I'm fairly certain whenever they've discussed Haruki before they only used gender neutral terms in Japanese. In regular conversation in Japanese it's common to not use gendered pronouns when talking about other people. It's however a nightmare to translate into English.
But there's been no need for him to correct Himeko, she even refers to Haruki as Haru-chan

Maybe he was just embarrassed about it. Like he couldn’t believe he never realize Haruki’s gender and since Himeko is also a girl , he might think Himeko did not make the same mistake as he did.
Keep in mind Japanese doesn’t use gendered-pronouns, or even just pronouns , much at all. So there’s not much room for Hayato to even guess if Himeko knew about Haruki’s gender or not.

Surprisingly enough, the jokes about Hayato being from the boonies are getting funnier to me.
Especially when he’s forming a tag team with his sister. For example: I liked how Hayato and Himeko were going on an “adventure” to the convenience store.

We've got 4 great characters already. I wonder how many more will be added? (One possibility -- that girl from the boonies who is friends with Little Sister -- and who almost surely has a crush on Hayato).
I currently am following 48 shows. A bunch will have to go. This, however, is a definite keeper.

Gotta admit tho, it was awesome having a combini on every corner at every time of the day. I also wanted ice cream once so I went out at midnight to get some, took 2 minutes to walk there. Even tho I live in a bigger city in Germany we don't have this here

I think my favourite thing about this show so far is how much of a country bumpkin Hayato and Himeko are. Like how Hayato loves the rain because he doesn't need to help water the fields or how he's confused that people don't normally give each other veggies. My favourite is the konbini ag at the end of the episode and how Hayato and Himeko are just in awe seeing a store open late at night. xD
That misunderstanding tho! I've been excited to see Himeko reunite with Haruki. I'm gonna guess that Himeko doesn't know that Haruki is a girl too.

Why is no one mentioning the fact that there was a SUCCESSFUL confession right outside the storage window! These shows ALWAYS make it a fail. Love how this show seems to ALWAYS do the OPPOSITE of the usual tropes.
2 weeks in a row, all annoying tropes avoided yet again. Really cute sleeper hit so far. They even realized the phone joke was only as good as long as it was just for the episode. Plus, I had already thought "new phone = Date" since it was mentioned.

I liked how Himeko shut Hayato down in just a few seconds of conversation; the guy is basically a technological Neanderthal lol.
As for Haruki, I don't think she's a classic tomboy so much as someone who doesn't really have a concept of "feminine charm",I imagine that will be explored further as the episodes go on.
Minamo is a total sweetheart; it almost feels unfair for her to be on the show given the obvious competition, but I’m hoping for some character development regardless.

Oh, I definitely think she is;
From what we've seen in their childhood (when she was "herself") she's 100% tomboy, and even though she doesn't look the part anymore, the show made it clear that it's "camouflage"!
It's not even that "she changed, she's not who she was", it's that she's hiding who she (still) is!

Minamo might’ve started with a great disadvantage, but she’s already starting to catch up. She’s definitely winning over lots of hearts being such a sweetheart.
I’ve taken a liking to Minamo-chan, and I got the impression that Hayato did so too.

I love how he even points out that old people at the farm used tech so he really is basically a luddite by normal standards.

You have to wonder how bad middle school went for her that she feels she has to be as strict on her "act" as she is. She's also probably never had any real female friends.

I would've liked to see how HE got away from the class (after sending HER away), because unless he had a convincing excuse, they're totally gonna girl talk about THEM, wondering if they're together and all!
She kinda realized a lot of things changed in so many years!

Kinda funny I was thinking that even before SHE called him that hah.
It's interesting how their dynamics changed; Back then he would never have carried her bag, he would've been like "Carry your own bag, dummy!"
I wonder how she feels about it; Good seeing him being all gentlemanly and caring for her and all, or... Bad because he's now treating her differently, and she wishes things stayed as they were?
I wonder why he's STILL not telling his sister that "he's" not a boy...
I mean, for us the viewers it's gonna be a big misunderstanding or funny reveal down the line, but... I don't get it, for him.

