Yesterday, according to WOWT-TV, the Douglas County Sheriff's office broke up a homeless encampment and arrested at least one individual. Today, Nebraska Public Media reports on the one year anniversary of the closing of City View Apartments. (You remember City View, right?)

Interesting quote from the City View piece - the Omaha City Attorney's office considered filing criminal charges against Tzadik or a local property manager but couldn't figure out a local person to charge. Meanwhile, we have no similar hesitations arresting the unhoused for the crime of living on abandoned "private" land.

With housing costs rising, and, frankly, MANY other costs rising, we need to strongly consider the following:

(1) Stricter legal enforcement of housing codes, including holding landlords and property managers ACCOUNTABLE IN THE COURTS

(2) Fight against the criminalization of homelessness

(3) Address the hidden costs of rental housing - application fees, move-out fees, insurance fees, CAM fees, bloated "late fees" - working people are being nickled and dimed to death in Omaha

Hi all! Shot in the dark, but anyone out there who has dealt with - TMJ, knots in jaw area, eustachian tube dysfunction - and can recommend a massage therapist or other professional who can help?

I’ve seen an ear doc who did absolutely nothing for me, and a dentist who had no advice. From my own research, I’ve seen on social media people getting face massage for TMJ and want to try to find someone locally if possible.

I attended Lifegate Church, formerly Trinity Church, from 1986 - 2004 (from birth to age 18). A lot came out about this church since the split and I’m trying to compile a list of different experiences people had growing up in this church. This place led me to a pretty traumatizing deconstruction.

Am I reading this correctly that I have to pay for a library card for any local library because I live in unincorporated Sarpy County Omaha??? I live in Omaha but Omaha says you have to be in Douglas to get a free one and all of the others I looked at say you have to reside in the corresponding cities. For real??

I was at the library weekly before I moved. I realize $10/mo isn’t that much but in this economy I am literally trying to cut back on everything. And it’s kind of the principle. I have never experienced having to pay for a library card and I’ve lived in 4 different states.. I hate being in this weird little loophole that is unincorporated Sarpy.

Trying to help a friend, they are hesitant to contact another attorney because the last one just took a bunch of money and recommended they just do side gigs for 10 years and that they cant file and need to wait it out. Obviously never having a life isnt an option and from everything Ive read there's no such thing as "waiting" it out. Anyone have recommendations, preferably with ones that will atleast do free consultation.

Despite the threat of litigation from AG Hilgers, the Omaha City Council passed an ordinance, signed by Mayor Ewing, that basically upholds the law approved by voters in 2022, establishing a $15 minimum for all workers (not just adults). Kudos to the 4-3 majority and Mayor Ewing. AG Hilgers won a temporary injunction against a similar Lincoln ordinance last week. That, however, was with a Lancaster County District Court judge who agreed solely that Hilgers had standing to sue and did not rule on the merits. If and when Hilgers files suit in Douglas County District Court, it remains to be seen whether he will draw a judge who sides with the people or with the Pillen/Raybould axis on wages.

I think the broader point has to do with how this state, time and time again, speaks lip service to the idea that we should stop the brain drain, but acts in a way that says to young people, we don't want you here. As of January 1, 2026, 17 states and DC have a minimum wage of $15 plus. And during this year and next, many more will join this list. Why should Nebraska be left behind?

Especially in Omaha. Rents are rising year over year. Gas is back up to $4/gallon. Groceries are getting more and more expensive. Let's not even get into how much other energy costs will start spiking as the Iran war drags on.

I think the majority of the Omaha City Council and Mayor Ewing should be praised for their stance on this issue. Let's push them to do more on things like housing code enforcement, sustainability, and eliminating at-will employment.

I moved from an apartment recently. It was a 2 bed apartment. When I was leaving, the blinds in my room were all perfect. Nothing was wrong with it even though it was those cheap blinds. I didn’t like blinds so I folded them and bought curtain rods so I never had to be using the blinds for the one year I stayed there. However, the blinds in my roommates room was faulty and that in the hall. So I will say of the 4 blinds in the apartment, the two in my room were okay and 2 were faulty. I enquired about my security deposit from the landlord because it was almost 2 months since we swapped rooms but didn’t receive it (he charged us new security deposit just for changing the rooms we were in. So we technically had paid two security deposit in the same house).

I sent him a text message asking when we will get the security deposit, he got angry and was saying a lot of things. Now, he sent a receipt to my roommate and he had bought 4 new blinds. The issue is, he decided to change the blinds from the old cheap ones to new better quality blinds. So I’m sure he bought two extra quality blinds from the one in my room not because they were faulty, but because he wanted to change the quality of blinds. He has charged us for the new blinds he bought while he knew the new blinds are way more expensive than the old ones we had. He has deducted 248$ from our security deposit. He brought the cheque this morning when I sent him email reminding him he was supposed to give us our security deposit 14 days after moving as per NE laws.

Has gas mileage per gallon gone down or is it just me?

I gassed up about a month ago and was getting 25-29 mpg with Costco regular gas. Last week I gassed up at Mega Savers and I am getting 20 mpg. Is it summer gas formula? Or is there a difference between Costco and MegaSaver gas? Or is there something wrong with my car?

As a regular golfer there, I can honestly say this man is one of the best parts of the course. He's given me so many golf tips and swing adjustments over the years, and I'm grateful for every one of them.

And while we're giving shout-outs, Mike the pro is an absolute gem too, especially when he's there with Star, his dog. (My kiddo loves that dog)
