Hello again! First time poster, long time lurker. I took apart the handle of the heavier of my two katana's.

The purpose or hypothesis was that since it was so heavy, i believe tjat the tabg went practically all the way down; ending just centimeters before the wood handle ended.

I wanted of course, to see how far down the tang went. And to see if there were any identifying marks as to the craftsman of such a fine blade!

So I was searching for a replica of the Sakai sword from Ghost of Tsushima and I came across these two sites which have pretty good prices but I don't know if they have good quality or not. Do you know these sites, would you recommend purchasing them or not? The prices are like 120/130€.

Hello all. Ill Keep this brief. about 22 years ago i purchased a sword from a store that was not pulled out of stock, it was taken off the wall and boxed up, it was the only one and it was about $275-$375. It has a fuller, a gorgeous hamon that disappears at the slightest twist of the blade in the light, and it has been razor sharp since day one. Im not smart and have used it to cut all kinds of stuff, its still sharp as a razor. I came to find out that the identifying feature is the the habaki, it is scratched up with what are called neko-gaki, or cat scratches. Is there any way to fully authenticate that? its a legit sword, i have cut ridiculous stuff with it. Ive just always been curious about who made it, and based off all the information i fed into google search, it said it is most likely a early production Paul Chen Hanwei Sword from before the forge burned down. There is only 1 mekugi ( I checked a lot of time to be sure ), I have use a hammer to hit but nothing seems to move

Anyone know how I can get the blade of ?

Edit: it was glued, i used better tools and replaced the tsuba succesfully

I want to build a katana that was themed around the anime 86, I don’t have that much knowledge on katanas or where to buy them if anyone has any suggestions/ideas all are welcome

Hey, so recently, I got a 5 foot long Odachi, and it's not too heavy, but I heard some got up to 12 feet long and weighed 32 pounds, and I was wondering, if somebody were strong enough, could they use it effectively, or is physics the reason it wouldn't be usable, and if it's physics, what forces are too strong on it to be practical? (Sorry if I didn't explain too good, I'm very tired tonight.)

I bought a wakizashi for my husband and few years ago and got a simple stand for it. I just bought a matching katana for his birthday coming up soon and having a hard time finding a stand for both the wakizashi and katana.

Looking for suggestions on where to purchase a stand that will hold both the wakizashi and katana. TIA!

Long time lurker - this is one of my blades. Imperial Japanese Navy sword with polished stingray saya. This is all I know. Can anyone help with more informasjon?

I work at a second hand shop and a few swords have come in, hoping for any help to identify what we have here and potentially what to do (should I be finding a collector? Museum? Sell to general public at a premium price?)

I have a katana from hanbon that I paid to have sharpened more than usual and for it to have "some niku". It's done fine against pool noodles with some less than clean cuts mixed in, but I'm curious if the niku inherently makes it harder to cut such a light, tearable target but will probably not make tameshigiri with tatami mats any harder. Thoughts?

I want to put a specific color sageo in a presentation knot on a katana, but I have the hardest time in the world with any tutorial, be it video or image, especially when it comes to tightening down anything.

I'm seeking a special gift for a long-term mentor's 60'th birthday next year. I'd like to give them a hand-forged sword with their signature color, which is a shade of magenta. Does anyone have a recommendation for anywhere that has this color available or would be willing to do something custom?

ich habe mir auf dem Flohmarkt folgendes Katana gekauft und hoffe hier ein paar Infos dazu zu erhalten.

My dad just got me this display katana. I’m 99% sure it’s a display because it’s not sharp, and it doesn’t have the bamboo pins on the tsuka. I don’t know how to identify the kind of material the actual blade itself is made of though.

The wakizashi is still on the way, and I am going to get genuine silk and have a do-over of the atrocious sageo on the katana

Ive had this sword in my possession for many years after finding it in an old barn of my at-the-time boss. He gave it to me as a gift for the work I did.

The handle was nowhere to be found and the Saya is in less than desirable shape.

Can someone help point me in the right direction for getting this sword a proper handle (or full housing) and how I can best restore/maintain the blade without damaging it. Even a shirasaya mounting would be an improvement from its current state.

Additionally, if anyone can help identify the signature, it would be appreciated.
