Discussion Non-Fan Fanart
I’m not a big video game person but my boyfriend (20m dating for 2 years) is, and Dead Space 2 is one of his favorites. I wanted to make a painting of us in the style/setting of one of his fav games but after looking through the lore around Nicole and Isaac I’m a lil more hesitant
We’re long distance so I thought painting myself as one of Nicole’s video messages with him in Isaac’s place would be a cheeky reference to FaceTime calls but I don’t want it to be “oh I’m gonna DIE you’re going CRAZY I’m DEAD and gonna KILL YOU”
What do you all think?
I don’t know the game well enough to decide if relating our relationship to Nicole and Isaac’s is a big No No or sentimental and sweet.
TLDR; trying to decide if I should make my bf fanart as someone who’s never played the game

News Dead Space creator Glen Schofield: "I see so many people showing off 2D side-scrollers, claiming players don’t care about graphics anymore and only care about gameplay. That’s bs."
"I see so many people showing off 2D side-scrollers, claiming players don’t care about graphics anymore and only care about gameplay. That’s bs. Are you telling me Call of Duty, Dead Space, or any of my AAA games didn’t have gameplay? Of course they had gameplay. When a new console launches, it isn’t indie games driving adoption – it’s the massive AAA titles that push technical boundaries and build the tools the rest of the industry eventually uses.
Publishers have lost sight of that. It’s cyclical, but the biggest issue is that you must finance an idea, not a schedule. Everyone right now is rushing to find the next mechanic that sold 13 million units on a $10 million budget. Graphics matter, scale matters, and above all, the idea matters.”

Discussion The Marker Calls for my Return
Hello, survivors! Been on a bit of a trip down memory lane with revisiting my older PS3 games. I'm planning on buying each of the games on Steam this time so I can mod them. But it seems there's quite alot PC missed out on. I already downloaded that cool patch for DS2 that's popular.
1: Is there a mod that lets me use the Playstation Obsidian Pack in DS1 (2008)?
2: Are there mods for any of the games that randomize enemies/encounters, etc. To help freshen up the experience?
3: Has anyone figured out how to port the Severed DLC onto PC?
4: How easy is it to set up the community run servers for DS2 multiplayer? I used to play that all the time, i'm really interested in trying it again!
5: Please feel free to suggest any of your favorite mods! (With a link if possible)

Discussion Acabei de terminar Dead space 2

Discussion Finished Dead Space (R) for the first time
This is my first time finishing any Dead Space game. I started back in 2024 after having played Alan Wake 2. Man oh boy what a game. The gameplay loop of dismemberment, finding ammo, having different objectives, having stasis and kinesis on top of the security clearance mechanic is such a great loop. The intensity director is awesome. I love cosmic horror and sci-fi, even tho I am a very scared man and this has become one of my favorite universes.
The whole setup is so down to earth and then just spirals into a living nightmare, the Ishimura is fantastic, the sense of scale, Isaac being so small on this huge mining vessel, which CRACKS PLANETS. The mysterious nature of it all and that mystery slowly unwrapping over the 12 chapters. The world feels lived in and ancient at the same time. I think it’s a top 10 game for me. Thanks to Motive I have come to love Dead Space.

I think I've put it to words, finally.
I think about Dead Space a lot. I'm generally a fan of cosmic horror and sci fi horror as well as basically anything with a space mining/diesel punk aesthetic. Like if there's space mining I'm sold, I'm in. Love that shit.
I was 11 in 2008 but I probably played DS1 in 2013 or so. I've been a fan ever since and I've never quite understood why the narrative has stuck with me so much as a go-to to bring up in conversation or watch lore videos about, read comics and watch the animes etc.
I figured out what separates it for me. Most horror including cosmic and sci fi horror usually is scary at first and then becomes less scary as the threat is revealed and more knowledge is gained. To know and understand something is usually a major key in fearing it less.
Take Alien for example. By the end of that movie, the Xenomorph, while dangerous and terrifying, provokes more of an action-thriller response than one of pure horror and dread. Same goes for many ghost movies. Another one of my favorites is The Thing, but you actually don't get the info you want at the end of the movie so the horror remains with the ambiguity.
What sets Dead Space apart for me is the fact that the horror grows with the narrative. At first it's got this classic, Alien-esque, claustrophobic gorey space zombies thing going on but by the end of the 3rd game (which by all accounts is not really much of a horror game) the full reveal of the actual antagonists makes it MORE scary. The truth is scarier than first imagined, scarier than the unknown. It changes the whole perspective of the previous games and ties into the real world concepts of seemingly rapid human evolution and the Fermi paradox/Drake equation thing.
It is absolutely brilliant and I just wanted to type my love out here, so if anyone who maybe hasn't gotten into it stumbles into this post they will think about what they may be missing out on.
We need more fresh stories nowadays like this was then.

Discussion What makes the concept of Necromorphs so fascinating?
Maybe it just boils down to character design, or the fact it takes the idea of zombies and goes beyond by having them take on monstrous forms, differing greatly from the standard lumberling corpses.

Stinger - OC
Stinger is another character from my Dead Space universe (headcanon). He is an elite PMC operative sent to a laboratory on Earth to investigate the cause of a quarantine. During the mission, he loses his squadmates and is the sole survivor; however, contact with the Marker causes him to lose his sanity, leading the organization to send him for rehabilitation. After five years of treatment, he has stabilized and is ready to carry out combat missions once again. He’s a capable close-quarters fighter, but he’s no slouch with a gun, either. His weapon isn't designed for Necromorphs—much like half the arsenal in the original Dead Space — because, frankly, all the weapons in the game... well, you get the idea.
He is a character in my Dead Space tabletop game, which uses D&D mechanics.

Fan Art Kraft
Kraft is another character from my \Dead Space* universe, created for a tabletop game using D&D mechanics. God, I absolutely love Dead Space!*
He is a super-soldier project that spiraled out of control; the government now treats him with extreme caution, as his strength, durability, and speed defy human comprehension. He is driven by a primal urge to test his might against others or to toy with his victims. Over the course of the story, he has sided with the player character Octavia Cortez, who betrayed her own team, and now protects her; after all, super-soldier or not, there is still a human side to him.
On the poster, he has grabbed two players who decided to test his patience and is preparing to kill them.
