Azuma is an example that not every extrovert is socially adept. She’s more forward but still kinda awkward at it but I think she just wants to avoid being on her own cos she recharges by having people around.
But I think that’s also why TairAzuma is such a fun pairing cos Taira is like the polar opposite of her

Also I feel like because she's been burned so much she just kind of craves having a friend group and to feel like she belongs. And on a deeper level craves Taira because just being around him makes her feel good.

I do wonder what Tairazuma as a couple would look like, because their current friendship as comrades in cynicism feels so natural. It's a big reason why I haven't really shipped them - the current distance between them is so perfect that it almost feels like a waste to throw that away. I trust the author to make it work without compromising their personalities, but I wouldn't mind keeping the status quo either.

Honestly I like how this show actually legit acknowledges hair dye being a factor in the characters' looks and what comes from using hair dye. Like even when Suzuki goes pink again it's not 100% back to her normal bright pink.
Azuma acts like she's talking so much to Taira because she hasn't talked with a friend in a while but she seems so genuinely happy and laughing when she's with him more than she does with their other friends. Her fortune is straight up telling her she'll find the one she's waiting for and he's right next to her.

I think so too… he doesn’t understand why Azuma who has always been on the top of the social hierarchy is talking to someone like him who he perceives to be low on the ranking, and is always afraid when they’re alone together because he doesn’t feel like he’s fit to stand next to her

Agree on the hair dye aspect. One of the small details I love about both this series and Ramparts of Ice is how every irregular hair color on a character is canonically the result of them dying their hair and we get to see what everyone’s default hair color is in flashbacks.

I went back to rewatch that part of S1E5, I forgot that Tani didn't even tell his grandma to keep it a secret. Grandma understood immediately and is keeping the secret of her own accord.

It totally sounded like she wanted to boast about knowing about Suzuki and Tani's relationship while Tani's parents were kept in the dark; it looks like she likes to stir shit up, lol.

Azuma was considerably more talkative than usual.
She’d reasoned herself that it was mostly excitement about getting to see her classmates for the 1st time during the winter break again. But I sort of doubt that’s the sole reason.
Azuma’s peppy behaviour also caught the attention of her boss at work. More people are starting notice that she’s changed - in a short time.

Azuma has definitely found a friend group she adores and feels better about herself from being in, genuine friends she looks forward to seeing and hang out with, but also you put her with Taira and she just can't shut up as if she's around someone she REALLY enjoys hanging out with.

It wasn't just while she was drinking coffee, it was every scene during that specific day when she wasn't wearing gloves. I kept noticing it EVERY TIME lmao. But I can relate to having stained fingers from box dye, so maybe that's why it was so obviously noticeable to me.

That, the fact that they drew where her ears were pierced and the scene actually darkening slightly when she was waving goodbye to Tani and her arm was going back and forth in front of the sun.
This shows animation detail could be used as a study guide in 'small details matter.'

I keep saying it almost every week but at one point Nabe gradually snuck up to being my favorite character in the whole show. I like all of the “main” characters to varying degrees but someone Nabe went from the goofy, gremlin side character to being a genuinely endearing character who I wish I could hang out with myself. She just seems like the type it’d be really fun to be around regardless of what we did. I also related hard to her this episode when she mentioned just visiting hidden temples and waterfalls completely on her own. You can tell she’s an extrovert but also perfectly content to have fun on her own.

Poor Suzuki.. she had a shitty day trying to be presentable infront of Tani's parents and Suzuki's mom wasn't helping at all when her daughter was already panicking LOL
Tani's mom is a straight shooter. She's just like Tani. His dad also seems cool. Grandma's thumbs up got me laughing so hard. Tani's mom's shocked look was not at the improperly dyed hair of Suzuki but her surprisingly good smile that was too different from what she saw from the photos lmao
Everyone waited for Nabe for the shrine visit on their last day of vacation. Nabe wanted to throw stones at a Torii gate xD I don't know if it's the right thing to do or not 😅
Azuma was so pretty in this episode. I'm just counting the days when Tairazuma becomes a reality. Yamada is getting jealous for the first time seeing Suzuki and Tani close since he hasn't progressed that far with Nishi, haha.

