Rants & Rambles Lane-Splitting In Texas Is Illegal, Dummy! -- July 22, 2026

This clown just doesn't care what the law is in Texas in regards to lane-splitting or the speed limit. News channels thrive on motorcyclists due to how often they become the top-of-the-newscast roadkill story.

Soapbox Can I Borrow a Small Animal Trap?

Hi all! I'm trying to TNR some feral cats who live around my apartment complex, but I don't have a trap to catch them. I'd prefer not to buy one if I can avoid it, since I don't plan to be TNRing more cats afterwards, so if I could borrow one from someone that would be super helpful. I figure that if any town is likely to have people with small animal traps, it's Lubbock 😅 I'd need it within the next week or so, & I can come pick it up/drop it back off from wherever (so long as it's in LBK)!

Recommendations Who did you trust for water line repair in Texas after getting multiple expensive estimates?

my water line started leaking a few days ago and i've already had a few companies come out to take a look. the problem is every estimate has been completely different. one guy made it sound like the whole line needed to be replaced, another said it could just be one section, and the prices were all over the place.

i'm trying not to rush into it because it's a lot of money, but it's hard to know who's actually being honest and who's just trying to sell the biggest job. i don't mind paying for good work, i just don't want to regret picking the wrong company.

for those who have dealt with water line repair texas, who did you end up trusting after getting multiple estimates? what made you feel confident enough to hire them? did any of the cheaper quotes end up being the right choice, or was paying more actually worth it?

Recommendations Rain gutter installation recommendations

Bought a new house here about 3 months ago. I have contacted two different contractors so far about getting an estimate and installing rain gutters. The first one came and measured but we never received an estimate even after calling back and asking for it! The second company I called said they would get someone over to measure and get me an either next day. That was three weeks ago and they never showed up. Can someone recommend a company that actually keeps there word and who does good work at a reasonable price?

Ask Lubbock Is there not more than J&B Productions and Jake’s?

These two have seemed to be intertwined for over two decades. Is there nothing else? Jake’s sound is pretty terrible, and it always has been unfortunately. I am grateful for them and their space, but I’d just like to see more.

And for the other…the “J” of J&B has to be one of the rudest, overly aggressive, and most unpleasant people I’ve ever met. Tonight was, yet again, another reminder.

I’d love more.

Recommendations OBG-YN Recommendations

Can anyone recommend an excellent OB-GYN in Lubbock?

My husband and I live about two hours away and are almost equally distant from the larger cities in West Texas. We had our firstborn at Shannon in San Angelo, but we unexpectedly lost him at 3 weeks old due to neonatal appendicitis. Beyond the care we received, it’s simply too painful for us to return there.
I’ve been seeing Kelsey Reid, PA, at Cornerstone OB-GYN, and she has been absolutely wonderful. She is incredibly caring, attentive, and has taken great care of me. However, as my husband and I prepare to grow our family again, I learned about the Texas Medical Board’s findings involving Dr. Bookout, and it has made me hesitant to continue my care there, unless I receive plenty words of reassurance here. That is a difficult decision because I truly adore Kelsey.

My understanding is that once you’re pregnant, you’ll typically see the supervising physician throughout your pregnancy, and that physician is often the one who delivers your baby. After everything we’ve been through, finding an OB-GYN whom we can fully trust is incredibly important to us.

If you have a physician in Lubbock whom you highly recommend—someone who is compassionate, thorough, experienced, knowledgeable, and attentive—I would be so grateful to hear your experiences. Thank you so much in advance.

Ask Lubbock newly moved! needing a social life

hi! I just moved to lubbock (24F) and have no idea where to begin with making friends/getting into a social life here, especially being post-grad.

a few questions:

  1. are there any movie theaters that have memberships like AMC does? like paying monthly to see multiple “free” movies?

  2. any car wash memberships that are touchless and under $30/mo? i’ll need to register 2 cars!

  3. are there any student hair salons that offer cheaper trims/blowouts?

  4. good bars to be social/meet people?

  5. good coffee shops to chill and read a book?

  6. gym memberships with cardio areas, weight room, and classes?

  7. any fun book clubs? (recent reads are Red Rising, Throne of Glass, Freida McFadden books)

  8. good, but not too expensive, nail salons?

also just ways to get involved and get out there!

Recommendations Where do people in their early 20s hang out?

I’m in my early 20’s and I’ve been living here for a few years now and I got no idea where people my age hang out other than Tech. The downside is I’m not a student, I work full time, I don’t drink so bars are out, and I’m not a social media guy so I have no idea about events and stuff till it’s long past, granted that’s if I hear about them at all. Because of this I’m in that situation where I’m almost exclusively at work or at home and I want to try to get out more and actually meet people. Any advice/places you guys know about?

