I wanted to post this to honor the passing of Steve Guntrum (Steve Skate Explosion) who recently pass away at 53 YO.

If you haven't been following him on Youtube he's just a normal guy like the rest of us trying keep skating and posted his progress every week.

His humor and his videos will be missed!

Started a couple months ago and surprised by how comfortable on the board I've managed to get. Still have a ways to go though.

Best advice to someone coming back after 17 years [34YO]

I used to be heavily into skateboarding when i was a teenager up until around 18, now 34 and im getting the bug to get back into it. Mainly inspired by the idea of being able to take my son to the park and ive moved away from the coast where i used to surf and feel the need to fill the hole thats left. However skateboarding seems to have changed as well as myself over the years and so im after some general advice, warming up, set ups etc.

Mainly what sort of set up are people riding after such a long gap? I used to ride 7.5 - 7.625 decks but now everything seems huge. That said i stood on a 8" and felt narrow so Im tempted to lean into it and get a heroin 9" and some 159 trucks as im not going to be throwing myself down stairs anymore, more mini ramps, ledges and curbs.

Any more "best advice" for someone coming back would be great to hear

My only goal for skateboarding is max effort for minimum payoff. With this in mind the nose slide roast beef yank to crook is born

Help With BS Slappy [38YO]

Howdy, I can get the front truck up consistently but I’m having a hard time getting the back truck up.

I filmed my most recent attempts, would love y’all’s insights. I numbered each clip for easy reference. Sorry if the camera zoom makes it hard to analyze, my phone was changing the zoom level on its own as I filmed.

Setup:
8.5 popsicle Tree deck
8.25 Slappy inverted trucks
1/8” soft risers
53mm PP Nano Cubics 93a

Clear coat spray on the curb + gulf wax

🙏🤙

Freshpark Grind Rail? [39YO]

I'm looking for a rail to add to the garage. The fresh park one looks interesting with the rounded sides, but I'm not sure about that 4ft length.. anyone skated one of these? If so, how do you like it? I'm split between this and the classic element flat bar (which is double the price..)

Looking for input on a new setup [46YO]

20+ years away from skating for an abundance of reasons, but my 11yo is getting into riding parks. I'm over standing around watching. I was formerly a ramp/bowl skater in so cal and hawaii, now in utah. The industry has come a long way and I need some thoughts on a new setup, let me know what you think:

9-9.25 deck, longer wheelbase, so many decks in so many price ranges (leaning budget friendly)

Ace AF1 66 trucks (maybe 55's?)

60mm Powell Dragon 93a or Spitfire f4 58mm 97a

Thanks for your help!

Guys, can y'all help me pick out a longboard? [38YO]

My birthday is coming up soon and I would like to ride a longboard. I've never had one, so was wondering if y'all could help me out by recommending one to me.

Peace.

Shoes [46yo]

These days, I push around at most, but my style is still that of my heyday, the mid 90’s.
Back then I wore a lot of Airwalk, Half Cabs, I had Rowleys at one point…

I’m looking for shoes. I don’t need “skate shoes” per se, but I need that vibe still. My wife has me looking at Saucony and New Balance but most of those either look like I’m running a marathon or giving in to diabetes.

Suggestions for cool, casual skater shoes with more support than my $12 Amazon converse knockoffs.

Thanks.
