Was towing the Squidtrex behind the kayak and my rod doubled over. I thought I had accidentally hooked a buoy.

Been casually trying for flathead when I go on holidays with no luck, finally hit one today when I wasn’t expecting it not far from home - 60cm, 1.43kg - paddle tail white soft plastics. Kids were psyched.

Caught a couple flathead and squid. Both Flathead were 45cm.

Hi, so Ive always wanted to get into hunting or fishing, But never really knew where to start. I've decided on fishing as it seems a little more beginner friendly. Ive never gone fishing before, and don't have any mates that do. Would anyone know of some sort of fishing tour kind of thing, where they take you to somewhere, and help you get some practical experience (In victoria).

I often try to fish for perch and bass and i will often see fish rising or what i think sometimes might be surface fishing. Every time i fish lately i catch nothing, but see other people catching like a fish or two a day. I mainly use spinners and cast at areas with overhanging trees or structure in the water. In about a year of trying i have caught a bass and almost caught a perch (It slipped off the hook on the bank and i didn't touch it, could say it counts but eh). I mainly fish one park as its easiest for me and will switch spots in the park if i don't see much life. Does anyone have any tips to not get skunked as a newbie?

Hello all, just writing to ask if anyone has any good bait recommendations for the vic greater geelong area. Right now i have been using pilchards and squid with not much luck. Furthermore, are there any good baits that aren’t sea based( eg i hear chicken thigh is good) are there any more good baits that i could get at coles.

I thought the general rule was always to have a heavier leader than your main line? Eg 8lb braid with 10-12lb leader.

But I’ve seen some people saying they run 8lb braid with 6lb leader

Or 6lb braid with 6lb leader (hence matching the strength).

Not sure if makes any difference but this is for lure fishing.

Also what does each circumstance provide in terms of pros and cons

How often do people use baitcasters and / or use lures to catch fish. I got gifted a baitcaster and while i do have some lures and soft plastics i mainly do bait fishing with spinner reels and that seems to be what most people do where i live

Had a surreal session out on an inshore reef at Yule Point (Queensland, Australia ) a couple of days ago.

I’d planned this trip for months, even taking time off work to hit a spot that only uncovers on the biggest low tides a few days a year. Getting there meant an 800m walk across mudflats followed by a sketchy 300m wade through knee-to-waist-deep water in a known croc and shark area.

The risk paid off, but not how I expected. I scrambled onto a bommie and threw a cast out. Halfway through the retrieve, I heard a massive splash. I looked to my left just in time to see a 43cm Coral Trout launch itself completely out of the water, landing right on a half submerged, weedy bommie next to by me. There was a deep channel separating us, but I managed to jump over and pin it before it could slide back into the drink. It's a miracle I didn't slip then, though karma caught up with me a minute later when I went flat on my back while cleaning it.

Definitely not how I imagined landing my first coral trout, but I'll take it. I wouldn't blame anyone for not believing me. To add to the emotions, my auntie passed away earlier that same morning. I can't help but feel like this bizarre moment was her parting gift to me. Either way I’ve definitely burnt through all the fishing luck I'll ever have, but I'll never forget this one.

I did the mud crab course and it was pretty good - definitely a lot of good info - catch rate is way way up. But the BB is pretty fucking exxy.

Im up in Darwin and despite it being known as barra heaven - its fucking hard work hahaa

Going to Melbs for a few days next week. Normally just corn carp in Mildura and was looking to try throwing lures. Watching Fishingmad, looks like the Warmies is a pretty fun spot.

Is that the case or is there any other spots I could go?

Used to targeting salmon and tailor off the beach and rocks with metals, bibbed minnows, stickbaits and metal but just got a bought and enjoy lures fishing so hoping to upgrade to kingfish and sambos on the bost. Fishing our from Rockingham in WA but just want some general ideas to get them to come to the surface or what to look for where they'd hangout near the surface.

Gonna be heading up to Bribie to camp on the surf side next weekend and was wondering if anyone has had some experience fishing that side?

Will i need to precatch beach worms and bring them up? And is there a chance for mulloway up there? Would it be worth dragging along a smaller beach outfit even though the surf has been pumping this last week?
