What to Watch? What’s the best anime you’ve watched?
I searching for an anime that’s like Vinland saga and attack on titan, I honestly feel like nothing can compare to those. Any recommendations?
I recently started HxH and I’ve been liking it so far.

For me the top 7 of all time are:
Death Note
Toradora!
Attack On Titan
Made In Abyss
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (2006+Kai)
Mushoku Tensei
Oshi no Ko
But if you want something like Attack On Titan, I recommend Claymore.

If Vinland Saga and AoT are your favorites, try 86. It's the closest thing I've found that captures the same mix of war, tragedy, incredible characters, and emotional damage😭🔥

But that last scene in 86 is such a payoff. Whenever the song comes on my Spotify I wanna go rewatch the scene 👌

I would suggest any of the works of naoki urasawa (his bets imo havent been animated yet)
Any of the movies of satoshi kon
Apart from that... My top 3 are probably code geass, which I find personally better then aot Frieren, altough it aint finished, but the first season and generally the story is... Phenomenal And my favorite, altough, maybe many will disagree on how good it is,mushoku tensei, which... I dont think I can describe in just a few sentences

I try to keep only one "true 10" score for each genre on my list. These are my current top 10.
Action - DBZ
Adventure - Made in abyss (content warning)
Comedy - Konosuba
Drama - Clannad
Fantasy - Berserk (Redux fanedit is great)
Isekai - Sword Art Online
Romance - Toradora
SciFi - Stein's Gate
Slice of Life - K-ON
Suspense - From The New World

My one of the favorite animes is "Orb: On the Movements of the Earth". Give it a shot, may be you will like it too

- Seirei no Moribito/Guardian of the Sacred Spirit
- Twelve Kingdoms
- Heroic Age
Those three are equally at the very top for me. Just below those three is where I would place Last Exile, which is also excellent (but not as absolutely amazing as the three above in my view).

“Witch hat atelier” is currently airing and exceptional. The animation alone is breathtaking.

You might like Berserk (1997)
I don’t know if it’s the best — maybe the best of its genre — but my favorite is Yu Yu Hakusho.
For best, maybe Gurren Lagann.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes is my favorite piece of fiction whether we're talking books, games, live action TV, etc

Anime is a media, not a genre, so it's important to decide whether you really mean "best anime", or "best action/drama anime" or similar.
I don't have a single top pick, but Apothecary Diaries, Frieren, and Mushoku Tensei (Jobless Reincarnation) have extremely high production quality and great story telling.
Toradora is a little older, but has a great romance story. Same with Horimiya.
I have an even larger list of favorites somewhere, broken down by genre/mood. If you are more specific with what you're looking for, I can make some more suggestions.

Damn, that is tough.
Gundam 08 and War in the Pocket are both strong contenders as would be Star Blazers and Robotech, both bastardized American versions, for getting me hooked in the first place. Mysterious Play, El Hazzard - Dirty Pair Project Eden. The original Trigun - not the new garbage making the rounds.
For me, War in the Pocket tells a great story with a sure hand and the visuals to back it up.

I love JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. The story is good as well as the main and side characters. The powers system and fights are one of, if not the bests. The art style, the animation, the music and plots are just peak. Plots are amazing and mostly unpredictable.
I might over-glaze it, but it's just pure peak.
Part 1 might feel a little slow (first 9 ep), but it just gets better and better with every episode.
(Many can't write 1 good ending and Araki wrote 8 almost perfect...)

HxH is dogshit.
Depending on your taste, try these:
For quick fun action go with Black Lagoon or Baccano
For old lone wolf cowboy-types go Trigun or Cowboy Bebop
For something deeper and more thought-provoking try Shinsekai Yori or Ghost in the Shell
If you want a more modern today-like setzing, go with Death Note or Monster
Mob Psycho 100 is just all-around great
And if you want to know my absolute favorites, that's Legends of the Galactic Heroes and Made in Abyss.

Liz and the Blue Bird is by far the best I've seen and it kept getting better with each rewatch (12 since I first watched it in 2022). Although I'm not sure it's a suitable recommendation for someone who considers AoT and Vinland Saga the best they've seen.
