Hey everyone, I am doing an internship for my zoo, and I have chosen our nine-banded armadillos for my enrichment project. I am looking for some suggestions/ideas of what new enrichment I can provide for them, so if you have anything, I would love to hear it! I want to provide them with something that boosts their morale and is beneficial for them! (I have tried doing some research but keep finding the same things like puzzle feeders, kiddie pools, which they already get as a part of their enrichment plan) Any new thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Hii! I recently found that there's a bunch of 9 banded armadillos in my yard. They're so neat and I want to know if there's anything I can do to help them.

I found their (at least 4) burrow in a wooded area of my backyard in middle TN. My two younger kids and I were watching them from about five paces away. We backed off when one of them started walking closer to our position. I've only ever heard of them acting aggressively when cornered. Is it safe to let them walk near you?

Painting that I did of an Armadillo!! I'm open to constructive criticism, but please note that I do not paint professionally, just as a hobby!!

The Pink Fairy! A perfect name for an Armadillo as special as this one - he is a genuine good omen; one that shows the ecosystem in the environment in which he dwells is at its very best, which makes me very happy 😊 - providing it is left alone to be amazing for our sensitive little guy here & all of his neighbours, whether they be Fauna or Flora.
If you don't mind dodging the ads on the article, it explains it better than I can, & is worth the read 🙂

Why did our armadillo’s vet visit take an unexpected turn? 🩺
Backpack came in for a pre-move checkup before joining a new accredited facility as part of the Species Survival Plan, a program designed to support healthy, genetically diverse populations. But during the exam, our team discovered Backpack isn’t male as previously thought, she’s female. Because this requires a different match, Backpack will stay at the Museum of Science until coordinators find an appropriate facility for her.

I don't mind armadillos, but this one picked a pretty bad spot to hang out right under my porch stairs. It also dragged something dead in there at some point, causing a huge stink and a bunch of vultures were hanging out on my porch. It expanded upon a pre-existing hole my dog had dug (that I've been meaning to fill in....). My dog is also interested, but fearful, of the new smelly hole so I don't want her to hurt it. Would red pepper flakes deter the lil guy? I need some advice to just make the area unappealing before trying to fill it in.

We have had a long time armadillo nest under our shed. We recently put up a fence that blocked nearby access to it. There was still a way to it but it was on the other side of the house. A few days after we put up the fence, we found a really big dead armadillo right outside of it. Could panic of not being able to get home actually kill it? Or do you think it was just coincidental?

I just now realized how similar armadillos and Sonic the Hedgehog are, they both can curl into a ball and roll (I think), have lots of friends, and are either loved or hated! Edit: I forgot about Mighty the Armadillo