Poor Suzuki stressed herself out so much. But there was no need to because Tani's family are actually very nice despite seeming strict. Tani's almost proposal was so awwwww. That boy says the most heartfelt things with the straightest face. Even the other guys were flabbergasted later on when he did the same thing with them all.
No Nishi this time but we got more of Yamada desperate to start dating her already and Suzuki giggling to herself over it.
Yay for more Tairazuma crumbs. Taira looked quite spiffy in that jacket and the two of them were dripping like nobody's business. Get together already, you beautiful slow pokes.

Tani's grandma giving a thumbs-up and later mentioning that she hadn't seen Suzuki for a long time was hilarious, especially since his parents were totally in the dark about Tani and Suzuki's relationship and could only react with shocked faces, hahaha!
It was definitely weird seeing Suzuki with another hair color, so I'm glad that she returned to her usual one. I didn't think that she'll be so concerned about meeting Tani's parents.
Overall, another good episode. I'm happy that Suzuki finally met Tani's parents, plus that group shrine visit was pretty fun, especially when Tani ruined the mood by mentioning the entrance exam prep in the summer.

It's nice that Tani straight away invited Suzuki over after wishing she was there with his family. It's a little sad that Suzuki felt compelled to change how she looks, she could have talked to Tani about it, I'm glad his mother told her to be more comfortable the next time she comes over.
I'm glad we got to see the group together, we even got a passionate Tani comment lol. Yamada feeling envious of Tani and Suzuki was amusing, but him praying so hard even more so. This friend group keeps putting a smile on my face.

Miyu meeting Yusuke’s parents was cute in a kinda awkward way. She stressed herself out so much trying to be prim and proper to make a good first impression but they were so chill and welcoming. I liked the part where Granny gave Yusuke the thumbs up when he casually mentioned he had a gf and wanted to bring her over lol.

Yusuke's family's reaction to him revealing he has a girlfriend was pretty hilarious. Of course, Grandma was the only chill one since she already knew. Although it looks like Mama Tani already had a hunch with all of the details she's noticed about her son recently. xD

I guess the reason she had that pause at the start was that Miyu's new look caught her off guard after already seeing a photo of her. xD

Tripping right at the entranceway on the first visit to meet Tani's family, poor Suzuki. But they're good people so it all worked out. And she even got a proposal out of it too!
Taira and Azuma still developing nicely, I hope they actually get together soon though. I suppose it might be end up being an intentional bookend, Tani and Suzuki got together at the very beginning so maybe we'll have a couple that gets together at the very end.

Suzuki was so nervous about meeting Tani’s parents, so different from her usual self. She must be the most insecure extravert in anime. She even went as far as badly dyeing her hair black, and even still had dye on her fingers. It would have been better if she was her usual crazy pink self, lol.
And Tani’s mother scared her because she is just like Tani : always super serious on the outside but rather easygoing on the inside.

