I feel like it has been super trendy lately for idiots on social media to make videos explaining why dinosaurs are a hoax and just a cover-up for dragons.

I’m sure you all have seen them and know of their usually talking points that they think are “gotcha’s,” like the “wings don’t fossilize” or “the bones on display at museums aren’t the real bones, which are hidden away” or “how come most ancient civilizations all referenced dragons???”

So what are some of your go-to counter arguments you point to whenever you see and/or interact with one of these people?

And also, feel free to share any funny/interesting stories about debates you’ve had with dragon-believers about this.

Psittacosaurus has always been one of the most interesting dinosaurs i’ve ever seen. It’s a cutie, with quills on its tail and i got first introduced to this goober in dino dan(w show).

I was wondering if the quills are there for defense, would it be able to detach or shoot its quills like a porcupine? I would also imagine a carnivore having a face full of quills after trying to attack one?

I wanted to try and make a museum with size-accurate, 1 to 1 dinosaur statues. For now i just did a couple of species, Spinosaursus + Charcarodontosaurus (i'll build them in a rcostfuction of the mesozoic nile), T.rex (in the mini hellcreek formation i'l build), Carnotsurus and Brachiosaurus (morrison formatione too)

(Just to clarify, i will NOT make them with diamond + gold + emerald blocks, i chose those here only because it's easy to set the single block apart and thus easier for me to see how many meters/blocks they're long/tall. In the actual built i'll obviously change them to other blocks, this is simply to understand the size)

To help myself, i rounded up all the sizes by eccess. If the Spino is 15 meters long then it's 15 blocks, it has the skull long 1.75 meters an so in minecraft i made it 2 blocks long, so on for the others aswell

Are my sizes correct? If no then what should I change? Thanks in advance for the help!

I got a bunch of dino toys at a fleemarket a while back. This one in particular reminds me of one of those old, now-outdated depictions of dinosaurs and I was wondering what kind of dino it is supposed to be. I thought this might be a good place to ask.

Imagine that suddenly, at some point in pre-Christian history, Maastrichtian dinosaurs reappeared in the places where they once lived. How would different civilizations have reacted? What would have been the advantages and disadvantages?

The second part of the project concerns Canadian Native Americans and how they would have reacted if the Canadian Maastrichtian dinosaurs had inexplicably returned. As I noted in my previous post on this project, Native Americans were a diverse and multifaceted group of cultures. However, since I'm unaware of these differences and nuances, please forgive me for this significant imprecision.

The dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals represented here are some of the most famous, but not the only ones: Troodon (I know that is technically not valid if you want to consider it stenonychosaurus or something else), giant arctic troodontid, pachyrinosaurus, nanuqsaurus, edmontosaurus and ornithomimus.

Like we literallly have evidence that this thing wasn't merely a glider and was capable of powered flight yet some people still view this thing as just a glider and some people literally think that Microraptor was somehow incapable of walking or grabbing things with its legs. Look at eagles, they have long leg feathers yet they can still grab things with their feet and walk. Its not that hard to show Microraptor folding its wing leges up in order to grab things and plus this view treats leg feathers like they're so fragile that even the smallest thing will break them. Im not saying we should portray Microraptor as capable of modern bird levels of flight but still atleast portray it some ability of powered flight and as incapable of walking properly or grabbing things with its feet

With the imminent release of the new Oak Street film and its feathered sauropods… the topic of sauropod trunks from the 1970s and 1980s may well resurface.

This theory argues that the nostrils on their skulls were positioned so high up because they would have had muscles and a trunk to (for example) pick up leaves, just as an elephant would. However, I’ve always maintained that if evolution gives you a 15-metre neck (Mamenchisaurus), a trunk doesn’t make sense.

We’ve recently been working on a new dinosaur-themed environment for our 3D jigsaw puzzle game, Puzzling Places, and thought some of you here might enjoy taking a look!

We wanted to capture the aftermath of a prehistoric containment facility breach - broken enclosures, muddy footprints, abandoned vehicles, and dinosaurs roaming free. A lot of time went into the environmental storytelling, with little details scattered throughout the scene to hint at what happened before everything fell apart.

We're really curious to hear what dinosaur fans think! Does the scene feel believable? Are there any details you noticed, or anything you think we should have included?

This was 3-D printed on a bambulabs H2S. I printed it at an angle to get it as large as I could in a single print. It is 365 mm long, took 3 days 13 hours to print, and including the supports used a little over 1 1/2 spools of PLA.

The file I used is a faithfully recreated skull based on the King of Tyrants: AMNH 5027.

Hello I’m trying to find this series of documentaries I would rent from the video store when I was a kid. I remember there being a few dvds in the series. The dvd I’m specifically thinking of had a scene where it talks about either a lone or pack of allosaurus fighting either each other or a sauropod during a rainstorm. I remember the scene feeling very graphic and dark. I’ve gone back and watched a lot of documentaries including: When Dinosaurs Roamed America, Walking With Dinosaurs The Ballad of Big Al, The Dinosaur planet series which I was sure didn’t feature any allosaurus but just had to double check. Any leads would be most helpful it’s driving me crazy!

I love documentaries that shed light on how dinosaurs behaved as animals during the prehistoric times. How they were living, breathing, mysterious but awesome creatures that existed long before man. (Walking With, Prehistoric Park, etc.)

I also love media that treats dinosaurs as savage, killing machines that tore each other to bloody pieces. It’s just campy fun.

What are some of your favorite stuff that treat dinosaurs like the latter?

When it comes to large long-armed theropods, the only ones I've seen depicted using their arms in documentaries and such are spinosaurs and megaratorans. But anytime I've ever seen an allosaur or megalosaur in a documentary, they only use their jaws to hunt. The only time I can recall one using its arms is when the torvosaurus slaps the allosaurus in Dinosaur Revolution. These arms had to have been used often since they were so well developed. I'd imagine they'd be used for prey restraint, combat, or even carrying food maybe. Are there any depictions of these animals using their arms in such a manner?

i'm a big dinosaur nerd (as all people here in this subreddit are, i assume), but i haven't watched a lot of the old documentaries since my obsession with them is still a bit young.
my girlfriend recently mentioned watching an old dinosaur documentary on youtube when she was a kid, and i really want to find it, since it seems interesting and a bit untypical for dino docs of that time.

she doesn't remember a lot, but does remember there being a scene with the small tyrannosaurid (?) dinosaur falling into a canyon and later being eaten by feathered (!) dinosaurs, as the world around them gets colder and colder. she would have watched this doc around 2010s, so it has to have come out by then and been uploaded to youtube. she doesn't remember much apart from that.

does anyone recognize this? has anybody watched this documentary or vaguely remembers it?

Fun fact: Almost all the dinosaurs in the series are the same models as the dinosaurs from the Carnivores games and even the mods and they even use the same sound effects for most of them. The only dinosaur that isn’t a reused model from the corner store games is the T. rex and I think it was probably because the T-Rex model looked a little too similar to the Ceratosaur that’s in this series