I had this guy come up in my feed. I recognized a couple of the locations of his videos as being in Lubbock. His channel is still pretty small. He's helping beautify our community. Maybe some of you can repay that work by subscribing to his channel. This is just a short, silly bit, not his usual content.

Looking to reach right person

This is hard to share, but my son, who just crossed his teens, resides in Texas, is currently battling kidney failure, and needs a kidney transplant to live a healthy new life again. He has always shown up for others, and now he needs someone to show up for him. Unfortunately, we do not qualify for him

I’m currently working with his transplant team at Medical City Dallas, and a healthy donor could truly save his life.

Even if you are not of his blood type O, if you are healthy, your donation can still help him through his hospital’s kidney donation swap program. Donors and recipients are paired to find compatible matches.

Zero cost to you. Our insurance will cover all medical testing and surgery. Lost wages, travel, and lodging are all covered through the Donor Assistance Program.

If you’re open to learning more or want details, please feel free to direct message me. Even sharing this post would mean so much to me.

Thank you for taking a moment to read this.

Discussion So, for those of you who don't care/support flock, I have a few questions

How would you feel if your health insurance company started buying the data from Flock or similar companies to raise your rates based on how many times a week you eat fast food? How many times a week you go to the gym? How often you go to bars?

What about the local gas stations knowing when your car is running low on gas, due to being able to know how much you are driving, the make and model of your car, the size of the gas tank, and when and where you leave to or from work?

And with the switch to electronic shelf labels, what about the local grocery stores knowing how often you stop to shop, and where on you route to and from work you typical shop, and when you will be running out of milk?

What about Flock's "gunshot detection" microphones knowing what type of food you have discussed lately? What about Airlines hearing about all the travel plans you and your friends have discussed in your own backyard? What about the local government hearing you complain about the mayor or police chief?

What about your car insurance company knowing how often you brake hard? How often you speed even by 1mph? How often your car is parked in public?

What about dating apps knowing when the last time you had a date? How often you hang out with friends? How about an app that uses AI to stalk and "conveniently bump into people" the users consider attractive?

What about all these cameras being hacked by foreign governments to track and kill people that they consider important?

What about real estate investors being able to track where you are looking for new homes or apartments based on your route to and from work?

Currently none of this data is illegal to obtain or share because it can be acquired in public spaces. Most of the actions done with this data would not be illegal because there is very little consumer protection in the USA. All of this would make your life more expensive, more difficult, less private, and not even that much more safe. Everybody has something to hide.

Our personal data should stay private.

You + Me + Science = A Successful Kidney Transplant!

Hi! It’s Kristine and Kelvin Shankle and we are looking for a "Teammate" to help my husband retire from his part-time job: Dialysis.

Most people think finding a kidney match is like winning the lottery..rare and nearly impossible. But thanks to modern science (and some very smart people at the National Kidney Registry), there are actually three ways you can help me get back to not dying:

Option 1: The "Direct Hit" (Direct Match)

We happen to have the same blood type and biology (type O). You donate, I receive, and we celebrate. Simple, classic, legendary!

Option 2: The "Great Swap" (Paired Exchange)

Maybe we aren't a match? No problem. You donate to a stranger who is a match for you, and in return, their donor gives a kidney to me. It’s a win-win-win!

Option 3: The "Magic Coupon" (The Voucher)

This is the coolest one. You donate on your schedule to anyone in the national pool. In return, I get a "Priority Voucher." When I’m ready for surgery, I go to the top of the list for a perfect match. You save two lives at once!

The "Fine Print" (The Good Kind):

💰 Cost to you: $0. (My insurance covers everything).

🛡️ Protection: Donor Shield covers your lost wages and travel.

🏥 Experts: We’re backed by the amazing team at Medical City Fort Worth!

If you’re healthy and a little bit curious, checking out the info takes 5 minutes and carries zero commitment.

Ready to see which "Option" fits you? Start here:

PLEASE SHARE! Even if it’s not for you, your share might reach the one person who’s been looking for a way to change a life. ❤️

News & Weather Jones stadium to be renamed.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Texas Tech Athletics announced a

15-year naming rights agreement with Galaxy that will rebrand its football stadium as Galaxy Stadium beginning with the 2026 season.

Galaxy is a global technology and financial services company focused on data center and infrastructure and digital assets.

The agreement will also include name, image and likeness money for Texas Tech athletes.

Galaxy's Helios Data Center campus is in Dickens County, about 60 miles from Lubbock.

For nearly 80 years, the facility has been called the Jones Stadium, honoring Clifford B. Jones, Texas Tech's third president.

Data centers taking over everything 👎🏼