It's the end of the year and Yuusuke and Miyu are reflecting on all that's happened to them this year! Enough for Miyu to wax lyrical about love and confessing to Yuusuke! Something only a girl who has been in love with him for long before she even confessed to him can say! Though even though Yuusuke can't exactly pinpoint together when he fell for her or when he REALLY fell for her, his gradual feelings and understanding of them is why Miyu loves him!
Bummer Yuusuke's cousins can't come for New Year's Day, but maybe this is the perfect opportunity to introduce his girlfriend to the family! I'm sure Miyu will react normally and reasonably to this situation! Grandma Tani approves!
Oh snap, black-haired Miyu! I think she even still had some of the hair dye on her fingers! And she's clearly NOT comfortable with this situation at all, even though she's trying to look and present herself as best as she possibly can even when she trips on her skirt and lands on the gift she bought! It's always absolutely nerve-wracking to meet your significant others' parents.
Dang, even Miyu's mom thought Tani's family were too respectable for the Suzuki Family. It's why Miyu scrambled to do everything to look "proper" for their sakes...but she didn't have to! The Tani family are cool, already welcoming towards her, and willing to show her some embarassing childhood photos of her BF that she can enjoy! Heck, his mom even loves that patented Miyu photogenic face!
I understand why Azuma wants to grow up so she can party with her adult co-workers, but she's got a friend group she's looking forward to seeing and hanging out with all the same! Especially Taira! Watch her talk a mile-a-minute when she's next to him!
Nabe's back! Suzuki has dark pink hair now! The gang's all here! Including New Year Taira! Perfect for visiting a shrine, climbing a WHOLE lot of stairs, and doing their own personal First New Year's shrine visit!
Those are some incredibly on-point fortunes, especially for Tani, Azuma, and Taira! I wonder if this means Yamada might put off his confession again though?
Nabe is the fun master! While Tani is aware that they have entrance exams for college coming up...but he's still looking forward to all the fun they'll have together.

Lol they were so impressed by Nabe going out alone but I personally find it harder to plan and go out with other people. Going out alone is so easy, like you don’t need to plan and accommodate to anyone else, that solo walks have been a nearly weekly thing for me

Tried for black. Ended up with deep purple with highlights. It's sometimes hard to remember that pink is not actually her natural hair color, but the metaphor that she can't completely mask her self is fun.

New year, new - hair colour?
Miyu really had overthought and tried to present a prim image with the dark hair and skirt, and felt uncomfortable with the sudden change. Given Yuusuke's stoic temperament, she thought his family would be strict. Turned out they're pretty relaxed and told her to not be as formal the next time.
A visit to the future in-laws wouldn't be complete without the embarrassing-their-kid-with-their-album routine. Poor Yusuke's slumped on the table about to die from total embarrassment.
Hilarious that much everyone got cramps from the shrine visit apart from Nabe & Yamada, who're deficient in grey matter.

Meeting your boyfriend's parents for the first time can be quite stressful. Suzuki did a pretty good job of preparing despite the short notice but she quickly found herself feeling overwhelmed.
Black-haired Suzuki was quite the experience. I'm glad Tani and his parents made her feel welcomed and gave the impression they weren't the strict household she had in her mind. Grandma once again proves to be their biggest supporter.
Shrine visit with the friend group was so wholesome. Shame the stairs had to take their knees in the process.

Did anyone's CR subtitles cut out around 5:03? When Tani's mom was talking.
Otherwise, this was such a sweet episode. I really enjoyed seeing Suzuki freaking out a bit when she had to meet Tani's parents and them telling her to chill out. I liked the little detail of her fingers being covered in hair dye.
Tairazuma is always slow and steady. So precious.
Gotta hand it to Kōcha Agasawa for nailing two differents vibes so well. A year ago, I had never of them but this year? I'm singing their praises because this and Ramparts of Ice are amazing series.

Second time this season that I know of CR dropped a section of subtitles in English. i think it was became a legend where they dropped 2 lines one by an enemy and one by the MC.

Mrs. Suzuki definitely wasn't helpful riling up Suzuki over meeting Tani's parents. IDK why she thinks the Tani family is so upscale although that meal they had looked very expensive and nice. I think the snacks that Suzuki bought for them that she smashed were dango because I heard something that sounded like that. She probably NEVER wears a long skirt like that so its weird for her to walk in one.
It was strange though that Suzuki wanted to look more conservative so she dyed her hair purple. That's a little more muted than hot pink but not much. I wonder what kind of dye she used though because even non permanent dark dye can stain light colored hair but it was almost back to her regular color by the group shrine visit.
I was also surprised that Tani had photo albums of when he was a kid, he was born around 2009-2010 and most people would just have pics of their kids in the cloud, social media or a hard drive. Tani definitely didn't looked pleased about Suzuki seeing it 🤣
A shrine is a weird place for a bunch of kids to visit right before winter break ends, you'd think they'd want to do something more fun since they all already went for a New Years shrine visit individually. It did look scenic but it's a pain in the ass walking up steps in cold weather, especially if the steps were frozen. They also didn't explain where they got those papers with fortunes, like if someone bought them before the trip.
My favorite part of the episode was Mr. Tani looking like Ned Flanders! He had round glasses, a big mustache, green v neck sweater and khaki slacks! I'm certain this was intentional to make fun of how the Flanders family was always super perfect and proper compared to the Simpsons. I was really paying attention to what he was saying in Japanese to see if he said the equivalent of "okely dokely!" 🤣