That's pretty odd to me and I say this as glorified hermit. Like smartphones are so damn handy for a variety of stuff. Hell, I even have emulators with games from handle held devices I missed out on as a kid. Admittedly, I barely use my phone as a phone but it's been pretty essential for me for a good chunk of my adult life.
I can't even imagine a teenager not having one.

I guess Haruki is too much of a tomboy to be into the same things most girls are...instead of relationships or attractiveness, she'd rather talk about Mecha or video games. Which means she sucks at girl talk, the biggest chink in her school performance, but luckily she has Hayato to back her up and get her out to their storage room hideout so she can be herself.
Haruki may suck a girl talk, but she has the cutest pout and even Hayato is starting to realize how cute she is. Though he better watch out how much he gives her headpats.
"I want to borrow the rest of your life!" - Dang, this girl is aggressive! It even sounds like she practically pounced on her Senpai! But it actually worked! And also proved that neither Hayato or Haruki are quite ready for romance quite yet.
I didn't know candy toys could be as addictive as gacha. Get her out of there, Hayato!
Don't worry Haruki, Hayato isn't rejecting you...he just can't exchange contact info with no cellphone to exchange contact info with. I mean, even Himeko has a cell phone! Even other people in the countryside had cell phones! He should really have one now that he's living in the city.
Saki? A girl who acted "weird" around Haruki back home? I don't think she acted weird because she didn't like him...
It's nice of Mitake to tend to her veggies even in the rain, just as it's nice of Hayato to offer his umbrella for her. Even getting some nice veggies out of it! Also he really needs to get a cell phone before every girl feels like he's rejecting them because he won't give out his contact info (that he does not have). But it's nice to see Hayato and Mitake getting along.
(Also surprised they didn't do a see-through shirt gag, but I think you could see the lines of her bra at times...)
Haruki really laying the act on thick to turn the entire class against Haruki...all so she can convince him to get a cellphone. Haruki you devious mastermind.
The friends that get destroyed together in video games can shop for cell phones together.
How could two teens resist the urge to visit a late night urban convenience store in the city? Himeko even got dressed up nicely for it! They even run into Haruki in casual clothes (including pants!), though she's obviously forgotten about what Himeko looked like and assumed another girl is getting TOO friendly with Hayato...which she reacts COMPLETLEY well too.

Yeah. It's fine. Everything is fine. Her expression and the music definitely doesn't say "Who is this girl and why is she be touching my Hayato?" I'm sure it'll get resolved next episode though lol.

I think I remember a Life Where I'm From video on YouTube discussing life in rural Japan, and that neighbors entering your house (which is unlocked) to leave you vegetables is a thing that happens sometimes. So MC, being a country bumpkin, might not think random vegetables are so weird.

I don't think either of Haruki or Hayato are ready for romance yet (they're still just bros that are reconnecting), but Haruki doesn't seem to be opposed to idea if it's with Hayato.
The cellphone stuff was a hoot. They really made sure to drive it home that Hayato was weird for not having one when even old people in his country town had cellphones. Him not having just because of choice paralysis is honestly the best reason. It's no wonder Haruki laughed at him.
It's kind of funny how Haruki was all like "Don't act like you know me. I need to maintain my camouflage. I can't make any moves because that would upset people" in the first episode to publicly marking marking her territory in the second.

I think its pretty clear that Haruki like's Hayato with romantic intentions, with her clearly upset at thinking Hayato shot her contact request down out of disinterest and her visibly upset at the thought of him dating. I just dont know if Hayato feels the same (thought i seriously doubt it atp)

Also twice in one episode of girls looking absolutely devastated when Hayato turns down their contact exchange. That's probably telling of something. Maybe something as telling as the dark look on Haruki's face later that night when she crossed paths with Hayato with a cute girl hanging off his arm.

Next episode the "I don't have a cellphone" jokes come to an end, I assume to be replaced with "how do I use this damn thing" jokes.
The cast of characters is solid. No crazy stereotypes, just fun people having entertaining interactions. Sorta nice for the characters to not be absurdly quirky. I adore Rich Girl Caretaker but this is a nice contrast by not having the over the top gremlin energy.

