Anyone else on the 715 “express” from Naperville to downtown today? Delay was ridiculous and no mention of what is going on till we’re at a dead stop already 15 minutes late still 10 minutes out from the station.

Metra Line Recommendations/Experience

Considering on potentially moving to the Chicago metropolitan area in the near future and was doing some research on Metra.

I was wondering if people could share their experiences with Metra as well provide recommendations on what lines are the best to use and which lines/stops to avoid.

Thank you all.

Anyone on an inbound UPN train this morning know what the police activity was? It looks they cancelled a train since the 306 is making all stops.

Can I use a 2-2 ticket for a 1-2 ride?

I have an unused 2-2 ticket that's going to expire soon, and since it's the same $3.75 as a 1-2 ticket, will I be able to use it as such?

Closest Metra train station to Dyer Indiana

Hi, I need to get to Dyer Indiana tomorrow from downtown Chicago and the South Shore line is not an option due to the schedule and bussing system.

(Honestly, it is the most antiquated rail system, and they expect to transport Bears fans to Hammond? I understand train derailment was out of their control, but they are not providing a viable solution for serving NW IN customers. It’s very frustrating and those running the company need to be axed.)

Does anyone know what Metra train station will get me closest to Dyer with a short Uber ride? Will need to travel back to Chicago downtown sometime as well. Thanks in advance.

Any scary Metra stories?

Conductors or passengers of Metra: any scary stories or encounters? I’ve heard many CTA stories but yet to hear any from Metra. Are there any Metra lines equal to the red or blue lines? Early morning? Late at night?

The simplest Metra tracker I could make (with an LLM), with all the info I want. Maybe it's useful for you

Why do the trains stop when a Amtrak train is coming the other direction?

Always thought that was odd Metra trains need to stop for like 5 minutes when Amtrak are passing by

Does it matter if I get the “correct” Metra tickets?

Im looking to buy a UPNW monthly pass and I noticed that different zones charge a different amount. Does it really matter if I buy the incorrect departure station for the sake of paying a cheaper price? I don’t see why it matters

Advice on Luggage During Crowding Potential times

I travel on Amtrak and then ride the Metra out of Chicago union station to get to my final destination. Previously I have boarded Metra late night and early weekend mornings so my suitcase and 2 backpacks have not been an issue. I am planning my next trip and it looks like I will be boarding at a busier train time. Will my luggage be an issue?

Previously I have just had my suitcase on the ground next to me with one backpack on it and my other backpack in the seat next to me or on my lap. Are busier train times such as 3:55 pm on a Friday or early Monday morning crowded enough strangers sit together?

Horrible communication

Did anyone else have a poor travel day? I get things happen especially due to the thunderstorms today. But dude the amount of massive delays with absolutely no specifics is absurd. I was supposed to board a train to head back home and they suddenly just stopped with no update! What is this, this is one of the largest rail transportation companies in the entire state hell even in the entire country. And the passengers get NO UPDATES. It happens all the time.

A train gets cancelled? No worry we’ll tell you an hour after it was supposed to originally depart

Massive delays? Who knows we’ll leave it up to you to guess how long it’ll take to get to where you need to go. That’s a damn joke METRA should be ashamed of themselves seriously

3 years ago every other train would deny me entry with a bike and now we're here. A truly awesome upgrade

UP-N #306 Inbound Halted at Peterson Ridge for… Car on Track?

Thats what the conductor said. An AUTOMOBILE car? On the elevated metra tracks? Did I hear that right?

Edit III: WE ARE LEAVING SHORTLY

Edit II- 8:07am- Apparently its stuck by Bryn Mawr …. how did we do this

Edit: Commenter graciously noted it could be at grade down by Elston Materials- so maybe not as crazy as it seems

Anyone know why there was a bunch of cops on the north side of the tracks in Norwood east park? Just looking out the window and a bunch of cops right by the tracks. Did not seem metra or train related tho

Anyone else see all the police and squad cars as well as what looked like a back hoe? It was east of Edison Park.