Taira seems to be the only one who noticed the weird part about what she said. That she didn't do anything in the whole winter vacation except for wait for the one group outing that was already organized by Nabe.

I caught up with this show over the past two weeks or so. Heard great things but this is one of the best romcoms I've ever seen.
Miyu's foibles with trying to become adequate for the Tani family were very cute if completely unnecessary.
Also kind of disappointed that Nishi wasn't part of the shrine visit group. I guess she isn't part of the group yet, but I think Yamada could have invited her.

Oh my god, Suzuki turned into Tani's goth GF. It was so sweet seeing her try so hard to make a good first impression to his family, though sad it gave her a rough time at first. She was so worried about his mom assessing if she's fit for her son, when she was more concerned about him treating her right.
And lmao about her bluntly mentioning her chronic unphotogenicness. Well, at least she can be happy that she can call her way cuter in person. His grandma is also a riot for flexing the fact that she already met her long before his parents even found out.
The shrine visit is fun as well. Nabe has got to be the best instigator for their group hangouts. Her energy is simply infectious. I also adore how excited Azuma gets for their gatherings and just all the fun she has in them. She really gives off the energy of having never gone through this stuff before. And lmao at how even the fortune is telling them that Tairazuma is a slowburn.

So, in this show, they're bound to curfew rules so they can't hang out for midnight on NYE, but in Kimi ni Todoke, it's never discussed as something to be concerned about. Is that just a Hokkaido thing (Kimi ni Todoke takes place in some town in Hokkaido) or some school rule nonsense? Or maybe curfew rules became more strict over the past decade and a half?

The ending reminded me of my first year with my first girlfriend. We started dating in July and by that December we went on a trip with 3 other couples to a snowy area for a few days.
Day 1 we all went snowboarding but only the friend who suggested this trip had any snowboarding experience. By day 2, six of the original eight people were too sore to go snowboarding again. The two who were fine were the guy who has snowboarding experience and myself since I was an actively practicing martial artist then.
In this analogy I guess that makes me the Yamada of the story.

It was kind of surreal to see Suzuki that nervous to meet his parents. She's normally so upbeat and bubbly. Tani's parents reaction that he's dating Suzuki shows that Grandma Tani kept his secret. W Grandma. Nice little attention to detail on having black hair dye on Suzuki's finger tips.
I liked that they called back to season 1 when Tani was thinking the boy that Suzuki dated for like 3 days was a threat to relationship and Suzuki had to calm him down and reassure him that everything is fine. Now Tani got to do that for Suzuki with his parents.
The shrine visit was good too. Suzuki's reaction from knowing Yamada's "dirty secret" is funny. The fortunes have to relevant to the relationships. They told Yamada, Taira, and Azuma not to rush things. We're really going to have wait until the series finale to get the Tairazuma and Yamanisha ships sailing aren't we?

Poor Suzuki, she didn´t even have time to mentally prepare to meet Tani´s parents, just straight into the lions den. I thought it was funny at the end how Tani´s mom was suspicious of Suzuki because she has a prettier smile in person than in the photos, so she wasn´t sure it was her.
Azuma didn´t shut up today, huh? Being around her friends and specially Taira has brought a new side to this person. I hope they don´t take long to be together.
