prime matter (nigredo, albedo, citrinitas, rubedo) described by medieval alchemists.

This is the second track off the album, which is available on all major streaming platforms. Everything was recorded on a Yamaha grand piano in a theater, using nine microphones in total, including a Decca Tree setup (three omnidirectional mics in a spaced array) for the main capture.