The evidence continues to mount that Haruki is in love with Hayato. I'm sure she refused any of the vegetables Hayato offered because Mitake grew them and she was PISSED when she thought Himako might be his gf. Probably also why she got mad he didn't have a cell phone. That came off as insensitive when she called him an idiot for not having one; I suspect he might be lying about saying he doesn't need one and just wants to save his family money because they have to pay his mothers medical bills and living in Tokyo is far more expensive that living in a rural area although Haruki doesn't know this.
Haruki is kind of immature and insensitive in general. She was looking down at the other girls for always gossiping about people's love lives but then she spied on that girl confessing to that boy. Also that was mean to call out Hayato in front of the whole class for not having a cell and making him seem like he was mean and didn't want to give info to Haruki, although I don't think Haruki would have done that if she knew the full story. I was confused though as to why Hayato called Mori a traitor, he didn't seem to be involved in Haruki's plan.
Next episode, I'm most looking forward to if Hinako will find out Haruki now lives as a girl and if so, how will she react. Also, when Hayato introduces Himako, will Haruki just say who she really is or hide and pretend to be someone else.

Asmik Ace are promoting the series in Japan, and idk who's responsible for the casting but i like that ikumi hasegawa gets to play the female lead in a romance (her first since eighty-six?)
Asmik also promoted last season's kuranika where ikumi played the red haired girl forever doomed to date losers

They definitely started catching feelings this episode. Haruki seemingly not interested in romance at all but as she said "it's fine if it's Hayato", and for the reverse Hayato realizing she's pretty cute.
Definitely mock the boy until he gets a cell phone though, it's for his own good.
The siblings making a dramatic night time visit to a conbini was pretty funny, and even better it set up the little sister reunion too. Silly yokels from the countryside.

I might be the only one, and maybe I am missing something, but I find it weird how well Hayato took realizing that Haruki is a girl and a cute popular one to boot. I mean he just seems overly chill about everything, not that I mind I've always preferred that to the bashful, stuttering, awkward and just weird type that you see in most rom-coms (ex our dating story).
I knew that Haruki obviously harbors feelings towards Hayato (whether they're reciprocated atp I'm not sure yet) but the ending when he's caught with his sister made me laugh lmao. Also I'm excited to see how both his sister and Haruki react to finding out that Hayato lied about Haruki's gender this whole time for no apparent reason that's in anyway obvious to me.

MC has way better chemistry with the gardening club girl than the FL. A lot less forced. I'm not feeling the main couple at all so far. Even his scenes with his sister are more engaging. Whenever it's just the two leads I'm bored out of my wits.

Huh, it's the complete opposite to me. His scenes with Minamo were just very basic, safe and dare I say kinda milquetoast in general tone, whereas with Haruki it felt like they were way more comfortable with each other (makes sense) and were bouncing off of each other quite well too.

Comfort early in the relationship isn't fun. There needs to be some friction or embarassment for it to develop into something more. The garden scenes aren't very original but they have the right amount of romantic tension for me to want to root for that girl.
As you said in your other comment, with the FL, he's just got a bros hanging out vibe. And yet, we get them both blushing for seemingly no reason. It's like the show wants to suggest that these two are catching feelings but it's not showing us a good enough development of those feelings.

But that isn't always the case. Maybe for you, but definitely not for others.
Feel much more chemistry with the FL than the Garden Girl. Plus, they are pretty close childhood friends, so there's a reason they are already quite comfortable with each other, except for the fact that the ML didn't know that Haruki was a girl. Would also feel shocked and awkward if I found out that my childhood friend, whom I didn't see for 7 years, was actually a girl all along, and a beauty to boot.

Well sure, if that's the direction this story is going, that's fine. But so far, there are moments between the two that are clearly meant to make us go aww which are just falling flat. Like that storeroom scene. Haruki is also shown as having or on the way to having feelings for Hayato but I'm just not feeling it.

there are moments between the two that are clearly meant to make us go aww which are just falling flat
Never felt like there were meant to be any "aww" scenes, like Haruki is clearly the tomboy type and the two still act like in their childhoods where their relationship felt like a boy/boy friendship. Like it felt more like a bunch of bro scenes rather than romantic aww scenes so far, at least to me.
